The dramatic increase in the use of e-cigarettes among U.S. adolescents has been called a national epidemic, with more adolescents now using e-cigarettes than traditional cigarettes. The high amounts of nicotine in e-cigarettes harm adolescents and put them at greater risk of becoming traditional cigarette smokers. The investigators propose to develop Vaper-to-Vaper (V2V), a suite of mobile peer driven tools including peer texting and coaching based on lessons learned in the investigators' prior tobacco intervention work, to engage and help adolescents use strategies to manage cravings and successfully quit.

Relation of Functional ındependence to Balance, Exercise Capacity, and Peripheral Muscle Strength

Stroke is one of the leading causes of death worldwide and is among the most important diseases that cause long-term disability in adults. In high-income countries, the incidence of stroke has decreased significantly with increased use of preventive therapies and control of risk factors. Stroke has a significant impact on individuals' independence and productivity. Walking capacity is limited due to motor control, balance, and muscle strength disorders after stroke. In addition, it was determined that the functional exercise capacity of stroke patients decreased when compared to healthy individuals of the same age. The quantitative decrease in muscle mass due to physical inactivity is accompanied by sarcopenia, which worsens the situation. Although the primary impairments affecting gait are muscle strength weakness and loss of coordination, impaired cardiorespiratory fitness can also affect walking performance by limiting endurance. Depending on the change in each parameter after stroke, the functional independence and daily living activities of individuals are affected. A correlation was found between balance and functional mobility and the level of functional independence in stroke patients. It has been found that having a good balance function after stroke significantly increases the likelihood of being functionally independent. When the studies in the literature were examined, no study was found that directly showed the relationship between functional exercise capacity and muscle strength in stroke patients. Therefore, in our study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between balance, functional exercise capacity, peripheral muscle strength, and functional independence level in stroke patients.

A Study To Assess Adverse Events and Effectiveness of Upadacitinib Oral Tablets in Adult and Adolescent Participants With Vitiligo

Vitiligo is a common chronic autoimmune disease that causes the body's immune system to attack its own pigment producing skin cells. This study is to evaluate how safe and effective upadacitinib is in participants with non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). Adverse effects and change in disease activity will be assessed. Upadacitinib is an approved drug for various immune-mediated inflammatory diseases and is currently being investigated for the treatment of NSV. There will be 2 replicate studies running at the same time. In Period A, participants are placed in 1 of 2 groups called treatment arms. Each group receives a different treatment. There is a 1 in 3 chance that participants will receive placebo and 2 in 3 chance participants will receive upadacitinib. In Period B, all participants will be in one treatment arm where they all receive upadacitinib. Approximately 270 adult and adolescent participants with NSV will be enrolled in each study (540 participants total) at approximately 90 sites worldwide. In Period A, participants will receive oral tablets of upadacitinib or placebo once a day for 48 weeks. In Period B, participants will receive oral tablets of upadacitinib 15 mg once a day for 112 weeks. Participants will be followed up for 30 days. There may be higher treatment burden for participants in this trial compared to their standard of care. Participants will attend regular visits during the study at a hospital or clinic. The effect of the treatment will be checked by medical assessments, blood tests, checking for side effects and completing questionnaires.

Optimizing Bilateral and Single-sided-deafness Cochlear Implants for Functioning in Complex Auditory Environments

Cochlear implants (CIs) are devices that partially restore hearing for people with severe to profound hearing loss. This research focuses on CI users who use bilaterally implanted devices (two CIs, one on each side) and also "single-sided deafness" (SSD) CI users who use one CI together with good acoustic hearing in their opposite ear. The goal is to measure and understand the impact of large input asymmetries across the two ears. These asymmetries are common in BI-CI listeners and always present in SSD-CI users. Although most CI listeners benefit from a second source of auditory input, this project measures how these asymmetries limit speech understanding and spatial hearing. The long-term goal is countering or compensating for input asymmetries. Electrophysiological measures are used to describe the health of the auditory system. Behavioral measures are used to assess if training improves performance. CT imaging is utilized to describe the placement of the CIs.

Collection of Blood and Urine From Patients Undergoing Radiation Therapy

Background: -Research in NCI's Radiation Oncology Branch depends on the availability of blood and urine samples from patients receiving radiation therapy. Objectives: -To explore the effects of radiation therapy on gene expression in white blood cells, to measure radiation damage in red blood cells and to examine changes in hormone levels in the blood and urine after radiation therapy. Eligibility: -Patients 18 years of age and older who are receiving radiation therapy. Design: - Blood and urine samples are collected when participants enter the study. - Additional samples may be collected at different times during and after treatment. Ideally, samples are obtained before, at the completion of, and 1 month following radiation therapy. Blood samples usually will be collected during routine patient monitoring procedures and will not require an additional needle stick. - A total of 300 patients will be studied at the NCI in Bethesda, MD, Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
