Inhaled Corticosteroid Withdrawal in Patients With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Start date: February 2009
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This is a randomised study to be conducted in patients with severe to very severe Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) to establish whether there is a need for these patients to be continuously treated with an inhaled corticosteroid on top of two potent long-acting bronchodilators. The study also aims to identify the type of patients who are likely to benefit from inhaled corticosteroid maintenance therapy.

NCT ID: NCT00972283 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

Comparison of NN1250 With Insulin Glargine Plus Insulin Aspart With/Without Metformin and With/Without Pioglitazone in Type 2 Diabetes

BEGIN™
Start date: September 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This trial is conducted in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the United States of America (USA). The aim of this clinical trial is to compare NN1250 (insulin degludec (IDeg)) with insulin glargine (IGlar) plus insulin aspart (IAsp) with/without metformin and with/without pioglitazone in subjects with type 2 diabetes (main period) followed by investigating the long-term safety in terms of comparing NN1250 with insulin glargine plus insulin aspart with or without metformin and with or without pioglitazone in subjects with type 2 diabetes. All oral anti-diabetic drug (OAD) treatment will be discontinued, if applicable, when trial participant enters the trial (NN1250-3582) with the exception of metformin and pioglitazone. Subjects who consent to participate in the extension trial (NN1250-3667) will continue to receive the treatment to which they were randomly allocated in the 52 week trial NN1250-3582. The main period is registered internally at Novo Nordisk as NN1250-3582 while the extension period is registered as NN1250-3667.

NCT ID: NCT00966914 Completed - Clinical trials for Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Phase 3 Study of Tavocept Versus Placebo in Patients With Newly Diagnosed or Relapsed Advanced Primary Adenocarcinoma of the Lung Treated With Docetaxel or Paclitaxel Plus Cisplatin

Start date: April 2010
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Tavocept is an investigational drug that is being developed to see if it can increase the survival of patients who are being treated with chemotherapy as well as to see if it can prevent or reduce side effects of chemotherapy. This research study is aimed at trying to find out if people with advanced adenocarcinoma of the lung who are treated with a standard combination of chemotherapy drugs will live longer if they are also treated with an investigational drug called "Tavocept." Another objective of this research study is to find out whether or not Tavocept helps to prevent or reduce side-effects like kidney damage, anemia, and nausea and vomiting that can occur with these drug combinations. The drug combinations that will be used in this research study will include either paclitaxel and cisplatin, or docetaxel and cisplatin. These drug combinations are approved to be used to treat people with advanced NSCLC. Every patient on this research study will be treated with standard chemotherapy for primary NSCLC in the form of either docetaxel or paclitaxel (these will be recommended by your research study doctor), which will be given in combination with cisplatin.

NCT ID: NCT00959764 Completed - Clinical trials for Osteoporosis, Postmenopausal

A Study Comparing Oral Calcitonin to Nasal Spray Calcitonin in Postmenopausal Osteoporotic Women

ORACAL
Start date: June 2009
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to compare the effectiveness and tolerability of two medications, calcitonin nasal spray and a tablet containing calcitonin, in postmenopausal women with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is the term used to describe a large group of diseases, which are characterized by loss of bone density, which makes the bones weaker. Osteoporosis often occurs in postmenopausal women. Calcitonin is a hormone found in the human body. Together with other substances, it regulates the concentration of calcium in the blood and inhibits the natural resorption of bone. Both medications in this study contain salmon calcitonin (sCT), because this form of calcitonin is more active than human calcitonin when used as a medicine. The calcitonin Nasal Spray used in this study is registered and available to doctors in United States for the treatment of osteoporosis. The medication being tested in this study is an oral tablet form of salmon calcitonin.
