Colorectal Cancer Screening in Average-risk Population: Immunochemical Fecal Occult Blood Testing Versus Colonoscopy

Aims: 1. To compare the efficacy of biennial immunochemical fecal occult blood test (iFOBT) versus colonoscopy every 10 years for the reduction of colorectal cancer-related mortality at 10 years in average-risk population. 2. To determine the compliance and complications associated with both strategies. Methods: Multicenter, randomized, controlled study in 8 Spanish regions (Aragón, Canarias, Catalunya, Euskadi, Galicia, Madrid, Murcia and Valencia). Study groups: - Group I: iFOBT (OC Sensor®) in one stool sample, followed by colonoscopy when a positive result. - Group II: colonoscopy. Sample-size calculation: 27,749 subjects in each study group (total: 55,498).

The primary objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of peginterferon beta-1a in reducing the annualized relapse rate (ARR) in participants with relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS) at 1 year. The secondary objectives of this study are to determine whether peginterferon beta-1a, at 1 year when compared with placebo, is effective in reducing the total number of new or newly enlarging T2 hyperintense lesions on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans, reducing the proportion of participants who relapse, and slowing the progression of disability.

Effect of LY2062430 on the Progression of Alzheimer's Disease

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an age-related degenerative disorder of the brain, characterized by progressive decline in cognitive function and ability to perform activities of daily living, and ultimately can lead to death due to complications of the disease. AD is thought to be caused by an excess of A-Beta amyloid, a sticky protein in the brain that forms amyloid plaques. Treatments that slow the synthesis or deposition of A-Beta amyloid, or that increase clearance, might be expected to slow the progression of AD. LY2062430 (solanezumab) is a humanized anti-A Beta peptide immunoglobulin G-1 (IgG1) monoclonal antibody being developed for the treatment of AD. The primary hypothesis being tested is that LY2062430 will slow cognitive and functional decline in AD as compared with placebo. Each patient's participation will last approximately 19 months. Patients taking approved AD medications may participate in this study and continue taking these medications during the study.

The prevalence of COPD in HIV+ and AIDS patients is unknown. The pathophysiology of HIV infection and COPD might be of interest to both conditions. The research hypotheses of this study are: In patients with HIV infection living in the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands (CAIB): 1. The Prevalence of airflow obstruction in patients with HIV infection is higher than in the general population. 2. In these patients, the prevalence of emphysema detected by HRCT is common (greater than or equal to 15%) 3. DLCO measurement is a good marker for the presence of emphysema on CT 4. The inflammatory response is different from that seen in patients with COPD and / or emphysema without HIV infection

The AC-055B201/MUSIC study is a Phase II study, comparing one dose of ACT-064922 (macitentan) 10 mg with placebo in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The main study objective is to demonstrate that macitentan positively affects the forced vital capacity (FVC) in comparison with placebo in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). The secondary objectives are to evaluate the effect of macitentan on the time to disease worsening or death in patients with IPF, and to evaluate the benefit/risk profile of macitentan in the treatment of patients with IPF.
