There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
Two LNF-containing regimens will be evaluated in the D-LIVR Phase 3 study: (1) LNF/RTV/PEG IFN-alfa-2a and (2) LNF/RTV. Each of these arms will have efficacy endpoints that measure clinical benefit with regard to viral suppression and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) normalization. For each LNF-containing regimen, a composite endpoint of EOT (48 weeks) virologic response and ALT normalization will be used. Virologic response will be defined as a 2 log10 IU/mL reduction from baseline.
The Physiologic Pacing Registry is a prospective, observational, multi-center registry performed to gain a broader understanding of 1) physiologic pacing implant and follow-up workflows, including pacing and sensing measurements and 2) the clinical utility in creating a 3-dimensional electro-anatomical map of cardiac structures prior to physiologic pacing device implants based on the clinical site's routine care.
This is a randomized controlled trial evaluating the impact of interscalene block on worsening of upper airway collapse in sleep disordered breathing for patients undergoing ambulatory shoulder surgery.
A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled parallel group clinical trial evaluating the effects of acute treatment with a PCSK9 inhibitor (alirocumab) versus placebo on low-density lipoprotein (LDL) in 100 high-risk patients presenting with STEMI and referred for primary PCI. The objective is to determine the effect of acute, rapid lowering of LDL cholesterol with alirocumab added to high dose statin therapy in patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI. The hypothesis is that, in patients with STEMI undergoing primary PCI, rapid lowering of LDL cholesterol with a PCSK9 Inhibitor (alirocumab) initiated in the acute setting pre-PCI, will favourably affect LDL cholesterol concentrations compared with placebo.
This study aims to institute a province-wide registry leveraging the availability of a new Positron Emission Tomography tracer, [18F]-DCFPyL and PET expertise across Ontario centers to improve our ability to characterize patterns of recurrence and personalize therapies in men with recurrent prostate cancer after primary treatment.
By the year 2038, over a million Canadians are expected to have Alzheimer's disease, a type of dementia. Dementia increases the risk of nursing home placement among the elderly more than fivefold. Given the exceptionally vulnerable nature of this patient population, there is a pressing need to ensure that the clinical care they receive is evidence-based, tailored specifically for them, and meeting the high standards of quality that would be expected in any other health-care setting. Delirium is a sudden and severe change in brain function that can cause a person to appear confused or disoriented, have memory loss, and have difficulties maintaining focus. It is an urgent care issue facing elderly patients residing in nursing homes, or long-term care (LTC) facilities. Delirium is a significant cause of illness and mortality, affecting between 10%-89% of LTC patients, but little research has focused on delirium prevention in the LTC setting. This study will assess the effectiveness of a LTC multicomponent delirium prevention program (PREPARED Trial intervention). The PREPARED Trial intervention is an intervention provided to nursing staff working in LTC facilities that consists of four components: a decision tree, an instruction manual, a training package, and a toolkit. The feasibility and acceptability of the PREPARED Trial intervention has already been successfully demonstrated; however, a thorough and well-designed large scale study is needed in order to confirm its ability to reduce delirium among LTC residents. In this study, approximately 40-50 LTC facilities will be randomized to either receive the PREPARED Trial intervention or to receive usual care. At the end of the 4-year study period, the investigators will be able to demonstrate the degree to which the PREPARED Trial intervention reduces: 1) the number of new cases of delirium; 2) delirium severity; and 3) the duration of delirium episodes. This study will provide the blueprint of a program that can be transferable to LTC facilities across Canada.
This crossover study investigates the effects of restricting arterial blood flow during cycling exercise on PGC-1α and its upstream signalling pathways. In a randomized order, participants will exercise once for 30 minutes with restricted blood flow and then will exercise once for 30 minutes with no blood flow restriction.
Starlight Therapy™ has been shown to help alleviate end-of-life symptoms in Palliative Care patients and reduce the need for PRN or "as needed" medications. This study will investigate the efficacy of this intervention on the symptom of anxiety using a mixed-method analysis. The primary investigator hypothesizes that any anti-anxiolytic effects could be caused by the Intrinsically Photosensitive Retinal Ganglion Cell neural pathway to the amygdala.
Single-arm, feasibility study to evaluate the Ceragenin Coated Endotracheal Tube (the CeraShield ETT) in adults who require intubation and are expected to be mechanically ventilated for ≥ 24 hours.
This study will provide insights on the infusion parameters, dosing, and experience of participants transitioning to CUVITRU in a real-world setting.
