There are about 11304 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Denmark. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in Europe and United States and the second leading cause of death worldwide and affects more than 10,000 Danes each year. Studies in a late and stationary phase after stroke have shown that physical rehabilitation is of great importance for survival and physical ability of these patients, however many studies show that patients lie or sit next to their bed under hospitalization for more than 88.5 % of the daily hours. Physical activity in stroke patients has never previously been measured immediately after debut of symptoms; furthermore there is no knowledge about the optimal dose of physical rehabilitation for these patients. Accelerometers, small measuring devices, are a relatively new way to measure physical activity precisely, and hence it is possible to obtain an objective measure of how active stroke patients are in the first week after admission. The accelerometers measure a variable voltage, depending on the range and intensity of movement. They can measure movement dependent of the placement of the accelerometer, for instance over the hip, arm or leg. Studies confirm their reliability, even in patients with abnormal gait, such as stroke patients. Another approach of studying the effects of physical activity and rehabilitation is through the examination of biomarkers. Studies have shown that biomarkers released during physical activity can inhibit biomarkers released after tissue injury in the brain, as seen after stroke. These brain biomarkers cause further damage and studies show that the higher the levels, the higher the damage. It is therefore obvious to examine whether physical activity rehabilitation can down regulate this destructive process in patients with stroke. Clarification of the optimal dose of physical activity in stroke patients immediately after debut of symptoms and examination of both the biochemical aspects of physical rehabilitation as well as the optimal dose of physical rehabilitation is of great importance for many patients, their relatives as well as of a great socioeconomic importance. The purpose of the project is to investigate feasibility of treadmill training on a weight-bearing treadmill in the acute phase after admission after an ischemic stroke. Furthermore we wish to investigate the acute inflammatory response after ischemic stroke and whether it changes with treadmill training.
The primary aim of the present study is to investigate different biomarkers like VEGF, EVGF and others ability to predict time to recidive and progressions free survival.
This is a randomized study of the European SIOP Neuroblastoma Group (SIOPEN) in high-risk neuroblastoma (stages 2, 3, 4 and 4s MYCN-amplified neuroblastoma, stage 4 MYCN non amplified > 12 months at diagnosis). The protocol consists of a rapid, dose intensive induction chemotherapy, peripheral blood stem cell harvest, attempted complete excision of the primary tumour, myeloablative therapy followed by peripheral blood stem cell rescue, radiotherapy to the site of the primary tumour and immunotherapy (R4 randomization - isotretinoin and ch14.18/CHO (Dinutuximab beta, Qarziba ®).), with or without s.c. aldesleukin (IL-2)). Patients diagnosed after the closure of R3 randomization will not be R4 randomized. For these patients the use of ch14.18/CHO antibody is recommended without scIL-2 as continuous infusion as standard of care outside of controlled trials. ch14.18/CHO received marketing authorization by EMA in May 2017 (Qarziba ®). In the induction phase, all patients receive Rapid COJEC following the result of the R3 randomization which was closed on June 8th, 2017 after inclusion of 630 patients as planned. Following induction treatment peripheral blood stem cell harvest (PBSCH) is performed and complete excision of the primary tumour will be attempted. Patients with an inadequate metastatic response to allow BuMel MAT followed by PBSCR at the end of induction should receive 2 TVD (Topotecan, Vincristine, Doxorubicin) cycles. After Rapid COJEC induction, localized patients will proceed to consolidation. Patients aged 12-18 months at diagnosis, with stage 4 neuroblastoma, no MYCN amplification and without segmental chromosomal alterations (SCAs) are thought to have a good prognosis and will stop treatment after induction therapy and surgery to the primary tumour. Consolidation consists of BuMel MAT based on the results of the R1 randomization followed by peripheral blood stem cell rescue (PBSCR) and radiotherapy to the site of the primary tumour. The R2 immunotherapy randomization using ch14.18/CHO as 8 hour infusion on 5 consecutive days ( total dose (100mg/m²) with or without aldesleukin (IL-2) alternated with isotretinoin (13-cis-RA) is closed. The amended R4 immunotherapy randomization using ch14.18/CHO as continuous infusion (total dose 100mg/m² over 10 days) with or without aldesleukin (IL-2) alternated with isotretinoin (13-cis-RA) has accrued according to plan with results pending awaiting data maturity and DMC approval.
