NCT ID: NCT04795232 Completed - Clinical trials for Skeletal Muscle Damage

Recovery Kinetics Following Change of Direction Training

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study aims at investigating the recovery kinetics of skeletal muscle damage, neuromuscular fatigue and performance following a single change of direction (COD) training session in competitive soccer players. The impact of COD degrees will be also examined by comparing a 45o vs. 90o COD training session. Ten male soccer players will perform a COD45 [A single training session including 2x(10x ~27.6m) sprints with two 45o COD in each sprint], a COD90 [A single training session including 2x(10x ~21.2m) sprints with two 90o COD in each sprint] and a Control trial (No intervention included, only daily measurements) in randomized, repeated measures, crossover design. Assessments related to skeletal muscle damage, neuromuscular fatigue and performance will be performed prior to training session and daily for three consecutive days post-training, in each trial.

NCT ID: NCT04797637 Completed - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

Post-operative Patient Positioning Device for Improvement of Post-Operative Pain

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This paucity of evidence supporting or dissuading the use of postoperative abdominal support following cesarean section for the reduction of postoperative pain leaves important clinical questions unanswered. Additionally, there is an absence of long-term outcomes associated with the use of abdominal support devices. There remains a need for the development and implementation of nonpharmacologic methods for analgesia for women following cesarean sections, along with evidence-based recommendations regarding their use in postoperative patients. The ABBy (G-Squared Medical, Brentwood, TN) is an extended-wear panniculus retractor/tissue stabilizer that is intended for use postoperatively after abdominal procedure. It is placed directly onto patient skin, superior to a transverse incision, and is then used to elevate redundant tissues away from an incision or wound (https://www.gsquaredmedical.com/How-it-Works.html). The ABBy can be removed and replaced by patients and can be used for up to 10 days. This study aims to assess the effect of ABBy use on postoperative pain, pain medication requirement, and patient satisfaction, when used as a patient-positioning device in women following cesarean delivery.

NCT ID: NCT04797689 Completed - Clinical trials for Stress, Psychological

Managing Our Relationship With Food and Eating

NOURISH
Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

There is a need for population-level intervention research to address the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on disordered eating and unhealthy eating behaviours. Systematic reviews have demonstrated that psychotherapy and yoga can help to reduce binge eating and disordered eating habits, however, these interventions were tested in person. Studies examining the effectiveness of these interventions in an online, group-based format are warranted. In 2019, the investigators launched a RCT to test gender-stratified group interventions to address mental health and addictive behaviours among community-based adults in southern Alberta. The investigators implemented this intervention with more than 200 adults in person before this study was paused due to COVID-19; In 2020, the investigators adapted this intervention for online delivery to 200 community-dwelling women across Alberta. The most recent iteration of this study indicated the participants were particularly concerned about their relationship with food and how they were engaging in different eating behaviours to cope with the stress of COVID-19.

NCT ID: NCT04798846 Completed - Clinical trials for Distal Radius Fracture

Fixation of Comminuted Distal Radius Fracture

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

comparison between different methods in fixation of comminuted distal radius fractures

NCT ID: NCT04800848 Completed - Sedentary Behavior Clinical Trials

Effects of the Face Mask on Physical Fitness in Children

MaskFIT
Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim of this multicenter randomized crossover design study is to evaluate a sample of 500 boys and girls from public and private schools in the Principality of Asturias, aged between 6 and 12 years, with the objective of determining the level of physical condition, as well as to evaluate the effect of the use of FFP2/N95 face masks during the execution of the ALPHA Fitness battery, and the emotional effects caused by the use of these masks. This is a sample obtained by accessibility, in which the sampling will be stratified by age and academic year.

NCT ID: NCT04801212 Completed - Core Stability Clinical Trials

The Effects of Lumbar Stabilization Exercises With and Without Jaw Movements in Non-specific Low Back Pain.

Start date: April 1, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Core stability strength & coordination is necessary to perform smooth & coordinated upper & lower extremity movements & function. Altered core stability muscle strength, coordination & poor motor control can cause low back pain (LBP). Physical therapists especially those working with children having neurodevelopmental problems or adults with neurological disorders such as stroke are aware of the concepts of global movements. In this concept, alterations in one body segment may bring changes in other body segments. In neurological rehabilitation, the concept of Neuro-Developmental Technique (NDT) introduced by Bobath got worldwide recognition. This concept states that there are specific key points in the neck, & shoulders that can facilitate normal movements by enhancing the activity of core musculature in functional movements for instance, sit to stand & walking. This concept was further explored by Burnstein and suggested that biomechanically body joints and motor control works together as functional unit and not as single limb movement. Bobath and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) concepts further explained that movements of the eye, head and neck facilitate trunk movements. Electromyography studies have shown that both single and rhythmical jaw opening and closing movements not only produced well-coordinated jaw and head-neck movements but also produced atlanto-occipital and cervical spine joints movements. The author further concluded that mouth opening and closing in fetal yawning is associated with head extension-flexion movements indicating that functional connections between the jaw and head-neck is innate. A human jaw or masticatory system is connected to the motor system through cranial nerves unlike central motor system which is connected to the body through spinal motor system. Brainstem central pattern generator (CPG) control masticatory system through descending pathways and are involved in voluntary movements of the jaw such as mouth opening and closing. The higher brain centers cortical masticatory area and primary motor cortex control these movements. In the current back pain literature core stability exercises have been used in the management of chronic low back pain. The jaw is connected to the head-neck and neck is connected to the trunk. Therefore there is to study the effects of core stability exercises performed with and without jaw movements in the management of chronic low back pain.
