There are about 28871 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Canada. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of the DIVERT study is to provide a prudent, controlled clinical context for the use of flow diversion, a promising option of yet unproven benefit, in the care of patients with acute blood blister-like and dissecting intradural aneurysms. Hence DIVERT is a simple, multicenter, randomized trial integrated into daily practice. DIVERT addresses the clinical dilemma of whether the use of PED FD truly is a safe and effective alternative to best standard treatment, defined as conventional methods of treatment or in some cases, observation. Selection criteria are few, to facilitate the recruitment of most affected patients confronted with these difficult aneurysms that their physician judges suitable for PED FD. The trial does not obstruct clinical care, does not include extra tests or risks beyond what is necessary and proven beneficial. Endpoints are simple, clinical, meaningful, valuable and resistant to bias. Follow-up visits and tests are "routine', imposing no extra burden on clinical transactions. Data is collected in simple case-report forms filled by physicians.
Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) can suffer from infertility because they do not produce an egg each month, resulting in irregular periods. As a result, these women often need a medication called clomiphene citrate (clomiphene) to induce ovulation. A traditional 'clomiphene protocol' begins with a short course of progestin treatment to bring on a period (termed a 'withdrawal bleed') before starting the clomiphene medication. Newer evidence, however, has suggested that this progestin-induced shedding of the uterine lining (i.e., withdrawal bleed) may decrease the chances of pregnancy. The purpose of our study is to determine whether withdrawal bleeding has an impact on pregnancy rates for patients with PCOS undergoing a clomiphene cycle. It is hypothesized that patients who undergo ovulation induction with clomiphene citrate without prior endometrial shedding will have higher clinical pregnancy rates than those who begin with a progestin-induced withdrawal bleed.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety and feasibility of the eCLIPs™ Family of Products for the treatment of unruptured intracranial bifurcation aneurysms in conjunction with embolization coils.
"Is it possible to recruit and retain up to 200 participants in a Randomize Control Trial (RCT) of high impact lifestyle approach of diet and exercise designed to significantly reduce cardiovascular events in middle-aged and older men and women at high risk of such events?" To address this question, we propose a pilot study of 3 years in duration: 1 year recruitment and randomization, a full year of intervention for all recruited participants, and the last 6 months to assess the one year data and prepare and submit the full trial application, informed by the pilot study outcomes in terms of retention rate. The pilot will then continue on for the full 9 years of intervention and be rolled into the main study involving additional Canadian centers and collaborating international centers in the US, Britain, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India, and South Africa.
This study will examine the effect of offering information sessions to a randomized group of patients with OCD spectrum disorders. Psychoeducation is a component of first line treatment; though intended to be informative in nature, these psychoeducation services can have a positive effect on quality of life, sense of self-efficacy, functioning and a person's readiness to engage in long term treatment. However, no studies have dismantled and tested the independent effect of psychoeducation from standard treatment such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. This study aims to directly test the potential effect of one aspect of CBT that if found to be helpful, can become a distinct early intervention component of care so that as people await services, they can profit from the early benefits associated with attending these information sessions. This study therefore sets out to examine the potential early benefits of providing education about the illness on symptom functioning, quality of life and readiness to engage in more formal treatment. We will offer 4 structured information sessions to individuals allocated to a wait list for services related to the treatment of OCD and OCD Spectrum Disorders in order to directly test the benefit of adding a didactic structured psychoeducation program to our services. The study will be a randomized trial where subjects (N=50) will be randomly assigned to receive either 1) 4 educational sessions covering information on diagnosis, treatment, available resources and self care for OCD and OCD Spectrum Disorders or 2) wait list as per usual with no additional information sessions. The experimental design is a 2 (treatment condition) by 2 (assessment phase) repeated measures factorial design. It is hypothesized that subjects participating in the psychoeducation group compared to the wait list control group will see greater reductions in self-reported measures of symptom severity and improvement in other measures of quality of life, level of functioning, self-efficacy and readiness to engage in treatment. If this study can demonstrate that the addition of a short structured informative intervention of 4 sessions can confer early benefits for those suffering with OCD and OCD spectrum disorders, then it provides another route by which patients can improve this condition specifically while waiting for consultation and the opportunity to receive a more structured, evidence-based treatment.

The purpose of this experiment is to test the effect of medication minimization on mortality and hospitalization in long-term care residents.
There are currently no standardized programs addressing the well-documented neck pain in surgeons as a result of non-ergonomic positioning and the use of microsurgical equipment. The primary goal of this study is to introduce a brief neck strengthening exercise program to optimize surgeons' neck health. Instructional videos outlining the program along with surveys designed to assess attitude towards neck health will be distributed to first year general surgery residents at the University of British Columbia (UBC) through their required online curriculum webpage. A followup survey will be administered 10 weeks later to determine efficacy of the program through self-reported adherence and changes in attitude towards neck health.
This pilot study will examine the safety and the clinical outcomes after minimally invasive surgery (using a parafascicular technique guided by diffusion-tensor imaging) for intracerebral hemorrhage in patients selected according to evidence-based criteria. The investigators will compare 30 day and 90 day outcomes of patients who have surgery to that predicted by previously reported models for recovery after ICH, and will also describe any surgical complications related to the procedure. The investigators hypothesize that this technique will have the same mortality rate and function outcome, if not better, when compared to the outcomes predicted by previous models.
The investigators hypothesize that individuals who receive a personalized 4 week prehabilitation program consisting of exercise and nutrition counselling with post-workout whey protein supplementation will show, before colorectal surgery, improved insulin sensitivity, inflammatory profile, and substrate utilization compared to baseline measures. These results will translate into a higher functional capacity before surgery as demonstrated by an improvement in 6-minute walking test.
