There are about 11304 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Denmark. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To test if smokeless tobacco is more effective than nicotine buccal tablets in smoking cessation compared with a control group with low dose nicotine patches. Also retreatment will be tested with smokeless tobacco every 6 months in failures for 1½ year. Adherence to the program will be enhanced by assessment of cholesterol, blood pressure, lung function and body weight every 6 months for 2 years.
COLOR II is a randomized, international, multi center study comparing the outcomes of laparoscopic and conventional resection of rectal carcinoma below 15 cm with curative intent. Clinical and operative data will be collected centrally in the coordinating centre in Halifax, Canada. Quality of life and costs will be assessed on a national basis.
The consequence of aortic valve stenosis (AVS) is increased pressure load on the left ventricle which causes left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy, and myocardial stretch will cause activation of cardiac peptides and activation of the renin angiotensin aldosterone system (RAAS). The consequence of LV hypertrophy is increased chamber-stiffness and delayed active LV relaxation which initially will cause diastolic and later systolic dysfunction. In heart failure (HF) and ischemic heart disease the degree of diastolic dysfunction has been demonstrated to correlate with functional class, neurohormonal activation and prognosis which also recently have been suggested for AVS. With longstanding elevated filling pressures the left atrium (LA) will dilate. Only limited data are available on the degree and importance of LA dilatation in AVS. When apparent, symptoms of HF in AVS are associated with high mortality rates. If LV systolic dysfunction also is present prognosis will deteriorate further. In these cases aorta valve replacement (AVR) is recommended. AVR will normalize pressure overload and thereby decreases LV hypertrophy. Previously it was believed that in time LV hypertrophy regressed towards normal and even normalized. Recent studies however have demonstrated that LV hypertrophy regression mainly happens during the first year after AVR, and little subsequent changes are seen during the remaining 10 years. Furthermore, patients that experience most regression of hypertrophy have more favourable outcome and better functional class than patients with less regression of hypertrophy. Thus absence of reverse remodelling is associated with poor outcome after AVR. Importantly the regression of LV hypertrophy is closely paralleled by decreasing RAAS hyperactivity. RAAS hyperactivity may be attenuated pharmacologically with angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARB) which in systemic hypertension with LV hypertrophy has been associated with reverse remodelling. The hypothesis is that in patients undergoing AVR for symptomatic AVS, 12 months post operative blockade of the angiotensin II receptor will accelerate LV and LA reverse remodelling, reduce filling pressures and suppress neurohormonal activation compared with conventional therapy. This will lead to improved exercise tolerance and due to improved left atrial function reducing the risk of atrial arrythmias.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate a novel ultrasound bladder scanning device designed particularly for children in children with bladder dysfunction.
The aim of the study are: 1. Retrospectively to study the clinical characteristics and features (somatic, psychological and social variables) of patients treated in Center for Eating Disorders, Odense University Hospital 1994-2004. 2. To study the predictive power of the psychosocial and morphometric data with regard to drop outs, relapse and outcome. 3. To investigate eating habits, social functions and quality of life in weight recovered and chronicly ill patients with eating disorder.

Primary headache disorders are now accepted as physiological diseases, and advanced imaging-techniques have demonstrated a migraine generator in the brain stem and increased stimulus sensitivity in these patients. The underlying neuronal dysfunctions remain to to clarified and the existing neurophysiological methods have not yet been useful. More sensitive and reliable methods are therefore highly needed. The aims of the study are therefore to develop a sensitive and reliable method to demonstrate a cortical reorganisation and expansion of pain sensitive cortical areas in patients with migraine or tension-type headache.
Rheumatologists are discussing, whether rehabilitation of patients with low back pain (LBP) can be improved. At present patients with LBP start treatment as soon as possible, this also applies for patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP) - pain lasting over 12 weeks. At Glostrup University Hospital department of Physical Medicine/rheumatology we use a method (method A) where an interdisciplinary team gives the patients a treatment composed of various topics. This includes among other things education, physical team training, exercises in swimming pool, stretching exercises, and occupational therapy. A different method (method B) originates from the Rehabilitation centre in Karlslunde led by Teddy Oefeldt. Here they focus strictly on dynamic training of muscles in the back and the buttocks. A therapist, who in the beginning partly carries the patient through the exercises, assists this training. In both methods, individually considerations are taken, but to a greater extend in method B. The treatment will extend over a three months period. A few earlier investigations have compared these two methods, but they have not been systematized to such a degree, that they gave any final conclusions. Therefore, we initialized an investigation including a larger number of patients, where the two methods are compared from the results the patients achieve after 3, 6, 12 and 24 months. 286 consecutive patients were included and randomized to one of the two methods. Those, who did not wish to participate in the investigation, were treated according to the department’s normal procedure (Method A)
The purpose of the study is for recalcitrant hand and foot warts to compare the efficacy of treatment with Intense Pulsed Light and paring versus paring alone.
Patients with a diagnosis of stroke or TIA, who are already included in the RIALTO-cohort study are asked to participate in a RCT after discharge from hospital. Patients in the intervention group will receive four visits by a study nurse with the aim of controlling the patient's hypertension, reducing risk factors like tobacco smoking and obesity, and motivating the patient to physical activity and to a healthy diet.Patients in the control group will receive the usual treatment. This study is aimed at testing the hypothesis, that Primary outcome: the blood pressure lowering will be greater in the intervention group Secondary outcomes: the blood pressure will be lower in the intervention group and the number of patients who have stopped smoking will be greater in the intervention group The number of obese patients who have reduced their BMI will be greater in the intervention group The number of patients with a Rankin Scale<3 who are physically active for four hours a week will be greater in the intervention group Time to recurrent stroke, MI and death will be longer in the intervention group Outcomes are measured by follow up visit one and two years after inclusion in the study Expected Total Enrollment: 342 in the RCT, 1200 in the cohort Study Start: 011205 (PREVENT) Study Completion: January 2009(PREVENT), September 2013 (RIALTO Cohort study)
