To date, there is no vaccine or treatment with proven efficiency against COVID-19, and the transmissibility of the SARS-CoV-2 virus can be inferred by its identification in the oro-nasopharynx. The bacillus Calmette Guérin (BCG) has the potential for cross-protection against viral infections. This study evaluates the impact of previous (priming effect, from the titer of anti-BCG interferon-gamma) or current BCG exposure (boost with intradermal vaccine) on 1) clinical evolution of COVID-19; 2) elimination of SARS-CoV-2 at different times and disease phenotypes; and 3) seroconversion rate and titration (anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgA, IgM, and IgG).
This study is a retrospective cohort study. The purpose of this study is to investigate clinical features of the patients with the cavitary pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and endobronchial TB from the patients who have been registered in this hospital for treatment and follow-up, as part of the "PPM Project (Private-Public Mix project) for Korean National Tuberculosis Control" introduced in Korea since 2007.
This is a single-center, open label study. The primary aim of this project is to develop a controlled human malaria infection transmission model ("CHMI-trans") or "challenge model" to evaluate the capacity of vaccines, biologics (monoclonal antibodies, or mAbs), and drugs to block malaria parasite transmission by assessing infectiousness of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) gametocyte carriers for Anopheles mosquitoes.
This is a prospective observational laboratory evaluation of the persistence rate of zika virus (ZIKV) infection in semen by real-time Reverse Transcriptase Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR), and assessment of ZIKV replication-competence in semen by isolation of ZIKV. Evaluation of the persistence of ZIKV and its replication-competence in semen samples will increase the understanding of the risk of sexual transmission of ZIKV infection in the post-viremic phase in non-epidemic settings.
HBV can be transmitted from mother-to-child, with a risk increasing according to maternal HBV DNA during pregnancy. HDV is a defective virus using HBs Ag for its own replication.
