Pharmacists Improving Refugees' Adherence and Knowledge of Their Chronic Medications

This study is a randomized, controlled, single-blinded clinical study which conducted over six months (May to October 2016) in different Jordanian cities, where most of Syrian refugees reside. The primary aim of this study was to assess refugees' adherence and knowledge of their chronic medications, and impact of the medication management review (MMR) service delivered by a clinical pharmacist on their adherence and knowledge of their chronic medications three months following delivering the service. An informed consent form was signed by all participants who accepted to participate (n=106). Participants were then randomized into intervention and control groups. The first group would have received the medication management review service during the study period, while the to the other group directly after the study was completed (after three months' time). Two validated questionnaire were used in the study for assessment; adherence to medications questionnaire and Knowledge about chronic medications questionnaire. These questionnaire were filled by tha patients at baseline and follow up home visits.

Co-morbidity and Refractory Asthma - UK Severe Asthma Registry

A "Clinical Registry" is a database which contains clinical information about people with different medical conditions. They are used in many countries throughout the world to help medical teams to better understand specific diseases and improve the care and treatment of patients. The UK Severe Asthma Registry has been collecting data on patients attending Severe Asthma Clinics in the UK since 2007. After obtaining appropriate consent from patients to use their information, data is entered by the patient's own clinical team and it is kept up-to-date to follow clinical progress and response to treatments. Very strict controls are in place to make sure individuals cannot be identified from the Registry and all information available from the National Registry is anonymous. Apart from the local clinic team, occasionally trusted third parties will also be able to identify you, if required to do so, on a strict need-to-know basis. This is necessary to ensure that the Registry works efficiently, or as a part of a Research Project, previously approved by a Research Ethics Committee. Data from the Registry has a number of uses including judging which severe asthma treatments are of greater benefit, to identify different subgroups of severe asthma and trial new therapies and to provide information for planning future services for people with severe asthma. The use of any information from the UK Severe Asthma Registry requires approval of the Steering Committee which is made up of the refractory asthma specialists from across the UK and who will have access to data protection, legal and ethics expertise where necessary, to safeguard the use of data. If the Registry closes, data will be returned to the local clinic team if requested, otherwise it will be destroyed. Participation is entirely voluntary and patients can withdraw consent form the Registry at any time by informing their local clinical team. The Data Controller from the UK Severe Asthma Registry is Queen's University Belfast and the Data Processor is Dendrite Clinical Services Ltd which is a commercial provider of database and registry systems.

In this study, the study team will evaluate the interplay of biological and behavioral mechanisms explaining the relationship of PTSD with increase asthma morbidity and adapt and pilot test a novel intervention to improve outcomes of WTC workers.

Description of Characteristics, Such as Age, Previous and Concurrent Treatments, Associated Diseases, of Patients With Asthma Treated With Dupilumab (DUPIXENT)

Primary Objective: The primary objective of the study is to characterize patients initiating DUPIXENT for asthma in a real-world setting, with respect to their medical history, including asthma history and asthma treatment history, socio-demographic, biomarkers (including Fractional exhaled nitric oxide [FeNO]), and concomitant treatments for asthma. Secondary Objectives: The secondary objectives of the study are: - To characterize real-world use patterns of DUPIXENT for asthma (eg, most commonly used regimens, reason for initiation of new asthma treatments, concomitant therapies, treatment durations, and reasons for discontinuation and/or switching) - To assess the effectiveness of DUPIXENT in asthma patients in a real world setting (lung function improvement, exacerbation rate, asthma control) - To assess comorbid type 2 conditions (atopic/allergic) and patterns of use and effects of treatment in comorbid conditions in asthma patients treated with Dupixent - To collect data on HealthCare Resource Utilization (HCRU) - To collect safety data on study participants in the real-world setting.

Nation-wide Health Resource Consumption and Costs Associated With Mepolizumab

Currently, no study has addressed real-life data describing changes in health resource consumption and related costs attributable to mepolizumab treatment. The aim of the current study is to fill this knowledge gap by performing an exhaustive extraction of data for patients receiving mepolizumab in the French single-payer health care system. The change in real-life health-resource usage and costs observed for these patients would provide the first evidence that mepolizumab is changing the care landscape for eligible severe asthma patients. The overall objectives of this study are: (i) using the SNDS French national database, to identify a representative, nation-wide population of patients treated with mepolizumab with a follow-up period of at least 12 months, (ii) to describe the initial one-year changes in health resource use before and after the initiation of mepolizumab treatment and (iii) to estimate the change in associated costs for the first year of treatment. These initial data will additionally serve as a basis for the design of longer-term studies. Primary objective: To estimate the change in associated costs for the first year of treatment

COVID-19 Related Lung Ventilation and Perfusion Injury

Little is currently known about the immediate and long-term effect of COVID-19 on lung ventilation (delivery of air to the lungs) and lung perfusion (delivery of blood to the lungs). Some people who survive COVID-19 may have lung ventilation and/or perfusion injury that persists following COVID-19 recovery. This lung injury may be related to inflammation in the lung, breathlessness, exercise limitation and reduced quality of life. Therefore, towards the goal of understanding the effects of COVID-19 on lung health, the purpose of this study is to characterize and understand the clinical relevance of COVID-19 related lung ventilation and perfusion injury and associated inflammatory status, ≤4 weeks and 6-months following COVID-19 recovery in an asthmatic and healthy population. To do this, an asthmatic and healthy population who have, and have not, been previously diagnosed with COVID-19 will be studied.

