Model for Prognosis of Elderly Gastric Cancer Patients

This study aims to develop and validate a Random Survival Forest (RSF) model for predicting long-term survival in elderly patients following curative resection for gastric cancer. The study is a retrospective multi-center analysis involving patients aged 75 and above who underwent gastric resection from January 2009 to December 2018 at nine top-tier hospitals in China. An online prognostic tool is introduced to assist clinicians in predicting patient prognosis and customizing treatment and follow-up strategies.

The Study on the Mechanism of Radiotherapy-elicited Immune Response

Radiotherapy plays an important role in multidisciplinary treatment of esophageal cancer. Data from many laboratories indicate that local radiation produces systemic, immune-mediated anti¬tumour and, potentially, antimetastatic effects. Additionally, the combination of local radiotherapy and immune-modulation can augment local tumour control and cause distant (abscopal) antitumour effects through increased tumour-antigen release and antigen-presenting cell (APC) cross-presentation, improved dendritic-cell (DC) function, and enhanced T cell priming. The generation of an effective antitumor immune response requires the presentation of tumor antigens to naïve CD8+ cells in tumor-draining lymph nodes (TDLN) . Tumor-draining lymph nodes, however, are often subject to the immunosuppressive activity of tumor-derived factors, such as cytokines and other bioactive molecules from tumor cells and their associated leukocytes in the primary tumor site that contribute to the overriding of effective rejection mechanisms. Thus, in TDLN a T cell tolerance rather than a T cell activation often occurs, thereby preventing immune attack and facilitating local tumor progression.

Deep-sea Fish Oil for Prevention of Acute Radiation-induced Esophagitis

Purpose:To observe and evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of deep-sea fish oil in preventing acute radiation-induced esophagitis (ARIE). Methods and Materials:A total of 120 patients with esophageal cancer treated with radiotherapy were randomly assigned (1:1) to treatment or control group. In the treatment group, 1g deep-sea fish oil was oral administrated prophylactically twice a day,the control group was blank control. The clinical efficacy of deep-sea fish oil on prevention of ARIE was evaluated by comparing the differences in the occurrence time, the grade and incidence of ARIE. Additionally, the change in nutritional status was also investigated. Hemanalysis, liver function, kidney function changes, and adverse reactions were compared before and after treatment to evaluate the safety of deep-sea fish oil.

PWP1's Expression in Gastric Cancer.

Background:Gastric cancer is a globally important disease and the fifth most diagnosed malignant cancer in the world. Because it is usually diagnosed at an advanced stage, gastric cancer has a high mortality rate, making it the third most common cause of cancer-related death. Hot spots of gastric cancer incidence and mortality exist in East Asia, Eastern Europe and South America. It is still an urgent problem to find new diagnostic and prognostic markers and better understand the molecular mechanism of gastric cancer. Although radical resection and systemic chemotherapy have shown great improvement, the prognosis of gastric cancer (GC) patients is still depressing due to malignant proliferation and metastasis. Therefore, it is urgent to clarify the potential molecular mechanism of gastric cancer progression, which will contribute to the development of targeted therapy. Effective induction of tumor cell apoptosis is the most important feature of a new chemical agent for cancer treatment. There is increasing evidence that the cell cycle can act in concert with apoptosis to cause cell death under certain cellular stress conditions. A comprehensive understanding of the relationship between apoptosis and cell cycle is essential for developing effective cancer therapies. PWP1 is also known as endonuclein, which contains five WD40 repeated domains and belongs to the WD40-repeated superfamily. It is highly expressed in human pancreatic adenocarcinoma, where it functions as a cell-cycle regulator. However, the normal function of Pwp1 is largely unknown. Previous research data show that PWP1 plays a key role in regulating biological functions such as RNA processing, signal transduction, gene expression, vesicle transport, cytoskeleton assembly and cell cycle progression. Whether the high expression of PWP1 is ubiquitous in tumors, the relationship between the high expression and clinicopathological factors of tumors, and the mechanism of PWP1 in tumors are still unclear. Further exploration of the molecular mechanism of PWP1 in GC may provide new ideas and therapeutic targets for GC treatment in the future, and benefit clinical patients.

What's the value of prostate MRI artificial intelligence assistant diagnosis system in predicting the pathological results of prostate targeted biopsy? What's the generalizability of the MRI artificial intelligence assistant diagnosis system? Researchers will compare the cancer detection rates of AI-cTB and routine cTB to explore the added value of using AI for the guidance of cTB. Participants will: Receive AI-cTB or routine cTB.

The Impact of Smoking on the Prognosis of Elderly Surgical Patients

Postoperative delirium is a common complication that frequently occurs in elderly patients after surgery. It not only increases the length of hospital stays and healthcare costs but also raises the incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction and even mortality. However, the underlying mechanisms of its onset are not yet fully understood. Evidence suggests that smoking can lead to gut microbiota dysbiosis and metabolic dysfunction, and the gut microbiota and its metabolites play a crucial role in cognitive function through the gut-brain axis. Yet, no studies have reported whether smoking could affect the occurrence of postoperative delirium and the quality of postoperative recovery through the gut microbiota. This study aims to observe the incidence of postoperative delirium and the postoperative recovery quality scores between smokers and non-smokers.
