Filter by:The aim is to investigate if inflammatory biomarkers in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) are associated with the development of perinatal depression and/or persistent pain after cesarean delivery. This study will obtain CSF and blood samples in 70 parturients. All parturients will be assessed for perinatal depression and persistent pain, and the presence/absence of these outcomes will be correlated to changes in the inflammatory biomarkers within the samples collected. If present, consistent changes in biomarkers correlating with perinatal depression or persistent pain may be utilised as a predictive tool and facilitate early treatment for these conditions.
This study will collect high-quality data on how practicing primary care physicians across the U.S. currently manage patients experiencing chronic pain and how the results of Ethos Laboratories' test change clinical decision making. To do so, this study leverages simulated patient cases called Clinical Performance and Value vignettes (CPVs) in a proven methodology to rapidly measure physician care decisions.
The interventional study will have two main aims. First, to compare two interventions aiming to improve sleep in chronic pain patients. And secondly, to study the associations of sleep, mood, chronic pain and quality of life. Half of participants will go through iCBT intervention for insomnia and the other half will receive sleep hygiene education. Additionally, the study will gather information which patients will benefit/will not benefit the tertiary pain clinic treatment when the outcome variable is the Health-related Quality of Life (HrQoL).
The main objective of this research is to assess the effectiveness of virtual reality as a treatment to reduce pain and disability in patients with chronic neck pain compared to a regular exercise program for the neck.
Marginalized populations are at increased risk of chronic pain, trauma and use of street drugs to manage this suffering, with the associated risk of overdoses. Non-pharmacological options to manage chronic pain are difficult for this population to access. myoActivation® is an innovative structured assessment and therapeutic approach. This study will be conducted in the Vancouver Community Primary Care Chronic Pain Service and will include myoActivation and physiotherapy. The study will include sixty patients who seek care on a Tuesday, the only day that myoActivation is offered, and will examine the impact of these treatments on pain outcomes, function and quality of life.
Chronic pain concernes one in four adults in Belgium. Because of the psychological and social repercussions, a biopsychosocial approach is necessary in order to improve the quality of life of people suffering from chronic pain. Non-pharmacological techniques such as hypnosis, self-care learning, music-therapy and psycho-education are gaining more and more interest in the scientific field. Indeed, several studies have shown a reduction in psychological distress and an improvement in global quality of life after having learned self-hypnosis/self-care. Furthermore, other studies focusing on music as a treatment for chronic pain highlight an analgesic effect of music over pain and a reduction of common comorbidities. Nevertheless, only few studies aim at comparing these techniques to each other. The aim of our study would be to compare a 7 months learning program of self-hypnosis/self-care, music-therapy/self-care, motivation to learn self-hypnosis/self-care and self-care alone in order to highlight the most efficient treatment for chronic pain.
This study was planned to adapt the Vanderbilt Multidimensional Pain Coping Inventory into Turkish, to investigate its cultural adaptation, validity and reliability. The study was completed with 352 volunteers who fulfilled the criteria to be included in the Rheumatology Clinic of Istanbul Haydarpaşa Numune Training and Research Hospital. Data collection tools used in the study; Demographic Data Form, Mcgill and Melzack Pain Questionnaire, Short Form-36 (SF-36), Vanderbilt Multidimensional Pain Coping Inventory (VMPCI), Pain Coping Inventory (PCI), Pain Coping Scale were used.
This study proposes to pilot test an intervention to facilitate opioid pain reliever (OPR) tapering in primary care. The intervention will incorporate a clinician embedded within primary care to follow tapering dose schedules to support providers as well to deliver a psychosocial curriculum to support and engage patients. In a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT), the study will examine the preliminary efficacy and feasibility of the manualized, protocol-based tapering intervention ("TapPro") compared to usual care. As there is no standard definition or outcome for tapering, the primary efficacy outcome is a decrease in OPR dose over six months. Separately, the study proposes a clinically meaningful dose reduction (greater than or equal to 30 percent) as a secondary outcome. The central hypotheses' are that a tapering intervention with patient and provider support is feasible in a primary care setting and can result in greater dose reduction when compared to usual care.
Sleep disturbances are common among chronic pain patients, with reports typically ranging from 50-70% of patients reporting sleep difficulties. It is well documented that, alongside a high comorbidity with chronic pain, chronic insomnia also has high comorbidity with, and is a risk factor for, developing an anxiety disorders. This clinical trial will examine the effects of virtual reality (VR) meditation environments on patients with pain- and insomnia-related anxiety. The purpose of this study is to examine the benefits of using VR meditation with patients with chronic pain and chronic sleep disturbance so that clinicians can more effectively treat core causes to symptoms and reduce counterproductive therapies. Research objectives include: 1. To examine the clinical and health characteristics, including sleep, pain, fatigue, cognitive abilities, and cardiovascular health in patients with chronic pain. 2. To examine changes in the primary clinical outcomes, including chronic pain, complaints of poor sleep, and fatigue. 3. To examine changes in the secondary clinical outcomes, including mood, daytime functioning, cognitive functioning, and cardiovascular health. 4. To examine the mechanistic variables, including arousal (heart rate variability, HRV) and CS (thermal response).
The development of an integral and global treatment to improve the quality of life in those with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is challenging, thus a whole body Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy program is proposed as an effective option.
