Effect of SSRIs on Response to Psilocybin Therapy

Start date: January 1, 2023
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

This study is an open-label, single-arm, within-subjects design in individuals with mild-moderate Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). All participants will receive a single dose of 25mg of psilocybin in a therapeutic setting. In order to investigate the effects of length of time on SSRI therapy, 30 participants with varying lengths of time on SSRI therapy will be enrolled, stratified into four groups: - Group 1: ≤ 1 year - Group 2: 1 to ≤ 5 years - Group 3: 5 to ≤ 10 years - Group 4: > 10 years

NCT ID: NCT05594654 Active, not recruiting - Asthma Clinical Trials

A Digital Respiratory Ecosystem for People Living With Asthma

Start date: September 29, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The purpose of this pilot study is to establish the feasibility and acceptability of a digital respiratory ecosystem ("Breathe"), that incorporates an acoustic adherence algorithm, asthma/COPD differentiation classification algorithm, a smart inhaler cap, a digital spirometer, and a real-time air quality database to support people living with asthma to better manage their disease and derive personal and clinical value. Through this study, 30 adults will be asked to use Breathe as a way to monitor and manage their asthma symptoms over a 12-week period.

NCT ID: NCT05594498 Active, not recruiting - Breast Cancer Clinical Trials

A Study of StrataXRT in the Prevention of Radiation Dermatitis in Breast Cancer Patients

Start date: October 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

For breast cancer patients undergoing adjuvant radiotherapy, radiation dermatitis (RD) is a common occurrence that can negatively impact patients' quality of life (QOL). RD often presents as erythema, pruritus, and/or edema and in more severe cases, skin breakage can occur, resulting in moist desquamation. StrataXRT is a silicone-based film-forming topical gel. Recent studies have shown the benefits of StrataXRT, but with mixed results. A recent randomized controlled trial published in 2022 found that in breast cancer patients (n=100), the use of StrataXRT significantly reduced the mean size of the radiation-induced dermatitis area (p=0.002) when compared to the control group. Additionally, another study (n=49) demonstrated significant differences in the Erythema Index (EI) (p=0.001) and Melanin Index (MI) (p=0.005) between StrataXRT compared to the use of Xderm, a moisturizer cream. To validate the finding of the previous studies a pilot study testing the efficacy of StrataXRT has been proposed. In this study, 50 patients will use Strata XRT on their breast/chest wall during radiation treatment. Their skin will be assessed throughout and post-treatment. Investigators hypothesize the severity of skin reactions will be less for patients using Strata XRT when compared to historical data from our centre.

NCT ID: NCT05594199 Recruiting - Smoking Cessation Clinical Trials

Feasibility of a Virtual Smoking Cessation Program

Start date: October 28, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this pilot study of a clinical trial is to learn about the acceptability and feasibility of a virtual smoking cessation program in both the perioperative and fracture clinic settings. The main questions this study aims to answer are: - The number of people that participate in the virtual smoking cessation program - The acceptability of the number, length, content, and delivery of the email messages provided by the program. Participants will be asked to subscribe to our virtual intervention which will include: - A smoking cessation e-learning module component to provide education on the risks of smoking in the surgical or fracture clinic setting, and - An emailing program component that will provide tailored email messages over a 30-45 day period depending on a patient's Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence score and motivation to quit smoking. Researchers will also compare the virtual smoking cessation program to standard care to see if there are any differences shown between both groups in the Fagerstrom test for nicotine dependence scores, number of cigarettes smoked, number of quit attempts, complication rates, and re-admission rates at the 7 day and 30 day time points.

NCT ID: NCT05594173 Completed - Dysphagia Clinical Trials

Chewing and Oral Processing of Solid Food

NIH_HVX6
Start date: September 13, 2019
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Food texture modification is commonly used as an intervention for people with dysphagia (swallowing impairment). However, the field currently lacks a proper understanding of how this intervention works. The overall goal of this project was to collect measurements of food bolus transit through the oropharynx (i.e., mouth and throat) during chewing, oral processing and swallowing.

NCT ID: NCT05594121 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Moderate to Severe Opioid Use Disorder

Monthly Versus Daily Buprenorphine Formulations for Treatment of Opiate Use Disorder

STOPIT
Start date: December 2022
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Opioid use disorder and opioid-related deaths are increasing across Canada. The mainstay of medical treatment includes either full (methadone) or partial (buprenorphine) opioid agonist therapy. In Canada, there are 2 buprenorphine formulations, an immediate-release (Suboxone) and extended-release(Sublocade). These treatments have been shown to be equivalent for medication adherence and treatment retention. However, Sublocade costs 8-times more, and 50% of patients must pay out-of-pocket if they prefer this treatment option. This study is needed to demonstrate the superior benefits of Sublocade on important clinical outcomes to demonstrate its cost-effectiveness and justify expanded insured access across Canada.

NCT ID: NCT05594108 Completed - Clinical trials for IUD Insertion Complication

Ultrasound-guided IUD Insertion During Family Medicine Residency Training

Start date: July 15, 2020
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The objective of this pilot study is to test that hypothesis that ultrasound guided IUD placement by family medicine residents improves patient pain scores, procedure completion time, and procedure complication rates. The secondary objective is to test the hypothesis that ultrasound guided IUD placement improves resident confidence in performing the procedure. A prospective, randomized controlled pilot study will be conducted in the Department of Academic Family Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. All women undergoing IUD placement (hormonal or non-hormonal) at West Winds Primary Care Center from Mar 1, 2020- Mar 1, 2021 will be invited to participate. Informed consent will be obtained from each patient and the resident inserting the IUD prior to initiating study procedures. The control group will comprise 20 women undergoing non-ultrasound guided IUD placement. The experimental group will comprise 20 women undergoing transabdominal ultrasound guided IUD placement. Patient pain scores and resident confidence scores will be tabulated using likert scales and compared between control and experimental groups using independent sample t-tests. Procedure completion time (minutes) will be compared between groups using t-tests. Procedure complications rates will be categorized as: a) inability to penetrate the cervix, b) improper location, c) inability to release the IUD from the insertion device, d) perforation, e) vasovagal reactions, and f) post-procedure infection; outcomes will be compared between groups using Chi-square analyses.
