Since the 2015 Montgomery vs Lanarkshire Health Board ruling, the consent process in the UK has had to change. In practice, this means that doctors must ask themselves whether the patient knows about the material risks of the treatment being proposed, alternatives to the treatment, and whether reasonable care has been taken to ensure the patient actually knows this. This study aims to determine patients' perspectives of consent for major cancer surgery in light of the Lanarkshire ruling.

Colorectal cancer is the most-common cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. The number of positive lymph nodes and total number of lymph nodes retrieved are important prognostic factors. In patients who do not receive preoperative chemoradiation, the total number of lymph nodes should be more than 12 nodes to predict accurate staging. In cases of locally-advanced rectal cancer when patients receive neoadjuvant chemoradiation it is sometimes impossible to retrieve adequate amount of lymph nodes due to the chemoradiation effect. Therefore, this study was to evaluate and predict survival rates based on positive lymph node ratio.

Childhood arthritis is an important cause of pain for affected children and youth (adolescents). Many youth with arthritis also have trouble sleeping. They often struggle to sleep through the night, wake up earlier, and are sleepier during the day compared to healthy children. Our research group, among others, has shown a strong link between sleep and pain. The main purpose of this study is to assess the impact of changing sleeping patterns on pain, and disease activity, in teenagers with arthritis. We think that better sleep will directly lead to better health.
