Follow-up Trial of Rituximab Interferon Transplant Trial: Study Drug-Rituximab and Alpha Interferon

A previous phase II trial entitled Treatment of Follicular non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma with High Dose Therapy and Stem Cell Support Followed by Consolidative Immunotherapy with Rituximab and Alpha Interferon was conducted at the Odette Cancer Centre between 2005 and 2012. The primary objectives of this previous trial was to assess progression free survival and overall survival. Of the 36 patients in this trial, approximately 18 remain in remission. In this new follow up trial, follow up data will prospectively be collected on patients who provide informed consent to do so.

OCT is now an established way to measure the thickness of the Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer (RNFL) in the retina of the eye. The thickness of the RNFL is always a reflection of the number of the RNFs in any particular area of the retina. Each single RNF runs a long course starting from the cell body which is the retinal ganglion cell in the retina and ends in the thalamus of the brain where it relays visual information to other nerve cell in the thalamus. Along this long course RNFs are in close anatomical relationship with the pituitary gland crossing just above this gland about midway along their course. Hence enlargement of this gland can interfere with the RNFs.

A Randomized Controlled Crossover Study Comparing Sugammadex and Placebo

Intraoperative monitoring of the motor evoked potentials has been shown to be both a sensitive and specific indicator for detecting intraoperative neurological injuries during spine surgery.(Fehlings, Brodke et al. 2010) It is utilized whenever there is risk for injury of nerve roots or the spinal cord during the procedure. Anesthetic agents, especially the inhaled volatile anesthetics and muscle relaxants, are con-founders for motor evoked potential monitoring as they have deleterious effects on the amplitude of motor evoked potentials.(Sekimoto, Nishikawa et al. 2006) Hence, total intravenous anesthesia with no intraoperative muscle relaxants, are the standard anesthetic technique for these surgeries. Muscle relaxants are usually required during the induction of anesthesia and endotracheal intubation of larynx. Current practice is to wait for the resolution of residual neuromuscular blockade before the motor evoked potential recordings (MEP) are initiated and this makes it difficult to assess if there was any neurological injury associated with positioning of the patient. A previous case series has shown that reversal of muscle relaxant can improve the amplitude of MEPs.(Batistaki, Papadopoulos et al. 2012) The aim of this study is to perform a randomized controlled trial to study the changes in motor evoked potential amplitudes comparing sugammadex and placebo.

Bridging the Gap: Incorporating Exercise Evidence Into Clinical Practice in Breast Cancer Care in Ontario

Breast cancer (BC) and its treatments lead to numerous side effects that affect a person's life for years after treatment has ended. Research shows that regular exercise limits many of these side effects. However, less than 30% of BC survivors regularly exercise due to many barriers that include patients being unaware of the benefits of exercise, health professionals facing institutional, personal, and patient-related barriers to promoting exercise, and a lack of knowledge translation (KT) strategies within cancer institutions that focus on accessible exercise interventions and education by physiotherapists. For this project, a pilot study is needed as the first step in order to assess process and resource variables before implementation of a large-scale intervention. The primary objective of this pilot trial is to assess the feasibility of conducting a larger trial to evaluate the effects of a novel KT intervention using exercise and self-management versus usual care among BC survivors. The secondary objective is to determine preliminary estimates of effects of the KT intervention of exercise plus self-management (SM) program versus usual care on (a) levels of exercise knowledge and behaviour, (b) health related quality of life and (c) resource utilization, among BC survivors over a four month period.

This study will document the detection rate and false positive rate as well as failure rate of a new prenatal screening approach ('Smart NIPT') as described at www.vanadisdx.com and implemented in an academic laboratory with limited molecular testing experience. Testing will be performed on samples from a general risk pregnancy population, with additional high-risk cases added to improve confidence in the detection rate. Additional characteristics of this non-NGS test such as turn-around time, costs (equipment, training, per test), results reporting, fetal sex, fetal fraction, and quality measures will also be examined.

This is a phase II single centre open label single arm pre-operative window of metformin treatment in stage I-IIIa Non small cell lung cancer. In which patients will be invited to participate by receiving Metformin treatment during 14 to 21 days at 850 mg BID until the day before surgery. They will be followed closely for any Adverse Events during treatment and 30 days after surgery. During treatment there will be no follow up tests except 1 fasting blood glucose at week 2 of treatment. Survival data will be prospectively gathered after study treatment has ended until death.

The aim of the trial is to compare the effect of semaglutide s.c. 1.0 mg once-weekly versus placebo as add-on to sodium glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitor (SGLT-2i) monotherapy or in combination with either metformin or sulfonylurea on glycaemic control after 30 weeks of treatment in subjects with type 2 diabetes. Subjects will remain on their pre-trial medication.
