Filter by:This study will confirm the safety and effectiveness of the Edwards Lifesciences SAPIEN XT Transcatheter Heart Valve (THV) System in patients with a dysfunctional right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT) conduit with a clinical indication for intervention in a post-market setting.
The purpose of this study is to determine if VF001-DP improves wound healing in chronic venous leg ulcers compared to standard care only.
This is a community-based cluster randomized control trial aimed to investigate the impact of lifestyle modification (diet, physical activity, alcohol drinking and smoking) on the development of dementia, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and cardiovascular disease in an intermediate risk population in mixed urban-rural areas of Ubon Ratchathani.
Pasta is an important example of a food which can lower the glycemic index (GI) of the diet, a property that has been exploited extensively in studies of low GI dietary patterns. Although low-GI dietary patterns have been shown to improve body weight, glycemic control and blood lipids, it is unclear whether pasta as part of low-GI dietary patterns will improve measures of global adiposity including body weight. The lack of high quality knowledge syntheses to support evidence-based dietary guidance of the cardiometabolic benefits of pasta represents an urgent call for stronger evidence. To improve evidence-based guidance for pasta recommendations, the investigators propose to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of controlled studies in humans to assess the effect of eating pasta as part of a low GI diet compared to other diets on measures of adiposity (body fatness) in humans. The systematic review process allows the combining of the results from many studies in order to arrive at a pooled estimate, similar to a weighted average, of the true effect. The investigators will be able to explore whether eating pasta as part of a low GI diet has different effects between men and women, in different age groups and in people with high or normal sugar. The findings of this proposed knowledge synthesis will help improve the health of Canadians through informing recommendations for the general public, as well as those at risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Animal studies have found that vitamin K-dependent proteins matrix Gla protein and osteocalcin beneficially influence lipid and glucose metabolism, respectively. However, this concept has not been tested in humans at risk for dyslipidemia and diabetes risk. Vitamin K supplementation presents an opportunity to test the hypothesized link between the vitamin K-dependent proteins and markers of lipid and glucose metabolism. The investigators will conduct an 8-week vitamin K intervention (to manipulate carboxylation of matrix Gla protein and osteocalcin) and determine its effects on markers of dyslipidemia and diabetes risk. Sixty obese children will be randomly allocated to either the control group receiving placebo or the low-dose (45 mcg/d) or high-dose group (90 mcg/d) receiving vitamin K (menaquinone-7).
The Bifurcation ABSORB OCT Trial is a prospective, randomized (1:1) evaluation of the efficacy and performance of single ABSORB everolimus eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold provisional strategy in the treatment of (a) coronary bifurcation lesion(s) in consecutive subjects with and without fenestration towards the side branch. Patients included in this study will be divided into three different cohorts: - Cohort A (patient 1-20): Angiographic FU with OCT at 12 months. - Cohort B (patient 21-40): Angiographic FU with OCT at 24 months. - Cohort C (patient 41-60): Angiographic FU with OCT at 36 months. All patients will also have telephone FU at 30 days, 12, 24 and 36 months. Inclusion of patients in the BISORB OCT trial stopped in November 2016 after safety concerns of the ABSORB BVS were reported. BISORB OCT included 3 patients, which were all included in the Academic Medical Center
The DuraGraft® Registry is a European registry of patients who have undergone CABG and whose vascular grafts have been treated with DuraGraft. All participating sites will be from countries in Europe. The DuraGraft Registry will collect pre-CABG, intraoperative and post-operative data, major post-CABG cardiovascular adverse events, health economic outcomes and patient reported quality of life over a period of 5 years.
This study will explore new ways of using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to evaluate pediatric patients with cardiovascular disease, congenital heart disease in patients of all ages, fetuses undergoing clinically indicated MR imaging.
Efforts to identify individuals at a higher risk for adverse cardiovascular outcomes focus on traditional risk factors, such as age, gender, smoking status, blood pressure, and cholesterol; however, this approach does not directly assess cardiovascular function and underestimates the risk of experiencing adverse cardiovascular outcomes in women. This prospective, observational trial will examine the ability of the Assessment of Large and Small Artery Elasticity for the Early Detection of Cardiovascular Disease screening protocol, a series of non-invasive procedures to identify middle-aged and older women who are at elevated risk for experiencing an adverse cardiovascular event in the five-year period after screening. The predictive value of the Assessment of Large and Small Artery Elasticity for the Early Detection of Cardiovascular Disease protocol will also be compared to the Framingham Risk Score to determine if one method has better sensitivity for estimating risk for an adverse cardiovascular outcome.
The overall objective of the proposed cluster randomized trial is to test whether implementation of protocol-based integrated care will improve CVD risk factors (glycated hemoglobin [HbA1C], systolic blood pressure [SBP], and LDL-cholesterol) over 18 months and reduce major CVD events (non-fatal stroke, non-fatal myocardial infarction, hospitalized heart failure, and CVD mortality) over 3 years among patients with type 2 diabetes and additional CVD risk factors or clinical CVD compared to usual team-based care in community clinics in Xiamen, China.
