Filter by:Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disorder characterized by glandular and extra-glandular manifestations. It is called primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) in absence of another connective tissue disease. The hallmark symptoms of pSS are dry eyes and dry mouth due to the decreased lacrimal and salivary gland functions. However, other tissue and organs may also be involved which precede such as xerotrachea in upper airway, atrophic gastritis and pancreatitis in gastrointestinal tract, and dryness in vaginal mucosa. Regarding to the genital involvement in pSS, vaginal dryness and resultant vaginal discomfort, and pain are reported as the common complaints. The transudate released by vaginal mucosa is the main resource of vaginal secretions. The human microbiome was reported to have a potential impact in etiopathogenesis of certain autoimmune disorders. The previous research revealed significant alterations in the gut, eye, and oral flora of the pSS patients. The disturbed oral flora due to immunodeficiency and reduced salivary flow was also reported to make the SS patients to prone to bacterial infections and recurrent oral candidiasis. Vaginitis has been defined as a spectrum of symptoms suggesting vulvovaginal discomfort such as itching, burning, irritation, and abnormal discharge. Even the vaginitis is an evidence of disturbance in vaginal flora, previous prospective research on vaginal microbiome of pSS patients either excluded the cases with vaginitis or not mentioned from the presence of vaginitis in women with pSS. To the best of our knowledge, there has not been any study yet to define the characteristics of vaginal flora through the presence of clinical signs and symptoms in women with pSS. To gain more insight into the clinical context of the gynecologic complaints, sexual dysfunction, and presence of vaginitis in pSS, the current study aims to identify the associations between these issues and pSS related disease parameters.
Myofascial pain syndrome (MAS) is defined as a regional painful syndrome characterized by pain and tenderness in a muscle group or a muscle, a taut band within the muscle, pain reflected by pressing, and the presence of trigger points. It causes localized muscle pain in the shoulder and neck. The frequency of mas is around 12% in the normal population, and its frequency increases in those with chronic diseases. It is more common in the 30-60 age range and in the female population. Mechanical causes such as micro-macro trauma, nociceptive disorders, physical fatigue, psychological stress and genetic factors are blamed in its etiopathogenesis. Painful myofascial trigger points may occur by pressing on all muscles in the body, although it is more common in the trazius muscle, especially in those who work at a desk, who are constantly in a certain position, and who are sedentary. Myofascial trigger points are often detected by examination.
This research was planned as a randomized controlled experimental study in order to reduce premenstrual syndrome symptoms of women with premenstrual syndrome.
Metabolic syndrome is common in patients of schizophrenia. It can add to morbidity, loss of functionality and discontinuation of antipsychotic medication. Apart from metformin, there are limited treatment options as add on-s to antipsychotics for treatment of metabolic syndrome. There have been placebo-controlled studies of Topiramate as an adjuvant but the present study would be the first head-on trial between these drugs for treatment of metabolic syndrome in patients of schizophrenia. If the outcome measures show a significant improvement with add on topiramate when compared with Metformin, then add on Topiramate can be a preferred treatment for metabolic syndrome in patients with schizophrenia on atypical antipsychotics. The adverse effects of Metformin can be side-stepped and Topiramate can also be given in conditions which are contraindications for Metformin. Thus, Topiramate can be a good alternative to metformin especially in conditions like liver, cardiac and renal impairment where metformin use should be avoided. Topiramate can not only improve metabolic parameters but can also have a beneficial effect on the symptom severity of schizophrenia. Thus, it can be a good augmentation drug to be used along with antipsychotics in these patients.
Piriformis syndrome is pain that extends from the hip to the knee, caused by the pressure of the piriformis muscle in the hip on the sciatic nerve. There is no valid protocol for the treatment of this syndrome. Physiotherapists generally use hip strengthening exercises and modalities for pain. In this study, in addition to the classical treatment, we will give two different programs consisting of self-myofascial relaxation and stretching exercises to two different groups for 4 weeks as home exercise. We will question the level of pain that people felt in the hip before starting the exercises and at the 4th week after starting the exercises and measured the hip joint range of motion.
The incidence of postreperfusion syndrome (PRS) and vasoplegic syndrome (VS) is unknown, and occasionally can be confused since these syndromes share some hemodynamic characteristics. In these cases, monitoring with Swan Ganz catheter may be useful to make the differential diagnosis. The main outcome was to analyze reperfusion syndrome and vasoplegic syndrome in patients receiving vasoactive support during liver transplant surgery, in terms of incidence, risk factors and postoperative complications.
To evaluate the Chinese herbal tea VGH-DESJS-1 in ocular and oral dryness symptoms of Dry eye syndrome and Sjögren's syndrome
This study may help to improve strength and body composition in females with PCOS. It will enhance ability of an overweight individual to perform functional tasks (i.e. daily living tasks or physical activity) to be physically active. This may facilitate the adoption of a more active lifestyle, thereby increasing the likelihood of success in overall weight-reduction strategies.
Thirty postmenopausal women were collected from outpatient clinic of faculty of physical therapy in Benha University to participate in this study. Their ages were ranged from 55-65 years old and their body mass index (BMI) ranged from 30 to 34.9 Kg/m2. They were divided randomly into 2 equal groups; Group A: received diet regimen, Group B: received diet regimen and treated with laser acupuncture for 30 minutes, 3 sessions per week for two months
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the effectiveness of supportive psychotherapy in post covid-19 syndrome patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. What is the effect of supportive psychotherapy on psychological and somatic symptoms in post covid-19 syndrome patients? 2. What is the effect of supportive psychotherapy on the neutrophil lymphocyte ratio in post covid-19 syndrome patients? 3. What is the effect of supportive psychotherapy on heart rate variability in post covid-19 syndrome patients? Participants will be given supportive psychotherapy in the form of an online group for 3 times a week with a duration of psychotherapy ranging from 1 - 2 hours per session. Researchers will compare the supportive psychotherapy group to education group as control. The control group will be given education about Post Covid-19 syndrome in the form of an online group for 3 times a week with a duration of around 1 - 2 hours per session.
