There are about 10004 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Brazil. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
This study aims to make a proper scientific assessment on the dietary intake and physical activity levels of a representative sample of the urban population of 8 Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Perú and Venezuela). The study was based on complex, multistage sample design, stratified by conglomerates, being all regions of each country represented, and random selection of main cities within each region according to probability proportional to size method. Sample will be stratified by gender, age (15 to 65 years old), and socioeconomic level. Socioeconomic levels will be balanced and divided in three strata (high, medium and low) based on national indexes used in each country. All the study sites are university-based and will adhere to a common study protocol for training, implementation of fieldwork, data collection and management, and quality control procedures to be performed simultaneously. All participants will be required to provide a written informed consent. A pilot study at small scale will be performed in each country in order to test procedures and tools involved in ELANS. Anthropometric variables, including body weight, height, waist, hip and neck circumferences will be measured according to a standardized protocol. Nutritional intake evaluation will be performed using two 24-hour dietary recalls, with 'multiple pass' procedure and a food frequency questionnaire. Nutritional data will be entered in Nutrition Data System for Research (NDS-R, Minnesota University) after a harmonization process between local foods and NDSR database. Physical activity and energy expenditure will be assessed by IPAQ-long version questionnaire and 7-day accelerometry.
The prostate cancer is the most common parenchymal neoplasia in men over 45 years old. Radical prostatectomy is curative treatment is most used today. Urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction are the main complications of radical prostatectomy. Physical therapy has been used as a form of conservative treatment of these complications. However, the role of physiotherapy in the treatment of these complications is not well defined in the literature. We will do a randomized controlled study with patients undergoing radical prostatectomy. After removal of the Foley catheter, patients will be randomized into 3 groups: control group, group of pelvic floor exercises and anal electrostimulation group. These patients will be evaluated preoperatively in an attempt to meet prognostic factors for urinary incontinence and erectile dysfunction. They will be followed by 2 years after surgery, to assess whether the therapy will alter the course of urinary continence and erectile function in these patients.
The purpose of this study was to collect safety and tolerability data on LCZ696 in eligible PARADIGM-HF patients who received open-label investigational drug. The parent PARADIGM-HF (NCT01035255) trial was terminated early due to compelling efficacy of LCZ696 in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) after the final pre-specified interim analysis in March 2014.
The purpose of this study is to test if Symbicort (budesonide/formoterol) Turbuhaler is effective in treating asthma when used 'as needed' in patients with milder asthma. The efficacy of Symbicort 'as needed' will be compared with Pulmicort (budesonide) Turbuhaler twice daily plus terbutaline Turbuhaler 'as needed'
Phase 1: An observational study ( registry) will be conducted with the objective of documenting the practice of stroke treatment in brazilian and latin american hospitals. Phase 2: A cluster randomized trial aiming to evaluate the effect of a multifaceted strategy to increase evidence based treatments usage for stroke patients. The hospitals will be randomized into two groups: the multifaceted strategy group and the usual care group.
A vitamin D3 high dose would act as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory improving markers of oxidative stress and inflammation in the elderly. Seniors exhibiting polymorphism in the VDR gene would become non-responsive to supplementation.
The study will assess the efficacy and safety of PF-06438179 and infliximab in combination with methotrexate in subjects with active rheumatoid arthritis who have had an inadequate response to methotrexate.
In Brazil, patients with Azheimer's disease (AD) receiving free drugs of government. Even having access to, little is known about the effectiveness, safety and adherence of drug therapy in this group of patients. The research aims to promote adherence and develop strategies to address Drug-Related Problems (DRP's) in AD patients elderly of reference centre for the Elderly of Araraquara . Will be assessed the clinical parameters at the beginning and after the educational intervention period from April 2014 to December 2015.
This is a pilot study where patients with Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) that have failed Transarterial Chemoembolization (TACE) will be treated with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). The focus of the study will be to evaluate safety and efficacy in our population of patients.
The objective of this study is to investigate the efficacy of a treatment based on Movement System Impairment based classification (MSI) model in patients with chronic non-specific low back pain.
