Weight Loss Referral for Healthier Survivorship in Obese Stage I-II Endometrial Cancer Survivors or Atypical Hyperplasia

This pilot clinical trial studies whether obese stage I-II endometrial cancer survivors or patients with atypical hyperplasia (abnormal cells in the lining of the uterus) would go see a weight loss specialist if it was recommended by their cancer doctor. Excess body weight or obesity is one of the most common contributors to (causes of) endometrial cancer. Over two-thirds of women who have survived endometrial cancer are obese. Complications of obesity, such as heart disease are often more dangerous than the cancer itself. A weight loss of even 5-10% of excess body weight is associated with improved health. Often, meeting with a doctor or person who is an expert in weight loss (bariatric specialist) is the best way to lose weight and keep it off. Endometrial cancer survivors or patients with atypical hyperplasia who go see a weight loss specialist recommended by their doctor may be able to achieve a healthier body weight.

Hysteroscopy today is considered the gold standard for the diagnosis and treatment of endometrial polyps. In recent years we have used the bipolar energy for resection of polyps by hysteroscopy, becoming a routine clinical practice and universally accepted. Resection of endometrial polyps laser energy has recently begun to be used with satisfactory results, so studies are needed to analyze these results and compare it with the usual techniques . This time in advance of medicine, it is appropriate to introduce minimally invasive procedures , allowing resection of endometrial polyps on an outpatient basis without anesthesia and acceptable to most patients. These procedures assume a lower cost and are associated with a lower surgical risk due to their realization without anesthesia . Hypothesis: Resection of polyps outpatient laser diode has a similar or superior to that of the bipolar electrode tolerability. The diode laser is a viable , quick , simple technique with a high percentage of resection and high degree of satisfaction of patients

Oral Iron vs. Placebo in Newly Diagnosed Gynecologic Oncology Patients Who Are Surgical Candidates.

The prevalence of anemia in gynecologic oncology new patients has been seen in previous studies to be as high as 35-59%. this population includes women with several types of gynecologic malignancies. Therefore, it is assumed that the origin of the anemia can be due to anemia of chronic disease and iron deficiency anemia. No previous studies have looked at the efficacy of oral iron supplementation with concurrent Vitamin C in women with newly diagnosed gynecologic malignancies. Hypothesis: In newly diagnosed gynecologic oncology patients who are surgical candidates does treatment with 3-6 weeks of oral ferrous fumarate 300 mg once a day improve the mean change in hemoglobin levels, from baseline to pre-operative, in comparison to placebo.

Counseling may reduce anxiety and insomnia as well as improve the well-being and quality of life of cancer survivors. This study also explores the neuro-immunologic correlates of anxiety and insomnia.