This is an observational study in primary care aiming to validate biomarkers for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
In Denmark the number of patients, sick listed for more than four weeks is increasing, and patients suffering from musculoskeletal disorders make one third of the total amount of long-term absenteeism. Compared to other diagnoses, patients suffering from musculoskeletal diseases, including low back pain, are less likely to return to work after a period of sick leave. It seems that a multidisciplinary intervention, including cooperation between the health sector, the social sector and in the work place, has a positive effect on days off work due to musculoskeletal disorders and particularly low back pain. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of a work oriented multidisciplinary intervention. A randomized controlled trial will include 770 patients with low back pain. The study population consists of patients, who are sick listed or at risk of sick leave due to LBP. The control group is treated with usual care in a team with participation of a physiotherapist, a chiropractor, a rheumatologist and a local employed social worker The Intervention group is treated with usual care and in addition intervention of a psychologist, an occupational physician, an ergonomist and a social worker from the local sickness benefit office. The treating physiotherapist will be the RTW-coordinator. Outcome will be reported at the end of treatment as well as 6 and 12 months follow up. The primary outcome is number of days of work. Secondary outcomes are disability, pain, and quality of life. This large RCT study is testing the effectiveness of a preventive intervention targeting patients on short term sick leave or at risk being sick listed because of low back pain. We have developed a novel multidisciplinary team structure using the treating physiotherapist as the return to work coordinator, and having the case manager from the sickness benefit office participating in team meetings.
Hypothesis: The investigators want to study whether parathyroid hormone improves healing of humerus after a fracture. The investigators will assess healing of the humerus with Constant score.
The purpose of this non-interventional study is to implement a survey initiative to assess HIV prevalence for one or more diseases and/or conditions within a specific segment of the population not yet diagnosed with HIV, who presents for care with the specific disease/condition. The list of diseases below is not indicative of the most important indicator diseases for HIV but rather a list of diseases suggested for surveillance. This study will enrol patients presenting with the following diseases/conditions: 1. Presenting for care of malignant lymphoma, irrespective of type 2. Presenting for care of cervical or anal dysplasia or cancer, (Cervical CIN II and above) 3. Presenting for care of Hepatitis B or C virus infection (acute or chronic - and irrespective of time of diagnosis relative to time of survey), 4. Presenting with ongoing mononucleosis-like illness 5. Presenting with unexplained leukocytopenia or thrombocytopenia lasting at least 4 weeks 6. Presenting with seborrheic dermatitis / exanthema 7. Presenting with pneumonia, admitted to hospital for at least 24h 8. Presenting with unexplained lymphadenopathy 9. Presenting with peripheral neuropathy of unknown cause (diagnosed by neurologist) 10. Presenting with primary lung cancer 11. Presenting with severe or recalcitrant psoriasis (newly diagnosed)
This study is a 3-legged randomized study examining whether during shoulder surgery performed in the beach chair position active compressions of the lower leg with a sequential compression device (SCD) have a superior effect on stabilizing cerebral and circulatory hemodynamics when compared to TED stockings or a control group without any stockings.
The primary purpose of the present study is to investigate the usefulness of Procalcitonin as a supplement to the Streptococcal antigen test and Centor criteria in the differential diagnose making between Streptococcal and non-Streptococcal acute tonsillitis. Furthermore, the investigators aim to examine Procalcitonin as a diagnostic marker in acute tonsillitis due to Fusobacterium Necrophorum.
TNF alfa blockers are widely used for treatment of severe psoriasis. These biologics are well-tolerated with few side effects. Unfortunately not all patients respond adequately to treatment with tnf alfa blockers. Some do not respond at all while others respond initially but gradually lose effect despite increased dose and more frequent administration. The cause of treatment failure is largely unknown and it may be production of tnf-alfa neutralizing antibodies. This has been demonstrated in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease who lost response after treatment with tnf-alfa blockers.
