Does a Nutritional Supplement Increase Vitality, Energy and Perceived Well Being?

Factors Group is a producer of nutritional supplements. This study aims to determine whether one of their products improves the energy and sense of well-being in individuals who consume it. Interested subjects will complete a 1 week lead-in phase where they will be asked to consume a placebo daily to see if they are a good fit for the study. After the lead-in phase, subjects will be randomized to take either All Greens or a different placebo for 12 weeks. The investigators expect All Greens to have better results than the placebo, but subjects will not know which supplement they are taking. The primary outcome is a score on a questionnaire of well being.

A Study of Fluzone® High-Dose Vaccine Compared With Fluzone® Vaccine In Elderly Adults

The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of Fluzone High-Dose compared to standard dose Fluzone for laboratory-confirmed or culture-confirmed influenza caused by influenza types/subtypes that are similar (for laboratory-confirmed) or antigenically similar (for culture-confirmed) to those contained in the respective annual vaccine formulations. Primary Objective: - To compare the clinical efficacy of Fluzone High-Dose to that of Fluzone in elderly adults, with respect to laboratory-confirmed influenza caused by any influenza viral types/subtypes, associated with the occurrence of a protocol-defined influenza-like-illnesses (ILI). Monovision for the Treatment of Diplopia

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to quantitatively assess the efficacy of monovision correction in the treatment of acquired small angle binocular diplopia in adult patients. METHOD: Twenty patients with symptomatic diplopia were enrolled in a prospective treatment trial. All had stable deviations of 10 prism diopters or less for over three months. Each received monovision spectacles and/ or contact lenses with distance correction in the dominant eye. Half received a +3.00 diopter (D) add and the others received +2.50 D. The validated and standardized Diplopia Questionnaire and Amblyopia and Strabismus Questionnaire (ASQE) were used to quantify the efficacy of monovision correction for diplopia by measuring the functional impact on vision-specific quality of life.

No evidence-based, evaluated, population-appropriate resources exist to translate Type 2 diabetes (T2DM) primary prevention messages to Canadians. Significant barriers to such large-scale interventions include: - the need to identify, then target specific at-risk populations - significant time-delays before any program effects on T2DM incidence may manifest. However, women with gestational diabetes (GDM) are a readily identifiable study cohort at significant risk for recurrent GDM and T2DM—hence GDM women provide important opportunities for rigorous, timely diabetes prevention intervention studies. The investigators propose FDD (Families Defeating Diabetes), a Canadian diabetes prevention intervention uniquely targeting women with recent GDM in the context of their families. FDD is a 12 month, randomized, controlled T2DM prevention intervention targeting women with recent GDM, within their family context. Five Canadian sites and 177 women will participate. Multifaceted information and behavioural change support will be provided for diet, weight loss, and activity through: seminar, walking groups, electronic updates, password-protected social networking site. Subjects and controls will be compared for: DM prevention knowledge; diet/activity choices; HbA1C; body habitus at study onset/during study/12 months/24 months. Consenting immediate family members will have protective knowledge/diet/exercise choices/body habitus measures documented at study onset/12 and 24 months.

Type 2 Diabetes Evaluation of Ranolazine in Subjects With Chronic Stable Angina

This study will evaluate the effect of ranolazine compared to placebo on the average weekly angina frequency in subjects with chronic stable angina and coronary artery disease (CAD) who have a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), and whether ranolazine can reduce the frequency of angina (chest pain) attacks, compared to a placebo. Subjects will be asked to record their daily angina episodes in a diary at the end of each study day. Ranolazine is approved for the treatment of chronic angina, and is not approved for the treatment of T2DM.
