Hypoxemic acute respiratory failure is one of the main COVID-19 patients complication that lead to in intensive care hospitalization. This complication determines a variable mortality from 25 to 30%. To correct hypoxemia (often severe) is often needed non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation. Mechanical ventilation is not a therapeutic strategy, but it allows to extend the time-to-recovery necessary to solve COVID-19 respiratory failure cause. Calibration of ventilatory support is essential to ensure adequate time-to-recovery without contributing to onset lung and / or diaphragmatic damage. Basal diaphragmatic activity assessment, device for administering the oxygenation support choice and setting ventilatory support parameters are decisive. Ultrasound is the best method for measuring diaphragmatic work. The aim of this study is to evaluate the diaphragmatic thickening fraction in COVID-19 patients admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for acute respiratory failure and to record its function on weaning.
Presentation of procedural safety and outcomes data from a high volume TLE centre
Purpose of the study: to analyze the interlinks between serum 25(OH)D level and severity of new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in hospitalized patients, as well as the effect of adding colecaciferol to standard therapy for patients in the acute period of the disease. The study will involve at least 300 hospitalized patients with confirmed COVID-19. All study participants will be twice assessed for serum 25 (OH) D levels: baseline and 8-10 days of hospitalization. Following a baseline examination, patients will be randomized into 2 groups. Group I (No. 1), vitamin D therapy begins with a dosage of 50,000 IU in the first and second weeks. Group II (No. 2), vitamin D therapy is prescribed at a dosage of 2000 IU / day. On 8-10 days of vitamin D supplementation, all participants will be retested for serum 25 (OH) D levels to assess the effectiveness of therapy. On 14-21 days we assessed severity of the course, ICU hospitalization, duration of hospitalization, outcome of the disease, duration of glucocorticoid therapy, the need for specific therapy (inhibitors IL-6), changes in cytokine/chemokine, APPs concentration.
The aim of the study is estimating the predictive and preventative capability of thrombodynamics for severe pneumonia coagulopathy complications in patients with COVID-19 infection. Thrombodynamics test is a method for blood coagulation and anticoagulation monitoring. It could be a useful tool for predicting thrombohemorrhagic complications in patients with COVID-19 infection and developing a novel scheme of anticoagulant therapy. Inclusion criteria are the following: patient informed concern, confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis, state of modern or critical condition.

Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is the standard of care for high-risk patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) after transurethral tumor resection. Since 2012, global BCG shortage encouraged the search of alternative treatment for NMIBC treatment. Intravesical gemcitabine and docetaxel chemotherapy (GEM/DOCE) has shown safety and efficacy in 2 retrospective, single institution cohorts. At our institution, GEM/DOCE has been offered as an option for NMIBC in the treatment of high-risk BCG-naive patients per the protocol adapted from University of Iowa, in shortage situation. Our objective is to evaluate the efficacy of GEM/DOCE therapy.
Effective, brief, low-cost interventions for individuals who attempt suicide are needed to save lives and achieve the goals of the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. In response to a National Institute for Mental Health (NIMH) Notice of Interest, this time-sensitive proposal leverages an existing federal investment in Zero Suicide to test the effectiveness of a highly promising new treatment for recent suicide attempt survivors and learn how it works. If hypotheses are supported, the study will provide evidence of a brief, practical, and cost-effective therapy that reduces suicide reattempts in a real-world health setting.
Pregnancies conceived within 18 months of a prior delivery (termed short inter-pregnancy interval [IPI]) place mothers and infants at high risk for poor health outcomes and affect nearly one third of women in the U.S. Rates of postpartum (PP) contraception use remain low, particularly among low-income minority women, leading to high rates of short IPI pregnancies. This proposed study aims to address the gap in the current model of PP contraception care, by developing and implementing a novel approach to link (co-schedule) PP contraception care with newborn well-baby care with the goal of improving access to timely PP contraception.
Enhanced sports performance, in our current world, is being pushed at the professional level and down to school-age children as well. Money is being spent on lessons and equipment to enhance performance. One new method to enhance performance is stroboscopic vision goggles. The glasses lenses flicker removing visual information for a brief moment. The claim is that they train connections between the eyes, brain, and body. We want to see if this product truly does enhance visual performance during a softball season for high school girls.
The specific aims of this study are: In a randomized controlled trial, the investigators will evaluate the impact of daily egg consumption during the complementary feeding period in addition to the local standard of nutrition care (i.e., intervention group), compared to the local standard of nutrition care alone (i.e., control group) on the following outcomes, in infants that are ~6-month old at baseline: 1. Child development, as measured by global development scores (primary outcome) 2. Growth, as measured by anthropometrics (secondary outcome) 3. Diet quality, as measured by the World Health Organization infant and young child feeding indicators (secondary outcome) Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that daily consumption of eggs during the complementary feeding period, in addition to the local standard of nutrition care, will improve child development, growth, and diet quality compared to the local standard of care alone.
