NCT ID: NCT00072033 Completed - Esophageal Cancer Clinical Trials

Neoadjuvant Docetaxel and Cisplatin Plus Chemoradiotherapy Followed By Surgery in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced, Resectable Esophageal Cancer

Start date: March 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel and cisplatin, use different ways to stop tumor cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to damage tumor cells. Giving combination chemotherapy with radiation therapy before surgery may shrink the tumor so that it can be removed. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving docetaxel and cisplatin together with chemoradiotherapy followed by surgery works in treating patients with locally advanced, resectable esophageal cancer.

NCT ID: NCT00072007 Completed - Leukemia Clinical Trials

Cladribine and Rituximab as Remission Induction Therapy Followed By Rituximab and Stem Cell Mobilization in Treating Patients With CLL

Start date: June 2002
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as cladribine, use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Monoclonal antibodies, such as rituximab, can locate cancer cells and either kill them or deliver cancer-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. Combining cladribine with rituximab may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving cladribine and rituximab as remission induction therapy together with rituximab and stem cell mobilization in treating patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia.

NCT ID: NCT00071461 Completed - Clinical trials for Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

Efficacy and Safety of Oral Bosentan in Patients With Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

BUILD 1
Start date: August 2003
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Endothelin-1 (ET-1) is expressed in a variety of pulmonary pathological conditions including pulmonary vascular disease and pulmonary fibrosis. Bosentan (an oral dual ET-1 receptor antagonist) could delay the progression of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a condition for which no established treatment is available. The present trial investigates a possible use of bosentan, which is currently approved for the treatment of symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) WHO class III and IV, to a new category of patients suffering from IPF. It was decided to offer Open Label treatment (bosentan) for patients willing to continue in the BUILD 1 study.

NCT ID: NCT00071331 Completed - Clinical trials for Congestive Heart Failure

EVEREST: Efficacy of Vasopressin Antagonism in hEart failuRE: Outcome Study With Tolvaptan

Start date: September 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness of tolvaptan or placebo in adults with worsening congestive heart failure (CHF).

NCT ID: NCT00070590 Completed - Pulmonary Fibrosis Clinical Trials

Efficacy and Safety of Oral Bosentan in Pulmonary Fibrosis Associated With Scleroderma

Start date: July 2003
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Clinical and experimental studies suggest that bosentan could delay the progression of interstitial lung disease (ILD) associated with systemic sclerosis (SSc), a condition for which no established efficacious treatment is available. The present trial investigates a possible use of oral bosentan, which is currently approved for the treatment of symptoms of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) WHO Class III and IV, to a new category of patients suffering from ILD associated with SSc.

NCT ID: NCT00070304 Completed - Lymphoma Clinical Trials

Gemcitabine and Vinorelbine in Treating Young Patients With Recurrent or Refractory Hodgkin's Lymphoma

Start date: July 2004
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as gemcitabine and vinorelbine, use different ways to stop cancer cells from dividing so they stop growing or die. Combining more than one drug may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving gemcitabine together with vinorelbine works in treating young patients with recurrent or refractory Hodgkin's lymphoma.

NCT ID: NCT00070174 Completed - Leukemia Clinical Trials

Gemtuzumab Ozogamicin in Treating Young Patients With Newly Diagnosed Acute Myeloid Leukemia Undergoing Remission Induction and Intensification Therapy

Start date: December 2003
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

RATIONALE: Giving chemotherapy before a donor bone marrow transplant helps stop the growth of cancer cells. It also helps stop the patient's immune system from rejecting the donor's stem cells. Also, monoclonal antibodies, such as gemtuzumab ozogamicin, can find cancer cells and either kill them or deliver cancer-killing substances to them without harming normal cells. When the healthy stem cells from a donor are infused into the patient they may help the patient's bone marrow make stem cells, red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well gemtuzumab ozogamicin works in treating young patients who are undergoing remission induction, intensification therapy, and allogeneic bone marrow transplant for newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia.

NCT ID: NCT00069784 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Non-Insulin-Dependent

The ORIGIN Trial (Outcome Reduction With Initial Glargine Intervention)

ORIGIN
Start date: August 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The primary objectives of the ORIGIN study were: - To determine whether insulin glargine-mediated normoglycemia can reduce cardiovascular morbidity and/or mortality in people at high risk for vascular disease with either Impaired Fasting Glucose (IFG), Impaired Glucose Tolerance (IGT) or early type 2 diabetes; - To determine whether omega-3 fatty acids can reduce cardiovascular mortality in people with IFG, IGT or early type 2 diabetes. The secondary objectives of the insulin glargine study were to determine if insulin glargine-mediated normoglycemia can reduce: - total mortality (all causes); - the risk of diabetic microvascular outcomes; - the rate of progression of IGT or IFG to type 2 diabetes.

NCT ID: NCT00069121 Completed - Colorectal Cancer Clinical Trials

A Study of Xeloda (Capecitabine) Plus Oxaliplatin in Patients With Colon Cancer

Start date: April 18, 2003
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This 2 arm study will compare the efficacy and safety of intermittent oral Xeloda plus Eloxatin (oxaliplatin) with that of fluorouracil/leucovorin in patients who have had surgery for colon cancer and no previous chemotherapy. Patients will be randomized to receive either 1) XELOX (Xeloda 1000mg/m2 po bid on days 1-15 + oxaliplatin) in 3 week cycles or 2)5-fluorouracil + leucovorin in 4 or 8 week cycles. The anticipated time on study treatment is until disease progression and the target sample size is 500+ individuals.
