Community-based Cognitive Remediation and tDCS to Enhance Seniors' Function and Mental Health

Focusing on seniors with mental health conditions who are living in the community, this initiative proposes to assess the acute and long-term effects of an 8-week course of daily (5 days/week) cognitive remediation (CR) training among 270 participants living in five LOFT senior housing units. The acute course of CR will be followed by monthly one-week boosters until the end of this 5-year study, totaling approximately 24-60 months of follow-up. This trial will also be used as a platform to explore the ability to use transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) to optimize response to CR by participant randomization to active versus sham tDCS. Our ultimate goal is to improve the lives of seniors experiencing mental illness and shape a future where they can live independently.

The function of injectable fillers for the treatment of dermal contour deformities is to smooth dermal depressions formed by the loss of volume. These fillers (also known as soft tissue augmentation devices) can restore the age-related volume loss of the face, balance the disproportions or correct topographical anomalies. A previous study has already shown the efficacy of Art Filler Volume on the midface, but this study was not comparative. It was thus interesting to compare the efficacy of Art Filler Volume to a reference product but also to test its efficacy on other areas including the temple, jaw-line and chin.

Multi-target Dietary Supplement Tolerability in an Aging Population (MTDSST)

This study is being performed to determine if a multi-ingredient dietary supplement is safe and easy to take by healthy older adults. Participants will be required to take one of three different doses of the dietary supplement for 90 consecutive days and complete wellness surveys and a daily log while taking the supplement. Participants will also provide blood samples at the start of the study, after 30 days, and at the end of the study which will help determine how participants respond to the supplement.

Optimal Dog Visits

The aim of this project is to study how an the intensity of dog contact during dog visits in nursing homes can affect the immediate response to, and the general effect of the visits, and whether the residents' level of cognitive impairment affects the response and benefit of dog visits. The participants are randomly assigned to receive one type of visits (12 visits in total) out of three possible visit types (1: visit with a dog; 2: visit with a dog, including a planned activity, 3 visit without a dog, including a planned activity). The residents received 2 visits per week for 6 weeks. The behaviour of the participants during visits is recorded. Before and after the intervention period, participants are scores on psychometric scales for cognitive impairment level, daily function level and symptoms of depression.
