Tegafur-Uracil and Leucovorin or S-1 in Treating Patients With Stage III Colon Cancer That Has Been Completely Removed by Surgery

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as tegafur-uracil, leucovorin, and S-1, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. It is not yet known whether giving tegafur-uracil together with leucovorin is more effective than giving S-1 in treating patients with stage III colon cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying giving tegafur-uracil together with leucovorin to see how well it works compared with giving S-1 in treating patients with stage III colon cancer that has been completely removed by surgery.

Study of Tivozanib (AV-951) Plus FOLFOX6 in Subjects With Advanced Colorectal Cancer and Other Gastrointestinal Cancers

The FOLFOX6 regimen is a standard chemotherapy regimen for the treatment of patients with colorectal cancer and other gastrointestinal cancers. Tivozanib (AV-951) is a targeted anti-angiogenesis agent that has demonstrated acceptable tolerability in a phase I clinical trial. This study is designed to test the hypothesis that tivozanib (AV-951) can be combined with standard FOLFOX6 chemotherapy for the treatment of patients with colorectal and other gastrointestinal cancers. The purpose of this study is to determine the maximum dose of tivozanib (AV-951) that can be safely combined with FOLFOX6 chemotherapy, and to evaluate the safety profile, tolerability, and pharmacokinetics of this combination.

Efficacy of the Third Eye Retroscope Auxiliary Imaging System

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate efficacy of the Avantis Third Eye Retroscope auxiliary imaging system. The primary objective of this study is to assess the degree to which incorporating the Third Eye Retroscope auxiliary imaging system in a screening colonoscopy setting results in the detection of additional polyps. Specifically, the primary goals are to estimate (1) the proportion of polyps detected under this protocol that would have been missed without the Third Eye Retroscope, and (2) the proportion of patients found under this protocol to have polyps who would have incorrectly been classified as polyp-free had the Third Eye Retroscope not been used.

Focusing Implementation to Bring Effective Reminders (FIBER)

FIBER is 4-year study that will evaluate the implementation of a large-scale population-based colorectal cancer screening patient reminder and coordinated follow-up program. The CRC screening program began in 2007 with Kaiser Permanente Northwest (KPNW),a not-for- profit, integrated health system in Oregon and Washington. FIBER consists of 1)a practical randomized controlled trial at the start of the program, followed by 2) a longer-term cohort study as all remaining eligible patients receive the program, and 3)a qualitative evaluation. FIBER will evaluate the factors that are associated with implementation success across multiple levels: patient, primary care provider (PCP) team, specialists (gastroenterologists, general surgeons, pathologists), and other health plan staff and systems.

Panitumumab and Irinotecan as Third-Line Therapy in Treating Patients With Metastatic Colorectal Cancer

RATIONALE: Monoclonal antibodies, such as panitumumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as irinotecan, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving panitumumab together with irinotecan may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II clinical trial is studying giving panitumumab together with irinotecan to see how well it works as third-line therapy in treating patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

This research study is for individuals who have advanced breast, colon, pancreatic, ovarian or bladder cancer. Celldex Therapeutics, Inc. is testing a form of immune therapy (vaccine) to see if it can be used to make the immune system attack the cancer. The study includes administration of additional treatments, in combination, thought to enhance the immune response effect. Fluorouracil and Oxaliplatin With or Without Panitumumab In Treating Patients With High-Risk Colon Cancer That Can Be Removed by Surgery

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as fluorouracil and oxaliplatin, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as panitumumab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some block the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Others find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Giving chemotherapy before surgery may make the tumor smaller and reduce the amount of normal tissue that needs to be removed. Giving chemotherapy after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. It is not yet known whether chemotherapy is more effective with or without panitumumab in treating patients with colon cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial assessing whether preoperative chemotherapy and/or an anti-EGFR monoclonal antibody improve outcome in high risk operable colon cancer.
