Filter by:The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Sarpogrelate in endothelial progenitor cells of patients with atherosclerosis.
The aim of this randomized double-blind study was to evaluate the effect of oral zinc and selenium supplementation on oxidative stress and inflammation biomarkers as well as the status of zinc and selenium in patients with atherosclerosis and angina stable treated with rosuvastatin. The hypotheses tested in this study were: Treatment with rosuvastatin impairs zinc and selenium status in patients with atherosclerosis and stable angina? Zinc and selenium supplementation, concomitantly with rosuvastatin, influences the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory as well as the status of minerals?
The investigators will be assessing the effect of Aged Garlic Extract on the coronary arteries. The investigators will enroll patients in a double blind study, where half the patients will receive placebo, and have the patients undergo a series of tests of plaque (CT scan of the heart, carotid ultrasound) and follow the patients on the drug or placebo and then repeat the tests and blood work at the end of one year. The investigators will assess if being on aged garlic extract adds any benefit to plaque in the coronary or neck arteries. The investigators will also assess the effect of aged garlic extract on markers of inflammation. Patients will receive free drug, free testing and be compensated, and learn more about their heart and neck arteries. if successful, more patients can use this drug to benefit their health. The harms include the radiation from the CT scan and the medication, which has mild side effects.
This study is to investigate the possible positive effects of lutein and lycopene supplementation on early atherosclerosis in Beijing.
The purpose of this study is to compare characteristics and safety after oral administration of G0041(75/100mg) 2 tablets with those of Clopidogrel 75mg 2 tablets & Aspirin 100mg 2 capsules coadministration in healthy male volunteers.
The main aims of this study are to determine whether: a) psoriasis patients with or without arthritis have more cardiovascular inflammation than healthy subjects and b)3 months of etanercept (enbrel) therapy (prescribed to psoriasis patients with or without arthritis by their treating clinicians) will decrease cardiovascular inflammation.
A prospective study of 700 patients with coronary artery disease will undergo non invasive evaluation of their carotid arteries by ultrasound and microwave radiometry. The patients will be followed up for 3 years and their outcome regarding the cardiovascular events (death, cardiac events, cerebrovascular events) will be recorded
This is a longitudinal observational study of HIV-infected patients and HIV-negative control patients that is being conducted to learn more about immunologic factors, inflammation, and cardiovascular risk in patients with HIV infection or in patients with autoimmune disease. The investigators plan to obtain measurement of carotid artery intima media thickness (IMT) using high resolution ultrasound as a noninvasive means for tracking atherosclerotic progression. The investigators will also measure lipid and lipoprotein levels, inflammatory markers, markers of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, thrombotic markers, atherogenic lipoproteins, and markers of immune function. Immunophenotyping will be performed on freshly collected blood and analyzed by flow cytometry to identify activated T-cells, T-cell turnover, proportions of T-cells, and CMV function. HIV-infected patients will have CD4 count and HIV viral load measured in addition. Patients will undergo detailed clinical history including HIV disease, specific HIV medications, comorbid conditions, and health related behaviors. Physical exam and measurements will be obtained to assess for the presence of lipodystrophy. Patients will undergo study visits for ultrasound, blood draw, and interview at 4-12 month intervals for the next 3 years. Patients will also go assessment of endothelial function, endothelial progenitor cells, arterial stiffness as measured using pulse wave tonometry. To demonstrate the feasibility of a larger scale investigation of cardiac arrhythmia in HIV positive and negative patients with cardiac disease, the investigators will use 48-hour Holter monitor surveillance to monitor HIV-infected and uninfected patients with a history of myocardial infarction, systolic left ventricular dysfunction, and/or pulmonary artery hypertension for the presence of cardiac arrhythmia. The FDG PET scan (18F-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography) will be used to detect and quantify inflammation in the body.
Background: - Advancing age is associated with greater risk of heart disease. High blood pressure and hardening of the arteries also have more complications with age. Studies suggest that age-related inflammation may affect fatty tissue in the body. If this fat develops in the muscles or around the heart, it may increase risks of heart disease. Researchers will study body composition in older adults to see if age-related changes in body fat are related to higher risks of heart disease. Objectives: - To study the relationship between fat deposits and aging, and greater risks of heart disease. Eligibility: - Participants in the Baltimore Longitudinal Study of Aging between 50 and 80 years of age. - Individuals between 50 and 80 years of age who have been diagnosed with coronary artery disease. Design: - Participants will be screened with a physical exam and medical history. - Participants will provide blood and urine samples. They will also have their height and weight measured. Waist circumference will also be taken. - Participants will have a DEXA scan to study their muscles. - Participants will have magnetic resonance imaging scans. These scans will study heart function and muscle and blood vessel health. - Participants with coronary artery disease will have catheterization. Blood samples will be collected during the procedure....
The medical device "Vascular Join" represents a new anastomotic technology that should reduce the inter-surgeons variability in anastomosis construction and increase the performances in terms of results. It allows a perfect mechanical anastomosis without suture, avoiding the disadvantages of operation length and difficulty of the act, thrombosis, clamping and embolism. The "Vascular Join" creates automatically the connection between the vein or prosthesis at both ends and bridging the artery while preventing the passage of the needle and suture through the vessel wall and clamping pressure. This makes it very easy to construct a vascular anastomosis using the endoscopic technique less traumatic for the patient, lessen the pain of the patient, thereby reducing health care costs by reducing the length of hospital stay. No part of the device is in contact with the patient's blood because the whole system remains in the thickness of the arterial wall and outside the vessel. Thus, the formation of intimal hyperplasia is greatly diminished and the risk of occlusion of the anastomosis is less than the currently available risk when a suture is used. This risk is shown by studies on animals in labs, with a mean follow up of 12 months. The Vascular Join creates a perfect congruence of anastomosed vessels because it allows a perfect match between each vascular tunic. The medical device Vascular Join has been designed in order to: - Reduce the suture time; - Reduce the risk of occlusion of vein after the surgical process; - Avoid the contact risk between the external material steel (surgical needle) and blood; - Standardize the quality of anastomoses independently of the skill of the surgeon.
