There are about 10004 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Brazil. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This study will follow participants who are screened and confirmed with a genetic diagnosis of Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2E (LGMD2E/R4), Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2D (LGMD2D/R3), Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2C (LGMD2C/R5), or Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy type 2A (LGMD2A/R1). These enrolled participants will be followed to evaluate mobility and pulmonary function for up to 3 years after enrollment. Additional participant data will be collected from the time the individual began experiencing LGMD symptoms to the present.
A collaboration gap across sectors is a common problem in Denmark and Brazil. Brazilian Heart Insufficiency with Telemedicine (BRAHIT) will run in parallel with the ongoing Danish Reaching the Frail Elderly project (REAFEL - NCT04162548), supported by the Ministry of Higher Education and Health (Innovationsfonden - Grand Solutions), until 2021. REAFEL seeks a stronger collaboration between primary care and hospital cardiologists to manage frail elderly patients, using teleconsultation and data from mobile devices in Denmark. Health resources are scarce in Brazil and a pressing need for the Municipal Secretary of Health of Rio de Janeiro is to reduce wait times to access some areas, as cardiology. When patients are stable after undergoing highly complex procedures in a tertiary hospital, are discharged to outpatient treatment at primary care but, a heterogenous expansion of the primary care system in the Rio de Janeiro municipality has created a great resistance from the population, and among cardiologists, to accept continuing cardiology treatment at the primary care system. Enhancing a collaboration between primary care and cardiologists, that is tangible for the patients, can relieve this pressure. The cross-sectorial collaboration in BRAHIT is based on the involvement of Instituto Nacional de Cardiologia (INC), a tertiary cardiology hospital, with primary investigator Aurora Issa (INC) and primary-and homecare in Rio de Janeiro, with primary investigator Leonardo Graever, Primary Care Special Advisor in the Municipality of Rio de Janeiro. The project proposal originates from Denmark and sponsors the project through a Danida grant (Window 2 from the Danish Foreign Ministry - Danida Fellowship Center 18-M03-KU) to the cardiologist Helena Domínguez, as associate professor in the Dept. of Biomedicine, UCPH, and consultant in Bispebjerg-Frederiksberg Hospital. Being complex public health intervention studies, mixed methods are necessary to evaluate the value gained in the project and to provide research-based policy briefs. The methods include qualitative analyses and a cluster-randomization trial, the latter used for power calculation. Such calculation is based on adequate heart failure medications aggregated in a score constructed for this purpose. Secondary end-point is rate of number of readmissions for any cause, after discharge with heart failure diagnosis.
Hypercoagulability has been demonstrated in COVID-19, leading to respiratory distress and increased mortality. This is an adaptive clinical trial to compare the efficacy and safety of two experimental strategies in patients with COVID-19: ASA or inhaled UFH associated with standard VTE prophylaxis.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of short-term urinary retention and the cure rate in patients with stress urinary incontinence undergoing surgical treatment with fascial pubovaginal sling with two tension adjustment techniques: the classic adjustment technique ("2 fingers") and measuring the distance between the fixation knot and the aponeurosis of 4 cm.
The aim of this study is to provide darolutamide treatment to patients who participated in a previous study with darolutamide supported by Bayer and the treating doctor considers that the continuation of the treatment with darolutamide to be beneficial. Patients will be carried over from the previous studies and continue in this study with darolutamide treatment on the same dosage. They will also return to the study centers for doctor's visits as often as they did in the previous study.
Laparoscopic surgery decreased the morbidity of colorectal surgery. The two most common surgeries for colorectal cancer are right and left colectomy. Objective: To compare perioperative morbidity of the right versus left colectomy for cancer, as well as the quality of laparoscopic oncologic resection of both procedures. Methods: Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data from patients operated at the University of São Paulo School of Medicine, between 2006 and 2016. Postoperative complications were classified with scale within 30 days after surgery. Grade III or greater was considered serious complication. Quality of oncologic resection was assessed by the average number of lymph nodes harvested and surgical margins.
The RECRUIT study is a multinational, multicenter physiological observational study conducted by the PLUG working group. It is a single-day study (1.5-2 hours) associated with specific lung (de)recruitment maneuvers to verify the feasibility of measuring the potential for lung recruitment in mechanically ventilated patients with ARDS by electrical impedance tomography (EIT).
Data show that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) symptoms can be severe in 4% and 3% of the adolescents aged 11-15 years and ≥ 16 years, respectively. In addition, the prevalence of chronic diseases among adolescents has increased in the last years. About 20% of the adolescents have some chronic disease, resulting in increased morbidity and mortality. In march, 2020, the quarantine was officially implemented in Sao Paulo, while elective medical appointments for adolescents with chronic disease were temporarily suspended. To mitigate the deleterious effect of the social isolation on physical and mental health among these patients, this study aims to test the effects of an online, home-based, exercise training program.
Follow a representative sample of Latin American patients diagnosed with atrial fibrillation to set data on demographic characteristics, documenting antithrombotic therapy, describe the INR control level of VKA users, discontinuation rates and clinical outcomes, such as stroke, hemorrhage and death
Amyloidosis by mutation of the transthyretin gene (ATTRh) is part of a group of diseases in which the deposit of structurally abnormal proteins (amyloid fibrils) affects multiple organs such as: liver, kidney, eyes, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract and heart, and, finally, it increases the morbidity and mortality of affected patients. This deposit in the myocardium is manifested syndromically as heart failure with preserved or slightly reduced systolic function, and important diastolic dysfunction. The analysis of diastolic function comprises two components: the assessment of active relaxation, dependent on preload and afterload, and the assessment of the passive properties of the tissue - its hardness or rigidity. Myocardial stiffness represents an important parameter for diagnosis and prognosis, but its evaluation is not included in conventional echocardiography. Cardiac elastography has recently been proposed as a non-invasive diagnostic modality to assess myocardial stiffness.
