Previous studies have found a decrease in joint position sense (JPS) and force sense (FS) in patients diagnosis of thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis, but no correlation have been stabilize between JPS, FS and pain intensity perceived by the patient during activity daily life (ADL). The goal of the study is compared joint position error (JPE) with joint force sense error (JFSE) in subjects with carpometacarpal (CMC) joint osteoarthritis and investigated a possible correlation between thumb pain intensity and thumb proprioception in patients with CMC joint OA.
The Treatment Cabin 'Elosan cabin' is a closed, electrically insulated cabin for the short-term application of a high electrostatic voltage to the body of patients with chronic pain. Patients assigned will have 8 sessions in the treatment cabin, with an interval of 6 days between sessions. The existing therapies and painkillers will be continued at the discretion of the doctor.
Post-intensive care syndrome is an entity of cognitive, physical and mental health disorders occurring and persisting after ICU discharge and responsible of disabilities and decrease of quality of life. Nowadays mental and cognitive health impairments appear to be well known but few data are available about chronic pain after a critical care illness. The aim of the study is to determine the incidence and the risks factors of chronic pain after ICU.
Fibromyalgia syndrome is characterized by chronic generalized musculoskeletal pain associated with fatigue, sleep disturbances and some biochemical markers. The European League Againts Rheumatism (EULAR) described an algorithm how to treat step by step these patients. The objective of this trial is to evaluate if therapeutic exercise is effective on fatigue, pain threshold, quality of life, quality of sleep, pain coping and biochemical and genetic markers. For this purpose, the investigators conduct a randomized controlled trial double-blind (patient and examiner). The investigators included patients diagnosed of fibromyalgia according to the American College of Rheumatology (ACR). Patients included one group receiving exercise therapy consisting of 3 treatment sessions a week over 10 weeks. The variables are measured at the beginning and end of treatment.
30 patients with chronic cervical myofascial pain (4 males, 26 females) aged between 25 to 57 years (with average age 41,20±10,23 years) were included the study. Participants were divided into two groups as intervention group (n=15) and control group (n=15). Patients in intervention group received radial shock-wave application one times a week for six weeks and home based stretching exercises. Patients in control group (CG) received home based stretching exercises. Rest and activity pain (Visual Analog Scale), pressure pain threshold (PPT), cervical range of motion (CROM) and disability (Neck Disability Index) were assessed at baseline and after the treatment.

Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is the most common surgical procedure for removal of the inflamed gall bladder or other gall bladder pathologies. There are more than 12,000 cases of cholecystectomy performed in Taiwan annually, and more than 85% of this procedure are undertook with laparoscopic techniques. Even with minimally invasive laparoscopic operation, patients may still suffer from postoperative wound pain, deep visceral or referred pain. About 80% of patients who received laparoscopic procedures complain of moderate-to-severe pain within the first day after cholecystectomy. Most importantly, up to 20% (range from 3 to 20%) of these patients complained surgical-related pain one year after operation and they require prolonged use of opioid to control chronic postoperative pain (CPSP). However, there are currently lack of clinical practice guidelines or recommendations for prevention of CPSP after laparoscopic abdominal surgery. Although regional block techniques (i.e. truncal block or intrathecal opioid) are considered as effective supplementary analgesic approaches to improve postoperative pain control, parenteral administration of analgesics remain as the mainstay for pain management of laparoscopic abdominal surgery. Naldebain® is prodrug of nalbuphine, which was approved by the Taiwan FDA in 2017. Naldebain® is an extended-release dinalbuphine sebacate, and is rapidly hydrolyzed by tissue of plasma esterase to release nalbuphine. A number of clinical studies have shown that single-dose of pre-operative intramuscular administration of Naldebain® provides significantly higher analgesic effect up to 1 week in hemorrhoidectomy and laparotomy surgery with a well-tolerated safety profile. Therefore, this PI-initiated randomized, double-blind, placebo-control trial aims to investigate the clinical efficacy of Naldebain® in management of acute postoperative pain in patients receiving laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and prevention of the development of CPSP after surgery.
Multiple chronic conditions (MCCs) are costly and pervasive among older adults. MCCs account for 90% of Medicare spending, and 65% of Medicare beneficiaries have 3 or more chronic conditions; 23% have 5 or more. MCCs are often addressed in primary care, where time pressures force a focus on medication and lab results rather than self-management skills. The primary purpose of this study is to investigate whether voice-activated "smart" technology increases adoption and sustains use of an evidence-based electronic health intervention (Elder Tree, or ET) for older adults with multiple chronic conditions, and thereby improves its potential to widely enhance quality of life and health outcomes. ET is an existing intervention providing tools, motivation, and support on a computer platform to help older adults manage their health. An Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ)-funded randomized controlled trial (RCT) found that ET improved quality of life and other factors among high users of primary care with multiple chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. However, many people did not use it extensively, which is a common problem with all web apps.
COVID-19 survivors commonly exhibit a marked extra-respiratory complication affecting the cardiac (arrhythmias and myocardial injury), renal (acute kidney injury), gastrointestinal, nervous (neuropathy, encephalopathy), endocrine and musculoskeletal (weakness, pain, and fatigue) systems. In this context, several studies have found that resistance training intervention promotes important health-related benefits, including cardiac function, compared to aerobic exercise training. Other exercise adaptations include increased skeletal muscle metabolism function, yet physio/psychological adaptations are known to be limited in COVID-19 survivors. Hence, given that resistance training intervention is implemented in a manner that is tolerable to the individual patient, it may be a potential beneficiary "personalized" rehabilitation treatment for patients with COVID-19 syndrome ambulatory. The "EXER-COVID Clinical Study" project aims at determining the role of personalized exercise intervention in the treatment of post-COVID-19 syndrome ambulatory patients.
Self-medication of pain by consuming alcohol and marijuana is common. However, the research regarding pain as a determinant for alcohol and marijuana use has relied on laboratory pain induction paradigms with limited clinical relevance. The study will assess demand for alcohol and marijuana before and after delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) induction in co-users. This will provide a clinically relevant, but time-limited, model for the effects of musculoskeletal pain on demand.
