There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To understand the effects of a novel dietary supplement when used in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle exercise program and to define biomarkers that are specific to sarcopenia. A primary aim in the present study is to determine whether a relationship exists between positive changes in body composition through increases in lean mass and reductions in body fat following oral supplementation of naturally occurring food components in combination with exercise. The purpose of the present study is to examine the effects of a multi-nutrient supplement in combination with an endurance and resistance based exercise intervention in a cohort of older adult men with varying degrees of sarcopenia as compared to younger male controls (McMaster/CIHR/Exerkine project). A sub-purpose nested within the study is to provide serum and muscle samples for use in an aging/sarcopenia biomarker discovery study taken at pre-intervention for the young and older men (Buck Institute/Astellas project).

All subjects will receive a total of three internal and three external treatments at four week intervals. Subjects will be followed up at one and four months after treatment is complete.
The objective of this trial is to assess the efficacy and safety of CNM-Au8 as a remyelinating treatment for vision-impairing MS lesions in participants who have chronic vision impairment as a result of Relapsing-Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. The primary endpoint is to assess the efficacy and safety of CNM-Au8 as a remyelinating therapy in patients with stable RMS. The secondary endpoint is Change in Functional Composite Responder Analysis Score from Baseline to Week 24.
Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant and pervasive public health challenge and is associated with mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Although the perinatal period may be a time of greater risk for experiencing IPV, and greater vulnerability to PTSD symptomatology, a lack of research exists pertaining to the identification/treatment of IPV-related PTSD symptoms during this period. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, and employing a feminist, intersectional framework, the effectiveness of trauma-informed cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) among pregnant survivors of IPV experiencing PTSD symptomatology on depression, anxiety, PTSD and maternal-infant attachment will be explored.
The ascending aorta conducts blood from the heart to the rest of the body. The ascending aorta can become enlarged, and the risk of tearing and rupturing becomes higher with larger aorta. When the ascending aorta tears or ruptures, the risk dying is high even if surgery is done as soon as possible. Traditionally, when the ascending aorta gets above 5.5 cm, surgery is recommended to replace the aorta. However, this threshold is based relatively weak evidence, and sometimes patients with smaller aorta can tear or rupture. On the other hand, surgery carries its own risk as well. Since there are risk of waiting or doing surgery, there is currently no great support for either approach for patients with a smaller aorta. In the TITAN SvS trial, patients with an ascending aorta between 5.0 to 5.5 cm is assigned by chance to the early surgery group, in which they will undergo replacement of aorta, or the surveillance group, in which they will be closely monitored. The chance of dying or suffer tearing or rupture of aorta between the two groups will be compared. The result of the trial will guide future practice for patients with enlarged ascending aorta. This is a prospective, multi-centre randomized control trial that compares the all-cause mortality, aneurysm-related aortic events, rate of stroke, and quality of life for those patients undergoing early elective ascending aortic surgery to those patients undergoing surveillance. Patients referred for an ascending aortic aneurysm that meets the inclusion criteria will be randomized to the early elective surgery group or the surveillance group. Recruitment will end when the desired sample size is reached, and the patients will be followed for a minimum 2-year period. The primary objective of the trial is to compare the composite outcome of the all-cause mortality and incidence of acute aortic events between surveillance and elective ascending aortic surgery for patients with degenerative or bicuspid valve-related ascending aortic aneurysm after 2 years of follow up. The hypothesis is that the early surgery group will have a significantly lower all-cause mortality and incidence of acute aortic events at 2 years of follow up compare to the surveillance group. The result of this trial will provide evidence based guidance in the appropriate management of ascending aortic aneurysm based on the size criteria, and establish a large database for future investigations.
Patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) are reports coming directly from patients about how they function or feel in relation to a health condition and its therapy, without interpretation of the patient's responses by a clinician or anyone else. PROMs capture patients' experiences of symptoms and impact of disease on functioning and can support clinicians to monitor disease progression and facilitate patient-centered care. The EMPATHY trial will determine the effects of routinely measuring PROMs on the experiences of patients undergoing hemodialysis in Alberta and Ontario. In this study, two kinds of PROMs will be used: a disease-specific PROM and a generic PROM. The disease-specific PROM focuses on health symptoms related to kidney failure and the generic PROM focuses on general health. In the trial, patients will be invited to complete the PROMs, and results of the measures will be linked to treatment aids for clinicians, providing specific information on how symptoms can best be managed. These care pathways will also be available to patients not receiving PROMs. The main outcome of this study will be patient-clinician communication, which will be assessed using a questionnaire called the "Communication Assessment Tool". In addition to assessing the effect of using these questionnaires on patient-provider communication, this study will allow us to explore whether their use affects patient management and symptoms, use of healthcare services, and the overall cost of implementing these questionnaires in clinical practice. Each dialysis unit (including all patients) will be randomized to one of four study groups: 1) Patients will complete the disease-specific PROM; 2) Patients will complete the generic PROM; 3) Patients will complete both the disease-specific and generic PROM; 4) Patients will receive usual care. Clinicians (in dialysis units randomized to PROMs, groups 1-3) will receive the results of the questionnaires completed by the patients. This is intended to trigger the clinician to ask the patient about certain symptoms if any exist. All clinicians in all study groups will have access to the clinical "treatment aids", which are tools that help identify and manage certain symptoms that patients might have. For example, people with severe itching will be cared for based on a step-wise treatment algorithm. Patients will also receive a report of their questionnaire(s) results, with an explanation of what it means.
The purpose of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre PSMA registry is to assess the contribution of 18F-DCFPyL (PSMA) PET imaging (PET/MR or PET/CT) to the management of patients with prostate cancer (PCa). Background: Currently, patients with intermediate or high risk prostate cancer are staged with CT abdomen and pelvis and bone scan to assess for distant metastases. Patients with biochemical recurrence after primary therapy are restaged in a similar manner. Locally, multiparametric MR of the prostate or prostate bed may also be obtained in select cases. Patients recruited for this registry will be staged/ restaged with PSMA PET (PET/CT or PET/MR) to determine whether this imaging strategy results in more accurate detection of metastatic disease (for patients undergoing primary staging) or detection of local recurrence or distant disease (for patients undergoing restaging). Choice of imaging method (PET/CT or PET/MR) will be made by one of the study PIs, based on clinical judgement taking into account the specific exam indication, prior recent imaging, and suitability for MR imaging. Study design: This is a single arm study to assess the contribution of PSMA PET imaging (PET/MR or PET/CT) to the management of patients with prostate cancer (PCa). In this prospective trial, the investigators will recruit 200 men whom will undergo PET imaging using an integrated PET/CT scanner or with an integrated PET/MR. Patients will receive standard treatment for PCa according to UHN/PMH urology oncology site policies. Treatment outcome including clinical response, blood work including serial serum PSA, and follow-up imaging if performed up to 5 years will be recorded.