A Study to Test if TEV-48574 is Effective in Relieving Asthma

The primary objective of the study is to evaluate the effect of TEV-48574 compared with placebo on loss of asthma control (LoAC) in adult participants with T2-low and non-T2 severe asthma uncontrolled on inhaled corticosteroids plus long-acting beta-agonists (ICS+LABA). The secondary efficacy objective is to evaluate the effect of TEV-48574 compared with placebo on a range of clinical measures of asthma control. The duration of participant participation in the study is planned to be up to approximately 30 weeks.

Non-coding RNAs Analysis of Eosinophil Subtypes in Asthma

Chronic airway inflammation rich in eosinophils is an important feature seen in asthma. Airway and blood eosinophilia is associated with increased rates of asthma exacerbations and more intense treatment. Recently, the existence of two distinct eosinophils subtypes was revealed-lung-resident eosinophils (rEOS), which maturate independently to interleukin (IL) 5, with the primary function to maintain tissue homeostasis, and inflammatory eosinophils (iEOS), which mature in IL-5-dependent manner and are mainly involved in immune responses. Eosinophils' effect on the airway remodeling in asthma depends not only on the activity but also by their viable number in the lungs. Blood iEOS infiltrate the airways mainly after the environmental stimulus like allergen and leave the airways with bronchial secretions. However, rEOS reside lung tissue for their entire lifetime regulating local immunity. Blood rEOS and iEOS ratio alters in asthma, compared with healthy controls. It is known that the predominant eosinophils subtype in allergic asthma are iEOS, while rEOS are basic subtype in severe eosinophilic asthma patients, moreover, they are different in adhesive properties and survivability as well. Distinct biological properties allows to speculate about their different functions in asthma, however, there are still little information. Data about differently expressed microRNA (miRNA) profiles in eosinophils in asthma suggests, that eosinophils subtypes can be distinct in non-coding RNA (ncRNA) - microRNA (miRNA), piwi-interacting RNA (piRNA) and long non-coding RNA (IncRNA) profiles that could describe their role in asthma pathogenesis and act as biomarkers to discern asthma phenotypes.

Cost Effectiveness Analysis of a Randomized Control Trial of q3h vs. q4h Albuterol as Discharge Criteria From the Hospital for Pediatric Asthma Exacerbations

Asthma is the most common chronic condition among children, and the third leading reason for hospitalization of children in the United States. It exerts a large healthcare burden on the US with estimated annual direct healthcare cost of approximately $50.1 billion with indirect costs of $5.9 billion. Asthma is characterized by airway inflammation and airway constriction. Albuterol and other betaagonists are first line standard of care for acute exacerbations and provide short acting smooth muscle relaxation and subsequent airway opening. The frequency of albuterol administration is dependent on the severity of the exacerbation. For hospitalized patients here at Children's Memorial Hermann (CMHH), patients may receive nebulized albuterol continuously or if the exacerbation is not as severe, receive albuterol intermittently. Intermittent albuterol frequency ranges from every two hour treatments, every three hour (q3h) treatments, or every four hour (q4h) treatments. As patients recover from their acute exacerbation, their frequency of albuterol administration is progressively titrated along this continuum. Expert consensus uses q4h albuterol as discharge criteria from the hospital. However, recent QI initiatives have studied the effect of q3h treatments as the discharge cutoff with no reported changes in safety or harm. There are no randomized controlled trials available. Furthermore, there are no economic evaluations available to see if costs saved by decreasing the length of hospital care are merely being shifted to subsequent clinic or emergency room care costs. The investigators aim to conduct a randomized control trial to compare q3h vs. q4h albuterol as hospital discharge criteria for patients admitted for acute asthma exacerbations. The investigators also propose to conduct a costeffectiveness analysis of the trial. If the hypothesis that q3h albuterol is safe and as effective as q4h albuterol as discharge criteria, the investigators would be able to argue for a new standard of care that is more cost effective for this very costly and common disease of children in the United States

Study to Assess the Safety and Efficacy of SelK2 on Airway Responses Following Allergen Challenge in Subjects With Asthma (Part 1) and in Subjects With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (Part 2)

This study has two parts. The main purpose of Part 1 of this study will be to examine how safe and effective two doses of SelK2 is on participants with mild asthma. Lung function and inflammatory cell numbers will be measured in response to the administration of an allergen (a compound to which the participant is allergic) into the lungs in the presence or absence of SelK2. Part 2 of this study will examine how safe and effective one dose of SelK2 is on participants with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Lung function and inflammatory cell numbers will be measured in COPD patients in the presence or absence of SelK2. SelK2 may block the movement of key inflammatory cells into the lungs and consequently improve lung function in these two patient populations.
