This non-inferiority study will assess safety and efficacy of LUMIGAN® RC (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution 0.01%) versus DuoTrav® (travoprost 0.004%/timolol 0.5% combination ophthalmic solution) in patients previously on Travatan® Z (travoprost ophthalmic solution 0.004%) monotherapy.
This study is being conducted to test the hypothesis that daily consumption of a baked food product containing whole soy for 6 weeks will significantly reduce plasma Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol (LDL-C) in individuals with hypercholesterolemia. As such the overall goals of this study are to determine whether daily consumption of muffins made from whole soy flour for 6 weeks can lower plasma LDL-Cholesterol, and if so, establish whether the effect is dose-dependent. To do this, study collaborators will: (1) conduct a detailed chemical and physical characterization of certified defatted whole soy flour that will be incorporated into a muffin; (2) formulate and produce a palatable whole soy flour muffin along with a control muffin containing wheat flour; (3) conduct a parallel controlled trial in which soy muffins will be fed randomly to persons with elevated LDL-cholesterol in a human clinical trial. All participants will be randomized into one of three groups and asked to eat two muffins daily for 6 weeks in the following combination: high dose soy; control group or low dose soy. Before, after, and mid-way during the feeding period, blood samples will be obtained for measurements of lipids, glucose, insulin, inflammation, and soy phytochemicals. The effect of soy consumption on waist circumference, body mass index (BMI) and blood pressure will also be examined.

Ulcerative colitis is a condition that mainly affects young adults where the lining of the bowel is inflamed causing bloody diarrhea. The cause of ulcerative colitis is unknown and treatments remain imperfect with no cure for the disease. Initial success has been shown with a highly novel treatment where patients with active ulcerative colitis receive a fecal enema to try and replace their stool containing bacteria that may be driving their disease with that from a healthy donor. To assess if this works by comparing how well it treats the disease compared to a placebo enema.
Awake craniotomy for resection of brain tumor located in close proximity to areas of eloquent brain function, such as speech, motor and sensory, is an accepted procedure used to minimize neurological injury during resection. During awake craniotomy, anesthesia is usually provided using a combination of local anesthesia (regional scalp block and/or local infiltration) and intravenous (IV) agents to provide sedation, anxiolysis and analgesia. Propofol sedation, commonly in combination with a shorter acting opioid such as fentanyl, or remifentanil, is an effective and popular technique during awake craniotomy, achieving a high degree of patient satisfaction and acceptance. Most of the anesthetic agents are associated with some respiratory depression. The anesthetic agent called dexmedetomidine is a potent, highly selective α2-adrenoceptor agonist. The effects of dexmedetomidine are anxiolysis, analgesia, sedation and sympatholysis, and it is not associated with respiratory depressive effect. Bekker et al. first reported the successful use of dexmedetomidine in awake craniotomy in 2001. The purpose of this blinded, prospective, randomized study is to compare the efficacy of dexmedetomidine versus propofol-remifentanil based sedation in patients undergoing awake craniotomy for resection of tumors. The study hypothesis is that the efficacy of performing intra-operative brain mapping is identical between dexmedetomidine and the propofol-remifentanil based sedation. The primary end-points are to assess the ability to perform intraoperative mapping during awake craniotomy. Secondary end-points will assess the incidence of complications (respiratory depression, failure to provide adequate analgesia), as well as patient and surgeon satisfaction to the corresponding anesthetic technique.
This pilot, phase II, 24-week study will recruit a total of 10 patients and will evaluate the efficacy and safety of acitretin in patients with severe chronic hand dermatitis .
Pragmatic, Randomized, Optimal Platelet and Plasma Ratios (PROPPR)is a Phase III trial designed to evaluate the difference in 24-hour and 30-day mortality among subjects predicted to receive massive transfusion ([MT] (defined as receiving 10 units or more red blood cells (RBCs) within the first 24 hours). The goal of PROPPR is to improve the basis on which clinicians make decisions about transfusion protocols for massively bleeding patients. PROPPR is a Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (ROC) Protocol. ROC is funded by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), the United States' Department of Defense (DoD) and the Defence Research and Development Canada. PROPPR will be conducted as a Phase III trial at Level I Adult Trauma Centers in North America.
This is a prospective, multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group 3-arm study to investigate 2 different doses of subcutaneous (SC) IgPro20 compared with placebo for maintenance treatment of patients with CIDP. Patients who received at lease 1 dose of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) within 8 weeks before screening will be assessed during 4 separate study periods. Patients first undergo a Screening Period, followed by an IgG Dependency Test Period of up to 12 weeks to test for ongoing need of IgG. Those patients experiencing CIDP relapse during this test period will be administered a standardized IVIG regimen during an IVIG Re-stabilization Period. Patients with improved and maintained adjusted inflammatory neuropathy cause and treatment scale (INCAT) in the IVIG Re-stabilization Period will continue to the SC Treatment Period of the study. Patients entering the 24 week SC Treatment Period will be randomized to receive weekly infusions of 1 of 2 IgPro20 doses (0.2 or 0.4 g/kg body weight) or placebo. The overall study duration is up to 52 weeks. Clinical outcomes will be assessed by the Inflammatory Neuropathy Cause and Treatment (INCAT) score, maximum grip strength, the Medical Research Council (MRC) sum score, the Rasch-built Overall Disability Scale (R-ODS), and electrophysiological evaluations.
