Study of Breakthrough Cancer Pain: Assessment of Fentanyl Buccal Tablets Titration and Treatment in Opioid-Tolerant Patients

Breakthrough cancer pain (BTcP) is a common problem in patients with cancer. Fentanyl Buccal Tablet (FBT) is used for the treatment of BTP in adults with cancer who are already receiving maintenance opioid therapy for chronic cancer pain. FBT treatment should be individually titrated to an effective dose that provides adequate analgesia and minimizes undesirable effects. To reach the safest effective dose for the individual patient as soon as possible, the dose titration process is critical. The aim of this study, conducted under pragmatic conditions in a large-scale population of cancer patients is to compare the proportion of patients reaching an effective FBT dose after titration starting with either a 100 mcg dose or a 200 mcg dose.

This Phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter, dose-ranging study will compare the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of cicletanine hydrochloride (HCl) to placebo in subjects with PAH. Study drug will be administered alone, or on the background of stable PAH therapy. The study will consist of 3 periods: a screening period, a 12-week placebo-controlled treatment period, and a long-term, blinded extension period.

Symptomatic Study Investigating Degarelix in Patients Suffering From Prostate Cancer

The purpose of this trial was to see how well a new trial drug (degarelix) worked on lower urinary tract symptoms (also known as LUTS) in prostate cancer patients as compared to how a standard drug hormonal treatment worked on the same symptoms. The advancement/worsening of prostate cancer may be associated with LUTS and the symptoms may impact the ability to urinate normally and thereby the quality of life for these patients. Patients were randomly selected (like flipping a coin) to receive either degarelix or standard hormone therapy (combination of goserelin and bicalutamide) for a 3 month treatment period. During this period the relief of urinary symptoms was evaluated via a questionnaire filled in by patients and addressing the severity and frequency of their symptoms.

The treatment we are studying is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). In TMS, an electromagnetic pulse is passed into the brain through a coil placed on the head. Previous studies have shown TMS to be capable of altering brain activity in specific areas; for example it has been used to improve mood in clinical depression. In this study we will assess if, by targeting TMS to the brain area responsible for feeling breathless, participants' breathlessness will be improved
