Filter by:The design of our study is a randomized, controlled, double-blind study. It is planned to be completed in twenty-four weeks with 34 participants. The main purpose of this study is to examine and compare the acute effects of two different kinesio tape applications on the carpal tunnel in patients with carpal tunnel syndrome by ultrasonographic method.
Liver abnormalities are common in Turner syndrome. The physiopathology of these abnormalities is unknown for the moment but their potentially serious evolution requires additional explorations.
Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a rare vascular genetic disorder (estimated prevalence 1/25,000-1/100,000) due primarily to mutations in the Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) cytokine receptor 1 and 2 genes. In addition to a common vascular phenotype with Marfan syndrome (dilatation of the ascending aorta, arachnodactyly, lens dislocation), patients present specific malformations (bifid uvula, hypertelorism, tortuous arteries) and immuno-allergic manifestations (asthma, eczema, food allergy, eosinophilic esophagitis, chronic inflammatory bowel disease). Pathophysiologically, LDS appears to be associated with hyperactivation of the intracellular TGF-β signaling pathway in a manner similar to Marfan syndrome, as evidenced by increased intracellular phosphorylated Smad2/3 (pSmad2/3) in lymphocytes. The immuno-allergic complications appear paradoxical because of the major immunosuppressive role of this cytokine on lymphoid and myeloid immune lineages. The biological description of immunological abnormalities associated with LDS is based on a single 2013 study that found increased regulatory T (Treg) and Th2 lymphocyte polarizations, as well as increased circulating eosinophil and total IgE levels. In order to better understand the underlying mechanisms, the investigators propose to perform a descriptive clinical-biological study to identify and study the immune subpopulations most impacted by the causative mutations of LDS.
The multidimensional self-management intervention program focusing on healthy dietary habit and exercise effectively prevents metabolic syndrome. Thus, the purpose of this study was to assess the efficacy of multidimensional self-management intervention program on metabolic syndrome subjects in Taiwan.
Introduction: the management of Patellofemoral Pain (PFP) is focused on therapeutic exercise (TE) to improve muscle strength and motor control. Recent studies suggest that the addition of radiofrequency diathermy (RFD) obtain greater short-term improvements in knee pain than TE alone. As there is no follow up data, the aim of this research is to assess the long-term effects of adding RFD to TE on pain, function and quality of life on PFP patients. Methods: a single-blind randomized controlled trial will be conducted. Participants diagnosed of PFP will be allocated in either a TE group or a RFD+TE one. Sociodemographic data, knee pain, and lower limb function will be collected. Each group will performed 20 min of daily knee and hip supervised TE along three weeks with the addition of ten sessions of RFD for the RFD+TE group.
The main objective of this study is to compare the complete section of the transverse carpal ligament with another median nerve release technique and to determine if the incidence of post-surgical pillar pain is lower for either of the two surgical techniques. As secondary objectives, we also seek to determine if the postsurgical grip and pincer strength and the Boston Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire (BCTQ) score are better for either of the two surgical techniques.
Artemisinin has been widely used as a first-line antimalarial drug in routine clinical practice. In recent years, it has been reported that Artemisinin also has some significant anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor and immune-modulating effects. The investigators' previous studies discovered that Artemisinin dramatically reduced serum androgen levels and improved poly-cystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) in animals. Preliminary study by the investigators found that artemisinin derivatives are capable of reducing both androgen levels and improving insulin resistance, two clinical characteristics of PCOS. Thus artemisinin derivatives has the potential effect to alleviate PCOS symptoms. The current study aims to investigate the effect of artemisinin on improving PCOS and serum androgen levels in PCOS subjects.
The aim of the study was to compare the efficacy of vaginal biorevitalization to improve the genitourinary syndrome of menopause (GSM) between the gold-standard treatment with local estrogen-based hormone therapy versus local salmon polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) therapy.
Considering that PI-IBS is brought on by infection and gut microbiota may be associated with the onset of symptoms, the modification of altered gut microbiota with nonabsorbable antibiotics such as rifaximin-α or probiotics is often employed as first-stage treatment. Research in recent years has also shown the potential benefits of fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) for IBS, which is the replacement of a sick recipient's gut microbiota with fecal material from a healthy donor. Even though the only officially approved indication for FMT at this time is recurrent Clostridium difficile infection, the effectiveness of FMT is nevertheless being studied for the treatment of other gastrointestinal and non-gastrointestinal pathologies including IBS. To date, several controlled and uncontrolled studies have been conducted to study the effectiveness of FMT for IBS, and most of them have demonstrated positive results. The investigators have not come across studies devoted to the study of the effectiveness of FMT in patients with PI-IBS in the available literature. So, the aim of the current study was to conduct single-centre, randomized clinical trial to assess the safety, clinical and microbiological efficacy of FMT in patients with PI-IBS.
The purpose for doing this study is to determine that whether use of Power Ball in form of resistance training will be effective in increasing grip strength in carpel tunnel syndrome patient and possible benefits of the regime as effective means of rehabilitation for wrist and hand injuries. Moreover for increasing grip strength it can be used as an adjunct for physical therapy treatment.
