Cardiac rehabilitation is fundamental in the treatment of patients undergoing cardiac surgery regarding the educational, physical exercise and quality of life dimensions. Considering the competences of Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing and the current prevalence of risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease, it is essential to implement programs in this area. This study aims to assess the impact of Specialist Nurses in Rehabilitation Nursing interventions on a cardiac rehabilitation program during hospitalization (phase I) and 1 month after cardiac surgery (phase II), in around 30 patients of both sexes, between 25 and 64 years old, and according to the American Heart Association and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, met the criteria for low or moderate risk, class B for participation and exercise supervision, absence of signs/symptoms after cardiac surgery, with a left ventricular ejection fraction greater than 40%. Supervised interventions were performed during hospitalization, pre- and post-cardiac surgery, and 1 month after hospital discharge. In phase II, a physical exercise program was fulfilled according to the norms of the American College of Sports Medicine, comprising 3 sessions of physical exercise per week lasting between 30 to 60 minutes, including heating, aerobic exercise, and recovery/stretching. Hemodynamic data (blood pressure, heart rate, peripheral oxygen saturation) and the Borg scale were recorded in the initial, intermediate and final periods of each session. The aerobic capacity was evaluated through the 6-Minute Walk Test and health-related quality of life using the Short Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36V2) questionnaire.
The study design is a 2-arm randomized controlled trial with 6-month intervention period and follow-up at 6, 12 and 24 months among blue-color workers of Nokia City with reduced work ability and high number of musculoskeletal problems. The participants (n=190) will be randomly assigned to intervention-arm providing face-to-face Personalized Exercise Counseling combined with interactive accelerometer (PEC-arm) or a non-intervention Control-arm. The study aims at improving workability (main outcome) and reducing musculoskeletal pain by counseling and motivating the workers to increase physical activity and exercise according to self-selected modes. Exercise instructors of Nokia City are responsible for providing the face-to-face part of PEC. The Urho Kaleva Kekkonen (UKK) Institute is responsible for providing online feedback of the data collected by the interactive ExSed® accelerometer, stored and analyzed in the Cloud, from where the participants in the PEC-arm receive daily feedback thru a smart phone application. Cost-effectiveness of the PEC-intervention compared to the Control-arm in terms of quality adjusted life-years (QALY) and days of sickness absence are also investigated. The following measurements will be taken at baseline and the three follow-up timepoints: work-, health- and physical activity related factors collected by two electronic questionnaires, objective measurements of movement continuum (sleep, sedentary behavior, standing-ups, standing, light activity, moderate activity, vigorous activity) for 24/7 (RM42 research accelerometer), 3 tests of physical fitness and blood samples related to blood sugar and lipid profile.
Investigators research team conducted a previous human clinical trial of brown algae and conducted liver and metabolic indicators of brown algae to improve nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and found brown algae extract (LMF-HSFx, commodity In addition to reducing the liver function index, HbA1c in some patients with early stage diabetes or type 2 diabetes has an improved effect. In the mouse model of type 2 diabetes, comprehensive anti-hyperglycemia, anti-hyperlipidemia and hepatoprotective activity were studied using LMF-HSFx. Intake of LMF-HSFx reduced fasting blood glucose, increased adiponectin levels, reduced urine glucose, and improved hepatic glucose metabolism. LMF-HSFx can improve glucose and lipid metabolism in adipose tissue of diabetic mice, and inflammatory factors such as TNF-α and IL-6 can also be reduced. In this study, participants will be given Fuco-HiQ, and their effects on blood glucose and various metabolic indicators will be evaluated.
Diagnosis of intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA) is an increasingly common form of primary liver cancer, but patients with this diagnosis are not currently eligible for LT. This study proposes to offer LT as an option to patients with advanced, unresectable iCCA who demonstrate at least 6 months of disease stability /regression while receiving standard chemotherapy. Patients will be referred and screened for study participation if they have achieved 6 months of disease stability. They will be worked up for transplant and if eligible, will be listed. Disease must remain controlled while awaiting transplantation. After transplantation, patients will be followed for disease recurrence and overall survival, while receiving standard post-transplantation followup.
The focus of this study is to examine the effectiveness of imFREE relative to mHealth ED in facilitating treatment retention and adherence and reducing opioid use among adults with OUD initiating BUP treatment. There are two specific aims: (1) to test the effectiveness of imFREE, delivered in conjunction with medical management with buprenorphine (imFREE + MM), relative to mHealth ED + MM, in facilitating buprenorphine treatment retention and adherence in a population of individuals with OUD initiating MM (N=200). (2) To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of imFREE.
This is a Randomized controlled trial evaluating the effects of the use of Sterile HemaClear Tourniquet Below Calf Versus Pneumatic Tourniquet at the Thigh for Ankle and Foot Surgery The trial will randomize 60 patients into an experimental group with HemaClear or Active comparator group with Pneumatic Tourniquet. The outcomes are: effectiveness of the tourniquet, bleeding escapes, infection, deep vein thrombosis, pain at the tourniquet site, neurologic problems related to the tourniquet
After partial spinal cord injury, gait deficits may be present and often remain even after intensive rehabilitation. New robotic technologies have recently emerged to help augment the extent of rehabilitation. However, these are complex tools to integrate into clinical practice and little is known about the potential factors that may influence the uptake of a locomotor program using this technology by clinicians. The goal of this project is to bring together researchers, administrators, clinicians and patients to define and implement an overground robotized gait training program in clinic. We will also investigate the added value of leg and trunk muscle stimulation combined with robotic walking training, to see if it could enhance recovery.
This is a prospective, single-center, nonrandomized observational study to investigate the utility of urine lipoarabinomannan (LAM) as a test to identify individuals at very low risk for having a sputum culture positive for Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM). The study is designed to evaluate if a urine test can eliminate the need for obtaining a sputum specimen to screen for NTM in individuals with Cystic Fibrosis (CF). The participants will be asked to provide 3 urine samples either in person or by mail over approximately 3 years. The 3 urine sample requests will be timed to coincide with their usual clinical care and routine sputum collection.
Anxiety and depression disorders (ADD) have the highest overall prevalence rate among psychiatric disorders in young females. Its manifestations are disabling, distressing a substantial negative impact on the quality of life. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy and physical therapy on female students with mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
When dementia is caused by AD, we refer to it as dementia of the Alzheimer's Type (DAT). The greatest risk factor for Alzheimer's Disease (AD) and DAT is advancing age, but DAT is not a normal part of aging. Studies have shown that changes in the brain happen before full symptoms of DAT develop. These changes include a buildup of two proteins within the brain, called amyloid and tau. The two goals of this study are (1) to determine whether patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia-Alzheimer's type (DAT) are able to demonstrate decisional capacity to engage in PET amyloid and tau disclosure after receiving education; and (2) to assess how patients and care partners react to PET amyloid and tau biomarker disclosure.
