Efficacy and Safety of Dose-dense Chemotherapy (ddEC-ddP) for Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy of HER2-negative Breast Cancer

Recent clinical studies showed that breast cancer patients especially for those with lymph node metastasis may benefit from dose-dense chemotherapy, like adriamycin and cyclophosphamide (AC) q2w×4→ paclitaxel (P) q2w×4. However, the studies on dose-dense (dd) regimen chemotherapy is mostly based on postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy and the optimum of dose-dense chemotherapy has not been determined for Chinese population with HER2-negative breast cancer patients. In our study, a prospective, randomized, open-label, multi-center clinical study was conducted to compare the efficacy and safety of dose-dense chemotherapy regimen (dd epirubicin/cyclophosphamide (EC) followed by dd paclitaxel (P)) and conventional chemotherapy (epirubicin/cyclophosphamide (EC) followed by docetaxel (T)) as preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy in the treatment of HER2-negative breast cancer in Chinese population.

Study on Biomarkers for Early Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease

The project of Bio-AD is a population- based cohort study among the elderly in China. The project includes not only Alzheimer's disease (AD including familial AD and sporadic AD), but also other clinical stage of AD, as well as elderly people with normal cognitive function. The project will collect, detect and screen the special biomarkers at different clinical stage of AD based on body fluid, gene and brain image. The standard and consistent assessment protocols are employed to obtain clinical, cognitive, genetic, neuroimaging and biospecimen data. The purpose of this project is to establish a panel of biomarkers which could be used to diagnose AD at the early stage, and to establish a risk prediction models for AD to predict the 5-years risk of the onset and progression of AD among elderly population in China.

Obesity is now becoming a worldwide serious problem. Obesity is associated with a spectrum of severe diseases, including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and cancers. Lipocalin 2 (LCN2), also known as neutrophil gelatinase associated lipocalin (NGAL), is a member of the lipocalin family. Due to its upregulated expression in infection, LCN2 is originally considered to be a key regulator of immune response. Subsequent investigations revealed that LCN2 is expressed in many tissues and is related to a variety of diseases, including obesity. LCN2 was reported to be increased in obesity individuals. Thus, the investigators decide to investigate the relationship between LCN2 and obesity.

A Prospective Cohort Study of Metabolic Associated Fatty Liver Disease in China

Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a new concept proposed in 2020. Unlike non-alcoholic fatter liver disease (NAFLD), the diagnosis of MAFLD requires the presence any of the following 3 metabolic risks, including overweight/obesity, presence of diabetes mellitus, and evidence of metabolic dysregulation. However, there are patients that have hepatic steatosis but no metabolic risk, who thus do not meet the diagnostic criteria of MAFLD. Besides, there are patients with both MAFLD and other liver diseases. The clinical features and the management of these patients remain unclear. Thus, further histopathological and clinical study is required to elucidate and compare the characteristics of MAFLD and NAFLD. Here, in this single-center, prospective clinical study, investigators are planning to establish a long-term follow-up cohort of patients with either MAFLD or NAFLD. In order to understand the risk of developing liver-related complications and important extra-hepatic outcomes (e.g. cardiovascular disease), and also to better elucidate the risk of disease progression in "lean" NAFLD individuals without any metabolic dysregulation and MAFLD individuals with dual or multiple causes. Ultimately, investigators aim to improve the diagnosis of MAFLD and improve patients' outcomes.
