Filter by:The main objective of the study is to assess the trend of clinicopathological features and treatment modalities in patients with thyroid cancer in the largest oncology center in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The study aimed to determine the best intervention between Core biopsy and Fine needle aspiration in diagnosis of thyroid malignancy.
Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is the most commonly observed inflammatory and autoimmune disease of the thyroid gland. Many genetic and environmental factors play a role in the pathogenesis of the disease, including iodine exposure, drugs, chemicals, toxins, infections and smoking. In recent years, the relationship between oxidative stress level and thyroid autoantibodies in HT has attracted increasing attention of researchers. In the studies, it has been reported that oxidative stress levels may increase due to chronic inflammation, insufficient thyroid hormone levels, excessive autoimmune response and excessive iodine intake. Data from clinical studies clearly show that the balance between oxidants and antioxidants shifts towards the oxidative side in patients with autoimmune thyroiditis, suggesting that oxidative stress may be a key event in the pathophysiology of the disease, independent of thyroid function. Recent evidence has suggested that low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can improve thyroid function and reduce levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) in patients with hypothyroidism caused by chronic autoimmune thyroiditis. In the literature, data examining the effects of LLLT on oxidative stress level and quality of life in patients with HT is limited. As far as we know, it will be the first study examining the effect of LLLT on oxidative stress, fatigue and quality of life in cases diagnosed with HT. The aim of the study is to examine the effects of LT4 treatment combined with LLLT on thyroid autoimmunity, oxidative stress, fatigue and quality of life in patients with Hashimoto's diagnosis.
In this cross-sectional comparative study, it is aimed to investigate the topographic measurements, aberrometrics and densitometrics values of corneas in hypothyroid and hyperthyroid patients compared to healthy individuals. A number of 20 hypothyroid patients (group I), 20 hyperthyroid patients (group II), and 20 age-matched healthy controls (group III) have been recruited. The Pentacam high resolution imaging system is used to determine corneal topographic measurements, aberrometry and densitometry.
Total thyroidectomy for benign surgical pathologies is associated with risks related to temporary hypocalcaemia and vocal quality dysfunction. Dexamethasone, as an anti-inflammatory steroid, has been proposed to have a physiological effect on hypocalcaemia and voice quality. Investigators conducted a double-blinded controlled trial to assess the effect of preoperative dexamethasone on the vocal dysfunction and hypocalcaemia following thyroidectomy
Monocentric study for the evaluation of a whole body CZT scintigraphy system.
The aim of the study is to assess the relationship between the concentration of bisphenol A in serum and selected parameters of thyroid function in women of reproductive age with thyroid dysfunction - Hashimoto's disease and Graves' disease.
COVID-19 infection causes a hypersensitive immune reaction and widespread inflammation through cytokines in various organs of the body, especially the lungs. This cytokine-mediated widespread inflammation can also affect the thyroid gland, causing thyroiditis and impaired thyroid functions. The researchers evaluated thyroid function tests and thyroid autoantibodies in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 infection. Researchers excluded patients on intensive care therapy and patients with known thyroid disease. The researchers examined the relationship of thyroid hormones and thyroid autoantibodies to COVID-19 disease, white blood cells, neutrophil / lymphocyte ratio, c reactive protein, fibrinogen, procalcitonin, ferritin, and D-dimer stages in these patients. Researchers compared changes in thyroid hormones and autoantibodies in people without COVID-19 infection and without thyroid disease.
Introduction-Objective: The application of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy vestibular approach (TOETVA) is gradually increasing recently. However, it is not clear whether TOETVA is a true minimally invasive thyroidectomy compared to open conventional thyroidectomy. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the TOETVA and open conventional thyroidectomy techniques in terms of postoperative inflammatory response, pain and patient satisfaction. Material and Method: In this prospective study, 40 female patients between the ages of 18-65 were divided into 2 groups of 20 patients: TOETVA: 20 patients, open thyroidectomy: 20 patients. Operation time, inflammatory response with IL-6, white blood cell (WBC) and C-reactive protein (CRP), postoperative pain, postoperative complications and patient satisfaction were evaluated in both groups.
Italy has been on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, the need to focus resources to deal with the pandemic led to a disruption of routine surgical care, as well as activity for oncologic and chronic disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on surgical activity of the Italian Units of Endocrine Surgery belonging to the SIUEC (Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery), the most important national scientific society of endocrine surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on surgical activity of the Italian Units of Endocrine Surgery belonging to the SIUEC (Italian Society of Endocrine Surgery), the most important national scientific society of endocrine surgery.
