Filter by:This is a single dose, placebo-controlled study. Male subjects aged 18 to 40 years (inclusive) with a diagnosis of FXS. Eligible subjects may enroll in this study comprised of two in home and two in clinic visits each 14 days apart, for a total of four visits. Subjects will be given single dose gaboxadol (10 mg) or matched placebo at each of these visits to take orally. Thus, all enrolled subjects will receive placebo at home and in clinic and receive gaboxadol at home and in clinic in a blinded fashion.
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome is a potentially fatal iatrogenic condition. This syndrome is characterized by a sudden increase of the vascular permeability which results in the development of a massive extravascular exudate in the peritoneal cavity, pleural, pericardium causing ascites, pleural and pericardial effusion. Severe forms are also accompanied by electrolyte disturbances and cardiopulmonary, hepatic, renal, and hemoconcentration associated with increased thromboembolic risk. This syndrome is avoidable by the judicious use of gonadotropins and careful monitoring of stimulation regimens.
The goal of this clinical trial is to test cannabidiol in Sanfilippo syndrome. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1) determine the safety of cannabidiol in Sanfilippo syndrome, and 2) explore the efficacy of cannabidiol in treating the neurobehavioral symptoms and functional outcomes of Sanfilippo syndrome. Each participant's caregiver will be asked to complete surveys related to the participant's behavior, mood, sleep, stooling, pain, and caregiver stress intermittently throughout the study. All participants will be enrolled into one of two cohorts based on enrollment order: 1. Sentinel Safety Cohort (first 5 participants) - all participants treated with Epidiolex (cannabidiol) 2. Controlled Cohort (next 30 participants) - participants randomized 1:1 (equal chance) to start treatment with Epidiolex (cannabidiol) or placebo for 16 weeks, followed by an 8-week washout period (no treatment). Participants then switch to the opposite treatment group for 16 weeks followed by all participants treated for 52 weeks with Epidiolex (cannabidiol).
To handle daily life challenges, one needs to be psychologically resilient. It plays a crucial role in disease development, prognosis, as well as social, occupational, and community participation. Cardiovascular diseases cause physical and psychological stress, which can be linked to individual resilience and the development of such diseases. Stress can trigger TakoTsubo cardiomyopathy and acute coronary events. Individuals who have experienced TakoTsubo cardiomyopathy or an acute coronary event often feel stressed due to emotional or physical triggers. These triggers may include job loss or illness. In medical rehabilitation, therapists consider the individual circumstances of their patients when planning therapy. It may be important to add a special focus on psychological care, including building resilience, which could greatly benefit these individuals. Therefore, the study aims to investigate whether resilience training, as part of an inpatient multidisciplinary rehabilitation program, affects the individual resilience of rehabilitants with TakoTsubo cardiomyopathy or those who have experienced an acute coronary event.
The weaning failure is a paramount challenge when aggressive discontinuation of respiratory support in ARDS. The aim of the study is to improve weaning safety and efficacy by a transient postextubation non-invasive respiratory support.
Costello syndrome (CS) and cardio-facio cutaneous syndrome (CFCS) belongs to RASopathies, a group of multisystemic disorders caused by unregulated signalling through the RAS/MAPK pathway, an intracellular signalling pathway regulating multiple processes such as cellular proliferation, differentiation, survival, apoptosis and also contributing to oncogenesis. They share a recognizable facial appearance, aged appearance, growth delay, muscle-skeletal anomalies, heart defects, neuropsychological features, skin and ocular abnormalities, and cancer predisposition. Even though life expectancy of individuals with CS and CFCS has increased in the last years due to the improvement of patients' care and a more effective prevention of comorbidities, some of the most challenging aspects impacting on everyday living such as growth failure, accelerate senescence and skeletal-muscle defects, still need to be fully understood. This statement underlies the need to improve clinical research protocols with more innovative techniques (multi-omics profiling) in order to better understand the effect of RAS/MAPK pathway hyperactivations on different systems and to define possible personalized treatments.
The goal of this observational study is to understand the perspectives and needs of patients with genodermatoses and their partners who wish to have children, regarding their decision-making process and their consideration of reproductive options. Additionally, the investigators aim to investigate the level of knowledge and perspectives of healthcare professionals (such as clinical geneticists, dermatologists and other clinicians involved), and want to explore to what extent patients and their partners are well informed about these reproductive options. To achieve this, the investigators will conduct individual semi-structured qualitative interviews with participants affected by genodermatoses (and their partners) and with healthcare professionals.
The goal of this observational study is to learn about the indications for prenatal diagnostics and preimplantation genetic testing for patients/couples affected by an inherited skin disease, and evaluate the clinical outcomes of these reproductive options. By providing a complete overview, the investigators aim to improve reproductive counselling for these patients/couples with a desire to have children. To achieve this, the investigators aim to retrospectively collect data from a cohort of patiens/couples affected by an inherited skin disease on a national level (in the Netherlands) and also an international level from various countries in Europe.
This was a randomized controlled study. The infants enrolled were randomly divided into the IOE group (with Intermittent Oro-Esophageal Tube Feeding) and the PNG group (with Nasogastric Tube Feeding), all receiving systemic therapy. Before and after 4-week treatment, pulmonary infection, swallowing function, nutritional status and body weight between the two group were compared.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about on dysphagia in wallenberg syndrome. The main questions it aims to answer are: the efficacy of Virtual Reality Therapy in the rehabilitation of patients with dysphagia in Wallenberg syndrome. Participants received conventional dysphagia treatment and Virtual Reality Therapy once a day for 14 days. Researchers compared the control group to see the effect and mechanism of Virtual Reality Therapy.
