Effectiveness of an Online Integrated Treatment for Problem Gambling and Tobacco Smoking

Research has shown that problem gambling and tobacco smoking are highly comorbid. Problem gamblers who smoke tend to: have more severe gambling problems, experience stronger gambling urges, have other mental disorders, bet larger sums of money, spend more time in gambling activities, and have greater financial problems. Accordingly, it might be helpful to reduce your smoking as well, while you are trying to get a grip on your gambling. Previous studies have treated gambling on its own or tobacco smoking on its own. To date, there has not been a treatment that has targeted treating both at the same time. Considering how often these conditions occur together, it is important to see if combining their treatment results in beneficial outcomes. In the current research, the researchers aim to design and test an online, self-help intervention for co-occurring problem gambling and tobacco smoking. It will draw on strategies from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI) - both which have been shown to be successful in treating problem gambling and tobacco smoking. These outcomes will be compared to a group that receives treatment for problem gambling only. This research will provide insight into a potential new intervention for treating two highly co-occurring conditions.

This study will evaluate the safety, tolerability, and clinical activity of GSK3326595 in participants with relapsed and refractory MDS, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), and AML. The study will be conducted in 2 parts: Part 1 will determine the clinical benefit rate (CBR) of GSK3326595 in monotherapy and Part 2 will be expanded to study GSK3326595 in combination with 5-Azacitidine which will be composed of a dose escalation phase followed by dose expansion cohort of GSK3326595.

Canadian Experience With Contiform Intravaginal Device For The Treatment Of Stress Incontinence

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a highly prevalent condition of involuntary urine leakage associated with coughing, sneezing or exertion. Midurethral slings (MUS) are a safe and efficacious surgical option to treat SUI and is considered the best treatment by recognized organizations. Nevertheless, it remains a surgical intervention exposing patients to risks, possible recurrence and is not recommended to women planning to have more children. Incontinence pessaries offer an alternative to surgery with a similar mechanism of action as MUS. However, there is a paucity of literature on the outcomes of incontinence pessary treatment of SUI, with only two prospective studies have been published on the Uresta pessary and one australian case-series on Contiform pessary. The objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the self-positioning Contiform intravaginal pessary used as a conservative method to address stress urinary incontinence in women in order to provide Canadian real-world data. The 3-month efficacy, adverse events and global patient satisfaction (including comfort and ease of insertion) will be assessed. It is hypothesized that the Contiform device will be well tolerated by 60-70% of patients, with no serious adverse events. It will cure SUI for about 50% of them.

Exercise Intensity Matters in Stroke Rehabilitation

The main objective of this multi-site project is to compare the effects of 12 weeks of HIIT vs. MICT on brain plasticity. The effects of HIIT vs. MICT on cardiovascular health, psychosocial predictors of physical activity and motor function will also be compared. HIIT and MICT will be delivered through a whole-body exercise paradigm using a recumbent stepper that requires arm and leg forces. Outcomes will be assessed at baseline (T0, 0 weeks), at the end of the intervention (T1, 12 weeks) and at 8-week follow-up (T2, 20 weeks).

Asthma is a chronic lung disease affecting over 800,000 Canadian children. Knowing how to avoid asthma triggers, to take care of one's health, and to know when and why to do one's treatment can help prevent asthma crises, and have a better quality of life. Games in health can make the management of asthma easier by helping the child better understand his condition, his triggers, and manage his asthma by himself. Games also offer a personalized experience, where players can receive feedback about their learning. However, few studies explored the use of games in childhood asthma. This study will test 4 games for children with asthma. Through different characters and scenarios, the goals of the games are to help the child with asthma to better recognize and manage his asthma triggers and symptoms. The objectives of this study are: - Evaluate the acceptability of these games in children with asthma - Gather feedback on the games to guide future development
