A Study to Determine the Efficacy and Safety of Fasinumab for the Treatment of Adults With Chronic Low Back Pain

The main objective of the trial is to evaluate the efficacy of fasinumab compared to placebo as measured by the change from baseline in the average daily Low Back Pain Intensity (LBPI) Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). Secondary objectives of the study are to evaluate the efficacy of fasinumab compared to placebo as measured by: - Change from baseline in the Roland Morris disability questionnaire (RMDQ) total score - Change from baseline in the Patient Global Assessment (PGA) of Low Back Pain (LBP) score - Change from baseline in the average daily LBPI NRS score

Physiotherapy for Sciatica; Is Earlier Better?

This study aims to evaluate the whether receiving physiotherapy early after onset of the problem is better than waiting a few weeks to see if it gets better before starting physiotherapy. 80 people with sciatica will take part in the study, half of which will receive physiotherapy 2 weeks after seeing their G.P. The other half will receive physiotherapy at the usual time, around 6 weeks after seeing their G.P.

However, considerations on differences in health care and social systems across countries are required before taking steps towards any recommendations of implementing stratified care into other health care services. Objective To investigate the effectiveness of the stratified care model of the SBT, when embedded into the regional disease management programs on LBP in primary care as compared to current best practice care.

ZetrOZ's Ultrasonic Diathermy device is intended for use as a portable and wearable medical device which, when applied to various areas of the body applies Low Intensity Therapeutic Ultrasound (LITUS) to deep tissues. This device is FDA-cleared for pain reduction, treatment of muscle spasm and joint contracture, and increasing local circulation. This study will look at the use of therapeutic ultrasound to relieve pain and reduce disability in subjects with chronic low back pain, a subset of which will have chronic low back pain due to a herniated disc, over an 8-week treatment period.

Back Pain and Spinal Manipulation in Adolescent Scoliosis

Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) affects 2 - 3% of children and adolescents older than 10 years and is of unknown cause. It was initially thought that occurrences of back pain (BP) were similar to the one encounter in healthy adolescents. Recently, literature has shown that there is a two-fold prevalence of BP among AIS patients compared to healthy adolescents. As such, BP appears as a condition that might have a detrimental effect on the well-being of AIS patients and seems associated with increases in health care costs. Further, BP in adolescents would appear to be a predictive factor for adult BP. Is vertebral manipulation (VM) a viable alternative? Since 2006, four guidelines were in agreement as to the value of that approach with acute or chronic BP in adults. Unfortunately, no study was found in adolescents. The purpose of the study is to verify if VM is efficacious at improving AIS patients' back pain and to find out if it can help these patients to obtain a better quality of life and improve their spinal flexibility. Recruitment will take place at Ste Justine's hospital where patients will have 2 evaluations, conducted by an independent orthopaedist (baseline and 4 weeks). Patients will be allocated to either the experimental (VM) or the usual medical care group. Spinal manipulation treatment will last over a 4-week period. The study will be the first trial evaluating the efficacy of vertebral manipulation in adolescent idiopathic scoliosis patients with back pain. Finally, no other study was found on available and effective treatment regarding back pain management for this population. A well-structured trial is needed to provide clinicians with a better understanding and best evidence regarding treatment protocols.
