Filter by:Chikungunya is an infectious disease caused by an alphavirus transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes which has known a worldwide expansion since its re-emergence in 2004. Regarding to an unprecedented epidemic, Reunionese pediatricians described in 2005-2006 a vertical maternal-fetal transmission of this virus, at the time of childbirth. Since then, this mode of transmission has been widely confirmed, with an absolute risk estimated between 15.5% and 48.3%. The main consequences for the child are neuromotor, neurosensory or neurocognitive. They were studied around the age of 2 in 33 children in the CHIMERE cohort, as well as at the age of 5 in a small fraction of these children followed at the C.A.M.S.P (Center for Early Medico-Social Action). The results suggested an overall delay in psychomotor acquisitions secondary to neonatal infection, affecting the functions of the prefrontal region (in particular coordination and language). Performance was correlated with the severity of the clinical presentation (more severe in case of encephalitis or encephalopathy) while remaining suboptimal in children with uncomplicated infection. During neurodevelopmental monitoring, other disturbing traits complemented the spectrum of problems presented by these children, such as microcephaly, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, interaction disorder or attention deficit disorder. At around age 10, the investigators reassessed 21 of these children using the Childhood Cognitive Function and Learning (EDA) screening test. The investigators would now like to confirm and characterize their impairments using a battery of confirmatory tests around the age of 13.
This study evaluates an investigational vaccine that is designed to protect humans against infection with respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and is administered as a nasal spray. Specifically, the study analyzes the safety of, and the immune response to, the vaccine when administered to healthy children between the ages of 6 and 24 months who are seronegative to RSV.
Ebola virus disease (EVD) is a serious illness with a high fatality rate. Currently only one vaccine is available, VSV-ZEBOV/Ervebo; this vaccine is clinically effective and has been deployed as a preventive measure during recent Ebola outbreaks. The durability of protection afforded by this vaccine is unknown, however, and it is thought that a booster vaccination may be required to maintain immune responses. Recently, a synthetic DNA vaccine, INO-4201, was tested in humans and showed good immunogenicity and an enhanced safety profile. This study aims to test whether the DNA-based candidate INO-4201 can be used as a booster in healthy volunteers previously vaccinated with VSV-ZEBOV.
The aim of the research is to estimate the levels of cellular and humoral immunity to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) among Moscow residents over 18 years old. During the study, participants will be divided into four groups: healthy volunteers; individuals recovered from coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) with different severity; individuals vaccinated against SARS-CoV-2; individuals who have had COVID-19 concomitantly with comorbidities that characterized by the impact on the immune system (tuberculosis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, HIV infection, hematological neoplasia). For all participants included into the study peripheral blood will be collected and the titers of SARS-CoV-2 specific immunoglobulins M (IgM) and immunoglobulins G (IgG), frequencies of the T cells specific to nucleocapsid (N), membrane (M), and spike (S) proteins of SARS-CoV-2 in peripheral blood, as well as the fractions of virus specific T helpers and cytotoxic T cells will be estimated. For smaller cohorts of the participants in all groups the antibody titers and T cell response levels will be examined in dynamics. All participants will be monitored for the incidence of primary or repeated COVID-19 for 1-2 years after inclusion in the study. Based on the results of the study, the relationship between the formation of humoral and cellular immunity against COVID-19, the duration of these types of immunity, as well as their individual contribution to protection against primary or secondary SARS-CoV-2 infection will be analyzed. Additionally, data concerning patients recovered from COVID-19 and having concomitant diseases will provide a valuable information that may help to understand in more details the mechanisms of the development of the SARS-CoV-2 specific immune response.
Zinc and green tea supplementation have both been independently studied for supporting immune health during cold and flu-like illness in non-hospitalized patients with clinical trials demonstrating promising but inconsistent results. Combination therapy may offer an improved effect as the antioxidant compounds found in green tea have been shown to increase cellular zinc concentrations thereby inhibiting viral replication. This study seeks to evaluate the effect of combination supplementation using established doses of zinc and green tea extract on symptom duration and severity from cold and flu-like illness, including COVID-19, in adult community patients enrolled in a randomized placebo-controlled trial.
The objectives of this study are to evaluate efficacy and safety of longan extract spray (P80 spray) in volunteers with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID19).Patients who infected COVID 19 (positive COVID 19 RT-PCR from nasal swab) are enrolled in the study. They will be treated with standard treatment of COVID 19. In addition, the patients will received longan extract nasal spray (P80 spray) or placebo nasal spray for 3 days (6 times). After that, they will be nasal swabbed for detecting COVID 19 infection. Adverse event will also be evaluated by physician or nurse.

This is a multicentre, randomized, observer-blind, active-controlled, superiority, study in adults to compare the immunogenicity of VLA2001 to AZD1222 in terms of GMT of SARS-CoV-2-specific neutralising antibodies. Furthermore, VLA2001 will be compared to placebo in an adolescent population.
Patients with a respiratory disease are at higher risk of poor outcomes due to worsening of symptoms caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and other respiratory infections. New therapies are needed for treating high risk patients at early stages of an infection. This study will assess the safety, tolerability and feasibility of using an inhaled nitric oxide generating solution, RESP301, as a self-administered treatment following flare-up of symptoms. RESP301 is a liquid solution which produces nitric oxide in the lungs when inhaled using a nebuliser. The components of RESP301 are already used in clinical practice and inhaled nitric oxide is used as a treatment for newborns and patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). In a laboratory setting, RESP301 has been shown to be effective against respiratory viruses, including SARS-CoV-2. This study will first determine the maximum tolerated dose of RESP301 in up to 48 adult patients with COPD or bronchiectasis in the United Kingdom (UK) (Part 1a; Dose Finding Phase). Once the Maximum Tolerated Dose (MTD) has been determined in Part 1a, a cohort of 8 patients will be recruited and RESP301 administered at the MTD but these patients will in addition receive a single dose of a short acting bronchodilator 10 minutes preceding administration of RESP301. After completion of Part 1, approximately 150 patients will be recruited into Part 2 of the trial (Expansion Phase). A minimum of 50 participants will receive a test dose of RESP301 during a screening visit. Response to the test dose will be monitored. Participants who tolerate the test dose will continue in the study and should contact the study team if they experience exacerbation symptoms in the next 52 weeks. Following a call with the site team to discuss symptoms, participants will receive RESP301 delivered to their home to self-administer for 7 days. The study duration for each participant will be at most 57 weeks, including the study visit and monthly calls. Participants who start the course of study treatment, will receive daily calls during the treatment period and will also be followed up after they complete the treatment.
This is a phase 2 study in which participants with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection will receive VIR-2218, VIR-3434 and/or PEG-IFNα and be assessed for safety, tolerability, and efficacy
