Uterine Papillary Serous Cancer (UPSC) Trial

This study will be an open, non-randomised, clinical phase 2 trial, which will involve 30 women diagnosed with uterine papillary serous cancer. The researchers will investigate the effect of four cycles of paclitaxel/carboplatin, followed by whole pelvic external beam radiotherapy to a standard pelvis field (50.4 Gy) with or without a para-aortic boost with respect to the safety and efficacy of treatment, and patterns of recurrence.

Toxicity Substudy of Evaluation of Subcutaneous Proleukin in a Randomised International Trial (ESPRIT): TOXIL-2 Substudy

This substudy is an open-label, randomised study comparing the uptake of recombinant interleukin-2 (rIL-2) in HIV-1 infected individuals receiving different combinations of antiemetics and analgesic agents during rIL-2 dosing in ESPRIT. The design is a factorial one with 4 arms. All patients will receive regular ibuprofen and paracetamol from days 1-6 of the rIL-2 dosing cycle; in addition, patients will be randomised to receive one of two antiemetic combinations, i.e. ondansetron or metoclopramide with or without low dose codeine phosphate as an additional analgesic agent.

Sildenafil For Meniere's Disease

Meniere's disease affects a person's sense of balance. An attack can last 20 minutes to 2 hours or longer. Symptoms include rotational vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus and a sensation of fullness in the affected ear and may be associated with nausea and vomiting. One hypothesis is that Meniere's disease is caused by the excessive accumulation of fluid in the balance tubes within the inner ear. Sildenafil may alleviate the symptoms due to its vasodilatory activity. The purpose of this study is to assess the safety and efficacy of sildenafil (Viagra) compared with placebo on symptoms during one acute attack.
