Improving Spine Surgical Care With Real-Time Objective Patient Tracking Using the Apple Watch

One of the primary goals of spine surgery is to reduce pain and increase mobility to improve patients' quality of life. Currently, there is no established method for surgeons to objectively track their patients' mobilization postoperatively. This study is the first prospective trial utilizing the Apple Watch to objectively track patients before and after elective spine surgery. The investigators hypothesize that the ability of patients to track their own activity and discuss with their surgeon objective mobilization goals will not only help patients achieve empowerment in their own care but also improve their overall satisfaction and self-reported outcomes after spine surgery.

The MOTION Study - Treatment of LSS With the MILD Procedure

Prospective, multicenter, randomized controlled clinical study examining functional improvement in lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) patients with neurogenic claudication who are treated with the MILD procedure plus conventional medical management (CMM) compared to those treated with CMM alone, as the control. Subjects in the control group are able to crossover and receive MILD after completion of 12-month follow-up. The study will provide objective functional improvement data for patients treated with the mild Procedure as first-line therapy in a real-world setting.

The NORDSTEN- OS(Observational study) aim to study the natural course in patients with mild to moderate symptomatic lumbar spinal stenosis with and without degenerative spondylolisthesis. 10 years follow-up is planned. The NORDSTEN-OS is one of three studies in The NORwegian Degenerative Spondylolisthesis and Spinal STENosis studies. The two other studies are: NORDSTEN-SST (Spinal stenosis trial) (NCT02007083); a randomized controlled trial comparing the clinical and radiological results in three different decompression techniques in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis. The NORDSTEN-DS (Degenerative spondylolisthesis) (NCT02051374); a randomized controlled trial comparing the outcome of surgery with decompression without fixation and decompression with fixation in patients with lumbar spinal stenosis and concurrent degenerative spondylolisthesis.

The LimiFlex™ Clinical Trial is a prospective, concurrently controlled, multi-center study to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of decompression and stabilization with the Empirical Spine LimiFlex™ Paraspinous Tension Band compared to decompression and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion (TLIF) with concomitant posterolateral fusion (PLF) for the treatment of lumbar degenerative spondylolisthesis (Grade I per Meyerding classification) with spinal stenosis. To measure ligamentum flavum thickness in patients with different nationalities, sexes, heights, ages, and weights from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China with CT, explore the correlation between various factors and ligamentum flavum thickness, provide reference for pedicle screw placement and lumbar decompression surgery, develop individualized surgical programs, and can effectively reduce the incidence of unnecessary postoperative complications induced by misplacement.
