Filter by:The goal of this intervention study is to test whether a behavioral program that involves people with stroke and their caregivers is acceptable, safe, and can promote physically active lifestyles using enjoyable activities. Participant duos (person with stroke and their caregiver) will be asked to complete assessments at 2 timepoints, wear an activity tracker, participate in 12 sessions with an occupational therapist, and complete an interview.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the accessibility of beauty products for individuals with upper extremity disabilities. By examining various factors such as packaging design, product applicators, and ease of use, this research aims to identify barriers faced by individuals with upper extremity disabilities or visual deficits when using beauty products. The study seeks to provide insights and recommendations for improving the accessibility of beauty products, ultimately promoting inclusivity and enhancing the overall beauty experience for individuals with disabilities.
People living with stroke have very low aerobic fitness, which can negatively impact brain health. Identifying the best exercise which includes exercise stimulus type (interval, continuous) or intensity, how hard to exercise (moderate, high) that benefit aerobic fitness, vascular health, and the brain's main blood vessels after stroke are unknown. This study is designed to determine the preliminary efficacy of high-volume HIIT to moderate intensity exercise using a seated stepper exercise device that allows the arms and legs to move back and forth.
Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating disease with high early mortality, unfavorable neurological outcomes, and high cost of care. To date, the role of DTI-guided minimally invasive hematoma evacuation in ICH is still uncertain. The investigators will conduct a multicenter randomized controlled trial, as well as a concurrent prospective observational study including all ICH patients who decline participation in the trial and will therefore receive minimally invasive hematoma evacuation or best medical therapy and consent to be followed up. All participants will be followed up at the same time using the same outcomes measures. The primary outcome will be collected by a blinded assessor.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of early rehabilitation treatment by electroencephalographic neurofeedback on upper limb motor function after stroke. Researchers will compare : Interventional group: electroencephalographic neurofeedback + traditional reference rehabilitation programme Control group: SHAM electroencephalographic neurofeedback + traditional reference rehabilitation programme
Upper limb motor impairment is one of the most common sequelae after stroke. Indeed, the recovery of upper limb sensory-motor functions remains one of the most important goals in stroke rehabilitation. In the last years, new approaches in neurorehabilitation field has been investigated to enhance motor recovery. The use of wearable devices combined with surface electromyography (i.e. sEMG) electrodes allows to detect patients muscle activation during motor performance. Moreover, sEMG is used to provide to the patients the biofeedback about their muscle activity during exercises execution to enhance motor control and motor recovery. The aim of the study is to define the efficacy of using REMO® (Morecognition srl, Turin,Italy) for hand motor recovery after stroke. A randomised-controlled trial will be conducted compared to a task-oriented training, in hand motor rehabilitation after stroke. 28 patients with diagnosis of first stroke event will be enrolled in this study. After randomization process, participants will be allocated in Experimental Group (REMO training) or in Control Group (task-oriented training). The participants will be assessed before and after the treatment and sEMG will be collected during 12 hand movements. The treatment will consist of 15 sessions (1h/day, 5day/week, 3 weeks). Finally, the sEMG of the same 12 hand movements will be collected from 15 healthy subjects to compare muscle activation with a normal reference model.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of CVA-FLOW, a digital health AI based Telestroke system developed by CVAID Ltd. Company aims to assist certified medical staff to triage acute ischemic stroke patients using dedicated algorithms in order to support application for market approval for CVA-FLOW device.
This study will determine the acceptability of delivering seated exercises online and if seated exercises can improve balance, mobility, quality of life, and cardiometabolic health in those living with a stroke related mobility impairment. Participants will be allocated to either a 10-week seated exercise program or a delayed 2-week Boot Camp program. All seated exercises sessions and assessments will be conducted virtually.
Stroke survivors frequently suffer disabilities including motor and cognitive problems, impairments in speech and vision, depression, and several other disabilities that worsen their quality of life. Some will recover fully after stroke and others will have permanent impairments. Few studies show trajectories of recovery in different domains after stroke, hence recovery time-lines are not fully known. Also, the whole range of mechanisms leading to recovery are not precisely known (1). To monitor those mechanisms one can utilize biomarkers. In parallel to the studies of recovery, studies on time series of biomarkers after stroke are limited (2). Hence, a crucial first step to increase knowledge on biomarkers of stroke recovery is to gain a better understanding of the time course of both stroke recovery and biomarker patterns. Biomarkers can later be used for outcome predictions after stroke.
The Bio-Repository of DNA in Stroke (BRAINS) recruits all subtypes of stroke as well as controls from two different continents, Europe and Asia. Subjects recruited from the United Kingdom (UK) will include stroke patients of European ancestry as well as British South Asians. Stroke subjects from South Asia will be recruited from India and Sri Lanka. Subjects are also recruited in Qatar. South Asian cases will also have control subjects recruited.
