There are about 10460 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Australia. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this placebo-controlled study is to determine if drotrecogin alfa (activated) treatment provides significant mortality reduction improvement in patients with septic shock compared with placebo treatment in patients receiving the current standard of care for septic shock. This study will also assess the effectiveness of drotrecogin alfa (activated) in reducing 28-day mortality in patients with septic shock and concomitant severe protein C deficiency.
Individuals who were a part of the investigators Screen-HF study (NCT00400257) whose BNP level are in the top quintile will be offered participation in this study. Participants will be randomised to receive either spironolactone or placebo for three years. Participants will then be monitored for indications of heart failure. It is anticipated that the medication will reduce the development of heart failure in this group.
This study is designed to determine if the investigational drug is effective and safe in individuals with asthma.
RATIONALE: In this study a combination of anti-cancer drugs (chemotherapy) is used to treat brain tumors in young children. Using chemotherapy gives the brain more time to develop before radiation is given. The chemotherapy in this study includes the drug methotrexate. This drug was an important part of the two clinical trials which resulted in the best survival results for children less than 3 years of age with medulloblastoma. Most patients treated on this trial will also receive radiation which is carefully targeted to the area of the tumor. This type of radiation (focal conformal or proton beam radiotherapy) may result in fewer problems with thinking and learning than radiation to the whole brain and spinal cord. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying how well giving combination chemotherapy together with radiation therapy works in treating young patients with newly diagnosed central nervous system tumors.
The primary objective is to determine if the use of losartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker, can attenuate left ventricular hypertrophy, independent of its antihypertensive effects, in patients with near end stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) who have an arteriovenous fistula created. Secondary outcomes include the impact of the medication on BNP and hyperkalaemia
The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of this medication in preventing nausea and vomiting in female patients at risk for post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV).
The primary purpose of this study is to assess the efficacy in treating patients with Major Depressive Disorder of one or more doses of Lu AA24530 relative to placebo
The purpose of this study is to find out if weekly Avonex works as well as three times a week Rebif in subjects with relapsing multiple sclerosis.
The objective of this open-label extension is to assess the safety and tolerability of long-term treatment of the rotigotine patch in subjects with early-stage idiopathic Parkinson's disease
Determine whether the addition of CP- 751,871 in combination with paclitaxel plus carboplatin prolongs survival in patients with locally advanced (Stage IIIB with pleural effusion) or metastatic (Stage IV or recurrent) NSCLC of non adenocarcinoma histology.
