Effects of Corticorelin Administration on Dopamine Transmission, Craving, and Mood in Cocaine Dependence

Start date: June 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This study will, in a sample of cocaine-dependent and healthy control subjects, administer corticorelin and compare dopamine release between groups. Dopamine release will be measured using PET neuroimaging with the radiotracer [11C]-(+)-PHNO.

NCT ID: NCT01979133 Recruiting - Bipolar Disorder Clinical Trials

Study of Icariin for Bipolar Disorder and Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorders

Start date: October 2013
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This study is being done to see if icariin will help with depression in patients with bipolar disorder and alcohol or cocaine use disorders. The pills used in this study contain 20% icariin.

NCT ID: NCT01977092 Completed - Clinical trials for Alcohol and Drug Abuse

Reducing Offenders' HIV Risk: MI Enhanced Case Management With Drug-Free Housing

Start date: January 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of the study is to see if a Motivational Interviewing Case Management (MICM) intervention will improve outcomes for respondents who are on probation or parole, at risk for HIV and have recently entered a Sober Living House. The MICM will help respondents access needed services, adapt to their new living environment, find and maintain work, address HIV risk and treatment, and manage setbacks. The risk for HIV infection among criminal justice offenders is significant, as is the need for stable, drug free housing in this population. Our aim is to see if the MICM intervention in the context of drug free housing will improve health outcomes and reduce recidivism.

NCT ID: NCT01976702 Completed - Clinical trials for Substance Related Disorders

Multi-Level HIV Prevention for Pregnant Drug Abusers

PDA
Start date: October 2006
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This 5 year study, targeting Pregnant Drug Abusers in treatment, is a randomized trial of an Enhanced Behavioral Skills Training (E-BST) intervention compared to a time-and attention-matched Health Promotion Comparison (HPC) condition. E-BST is an adaptation of the original BST intervention (Eldridge, St. Lawrence et al., 1997), designed to strengthen relationship-based social competency skills of the original BST that were crucial in sustaining adherence to protective behavior.

NCT ID: NCT01969305 Completed - Drug Use Clinical Trials

Youth Drug Abuse Prevention in Kazakhstan

Start date: January 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This pilot study will adapt and test the feasibility and estimate the effect size parameters of Kazakhstani Family Together (KFT), a family-based multi-media intervention designed to reduce sexual and drug-related risks for HIV infection among at-risk 14-17 year old females and males living in communities highly affected by heroin trade and use in Almaty, Kazakhstan.

NCT ID: NCT01966432 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetes Mellitus, Type 2

Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment in Primary Care

SBIRT-PC
Start date: August 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This add-on study of providing tobacco, alcohol and other drug screening, brief intervention and referral for treatment to a primary care high risk diabetic population leverages the existing research resources of a funded parent project "Duke University CMS Innovation Award Southeastern Diabetes initiative (PI: Robert M. Califf, MD)" to explore the feasibility of implementing Screening for substance use, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment services in Primary Care (SBIRT-PC) and to examine the effects of substance use status on diabetes health care outcomes. This pilot study also examines the feasibility of the CTN's common data element algorithms of SBIRT for illicit and nonmedical drug use in the primary care setting.

NCT ID: NCT01964092 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

NCT ID: NCT01960036 Completed - Clinical trials for Substance Use Disorder

Body-oriented Therapy for Women in SUD Treatment

Start date: January 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The long-term objective of this study is to improve women's substance use disorder (SUD) treatment. The immediate project goal is to test the efficacy of an innovative mind-body intervention, Mindful Awareness in Body-Oriented Therapy (MABT) to reduce substance use relapse among women in SUD treatment. A novel mind-body approach, MABT combines a hands-on (manual) approach with mind-body psycho-education approaches of interoceptive training and mindfulness to develop somatically-based self-care skills and to facilitate emotion regulation. A three-group, randomized clinical trial using repeated measures, this project will enroll and randomize 225 women to one of three groups, MABT + Treatment-as-usual (TAU) (n=75), TAU only (n=75), and Women's Health Education (WHE) + TAU (to control for time and attention) (n=75). Study conditions will be compared at baseline, post-intervention, and at 6 and 12 month follow-up. The primary aim is to test the hypothesis that MABT will result in reduced substance use and related health outcomes compared to TAU and to WHE+ TAU at 12 month follow-up. The second aim is to examine hypothesized underlying mechanisms of MABT. Female outpatients in two diverse community treatment facilities, serving racially diverse patients, will be recruited for study participation. This study builds on promising preliminary evidence of MABT feasibility and acceptability in substance use disorder treatment for women, and addresses the need for more clinical research aimed at improving SUD treatment outcomes for women.
