According to the WHO, therapeutic education is intended to help patients acquire or maintain the skills they need to optimally manage living with a chronic disease. Low back pain is frequent and therapeutic education could be a promising option. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the impact of a therapeutic education program for patients suffering from low back pain.
The primary aim of this study is to examine how different physical therapy interventions affect the resting state and contraction state of a certain abdominal muscle in patients with low back pain.
This study is a pilot, randomized controlled trial to provide feasibility and conduct preliminary analyses on physical (strength and stretch) mechanisms associated with a yoga intervention for non-specific chronic low back pain (cLBP). Recent large-scale trials have demonstrated the efficacy of a yoga intervention for cLBP however, many types of yoga classes are available to the public and a specialized yoga protocol for individuals with cLBP is needed. This study's goal is to quantify trunk strength and flexibility to better understand how these potential physical mechanisms specifically lead to improvement in pain-related outcomes including pain and disability. This knowledge will be used to design a large scale trial of mechanisms of yoga for cLBP. For this pilot study, 40 participants will be randomized to either a yoga intervention (N=20) or to a usual care group (N=20) that will receive The Back Pain Helpbook, a mind-body self-care program for better living. The yoga intervention will be offered weekly yoga classes and instructional materials will be provided for home practice.
This study propose analyze the effects of Kinesio Taping® in chronic nonspecific low back pain. All the subjects will be submitted to an evaluation of the painful sensation, functional performance, trunk range of motion and neuromuscular performance at three different times.
Clinical study to estimate the optimal frequency for stimulation of the spinal cord to achieve relief from back pain.
Background: Low back pain is a major public health problem that affects most people at some point in life, and results in major psychosocial, economic, functional and physical consequences that can last for days and months. Most cases are undiagnosed and become chronic non-specific low back pain. Studies showed that these patients presented changes in postural control, yet the information is inconsistent, as well as the effects of Functional Taping (FT). Objectives: The aim of this study will be to investigate the immediate and one-month follow-up effects of the use of Functional Taping to lumbar spine on pain intensity and postural control in patients with chronic nonspecific low back pain (CLBP). Methods: This study will be a sham-controlled and randomized clinical trial. Participants: One hundred and twenty participants (18 and 50 years) both genders. Interventions: Participants will be randomly allocated to receive three possible interventions: Functional Star-shape Taping, Sham Functional Taping (both interventions during seven days) and a Minimal Intervention (MI) (one session). Main outcome measures: Primary outcomes will be pain intensity and posturography to assess balance parameters. Low back pain related disability, global perceived effect of treatment and fear avoidance beliefs will be considered as secondary outcomes. Four measurements of static posturography will be conducted: pre-intervention, immediately after application of the tape, after seven days post-intervention (after removal of the tape) and after one month follow-up period. Secondary and primary outcomes will be assessed on three occasions: pre-intervention, seven days post-intervention and after one month follow-up period. All statistical analysis will be conducted following the principles of intention to treat, and the effects of treatment will be calculated using linear mixed models.
This study evaluates the effect of low level laser light therapy on reducing low back pain. Half of the participants will receive the actual treatment with the active laser and the other half of the participants will receive a placebo treatment with an inactive laser.
Effectiveness of a technique of dynamic massage therapy in the hamstrings in patients with nonspecific low back pain.
Chronic axial low back pain is a public health problem and has a high socioeconomic impact. The dorsal ganglion of the second spinal nerve (GDL2) is a cluster of neuronal bodies responsible for sensory afferent inputs from more than 80% of the lumbar region. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is proven effective to help relieve pain. Thus, the aim of this project is to determine the effect of LLLT on GDL2 when applied to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of chronic axial low back pain. Methodology: 45 patients will be randomized into three groups: laser, radiofrequency and local anesthetic. The patient will be positioned in a prone horizontal position under anesthetic monitoring. The intervertebral foramen between the second and third lumbar vertebrae will be accessed by percutaneous puncture guided by fluoroscopy. In the local anesthetic group, injection of 1 ml lidocaine without vasoconstrictor will be applied in the tubes G20, 150 mm long and 5 mm active tip in contact with the target. In the radiofrequency group, neuromodulation will be held for 300 seconds at 42oC. In the laser group, the laser Photon III® (DCM) will be applied through optic fiber crossing G18 cannulas, during 84 seconds. The pain score will be assessed by visual analog scale. Temperature will be measured and aspirate periganglionic sample, trans-operatively, to study Interleucins-1β and TNF-alpha assessed by ELISA and genetic evaluation trough RNA seek, RNA isolation and ATP quantification. The data will be evaluated for normality and subjected to appropriate statistical analysis, in order to seek representation, as same as the level of significance of the studied samples.
