Filter by:The purpose of this investigation is to is to examine if self-weighing with feedback, in which the feedback is matched to the timeframe of self-weighing, in the absence of a standard behavioral intervention assists with the self-regulation of energy balance behaviors among young adults. Participants will be randomized to one of three groups: 1) daily weighing; 2) weekly weighing; 3) no weighing for 4 weeks.
The aim of this study is, first, to describe the evolution of the caloric compensation ability in infants from 3 to 15 months old and, secondly, to assess the links between changes in the caloric compensation ability and the individual characteristics (adiposity, age, gender, infant's eating behavior) and maternal feeding practices. Three series of measurements of caloric compensation abitlity were conducted: at 3-4 months old, at 10.5 months old and at 14.5 months old in the laboratory. In this study, a preload paradigm usually employed in children and adults to measure the caloric compensation ability was adapted to infants below 15 months old. The maternal eating behavior and their feeding practices were measured by questionnaires. The infants' height and weight were measured at the laboratory by trained experimenters.
The purpose of this study is to develop and pilot test a new type of patient-centered, family-based treatment for children aged 8-12 with obesity and their caregivers. The treatment will focus specifically on improving children's self-regulation (SR) skills to help them better manage their feelings, behaviors, and thoughts to help them live a healthier lifestyle.
This study will evaluate the extent to which we can engage and manipulate putative targets within the self-regulation domain outside of laboratory settings in samples of smokers and overweight/obese individuals with binge eating disorder. Fifty smokers and 50 overweight/obese individuals with binge eating disorder will be recruited to participate in a non-lab experimental paradigm in which we will leverage our novel mobile behavioral assessment/intervention technology platform. We will measure and modulate engagement of potential self-regulation targets and collect data in real time and in real-world conditions. Mobile sensing will be added to up to 50 additional participants.
The goal of this project is to measure childhood self-regulation targets known to be associated with obesity risk and poor adherence to medical regimens and to assess whether intervening on these mechanisms can improve self-regulation. The investigators will do so in a pre-existing cohort of low-income school-age children.
Understanding Daily Fluctuations in Self-Regulation, also known as the Digital Marshmallow Test (DMT), is a collaboration by Northwell Health, Cornell Tech, and Sage Bionetworks. Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, this is a pioneering study to advance the science in identifying and helping individuals who act on short-term temptations, despite long-term consequences. Using Apple's ResearchKit(™) and Android's ResearchStack applications, the Digital Marshmallow Test will leverage the powerful capabilities of the smartphone to examine impulsivity using a range of game-like tasks and sensor capabilities within the mobile phone. Across studies, more impulsive individuals are significantly more likely to suffer from obesity, Type II Diabetes, substance abuse, gambling problems, suicidal behaviors, and increased criminality among many other problems. Early self-report studies reveal a relationship between the inability to delay gratification and different patterns of mobile phone use. This will be the first study to develop non-invasive mobile methods to identify and help those at greatest risk for impulsive responding before serious problems occur.
Fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) describes a collection of physical, mental, and behavioral disabilities that result from prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE). Individuals with FASD often struggle with self-regulation, or the ability to control thoughts, emotions and actions, which can lead to many long-term problematic life circumstances. This study aims to improve self-regulation abilities in adolescents, aged 11-17, with FASD using a targeted intervention. Researchers adapted the Alert Program®, a developed intervention targeting self-regulation in children, to be appropriate for an adolescent FASD population. Participants are split into two groups: an FASD intervention group, and an FASD waitlist group. These groups are compared on a variety of measures. These measures include cognitive measures (executive functioning, response conflict, inhibitory control, etc), behavioural measures (self-regulation, adaptive behaviour, etc), and physiological measures (cortisol and sleep). The FASD intervention group will be tested at baseline and once after the intervention, and lastly after an approximately 12-week wait following the intervention. The FASD waitlist group will be tested at baseline, after a three month wait period, and again after receiving the intervention. The investigators expect that the Alert program® will lead to significant improvements in participant's self-regulation abilities as evidenced by cognitive, behavioural, and physiological changes. Improving self-regulation in adolescents with FASD will reduce the high level of adverse outcomes experienced by adolescents with FASD, and help them have a successful transition into adulthood.
The aim of this trial is to test a novel network approach (Bringmann et al., 2013), which enables to investigate the complex, interdependent network of self-control and its influences in everyday life. By adding an intervention to the network, such as mindfulness training, it is also possible to explore the way mindfulness changes connection strengths between network variables. For six weeks, an ambulatory assessment and additional seven weekly laboratory sessions are conducted with 120 students from the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz who are randomized to a control (n=60) or intervention condition (n=60). Pre and post measurement sessions take place to assess self-reported trait self-control and mindfulness and a behavioral measure of mindfulness (Levinson, Stoll, Kindy, Merry & Davidson 2014). Participants of both the experimental and control condition come to five weekly lab meetings in which they fill out questionnaires to assess changes in self-reported self-control and mindfulness. But only participants of the experimental condition take part in weekly computer based mindfulness trainings. During the ambulatory assessment, participants complete questionnaires six times a day via mobile phones that are randomly prompted and answer questions about state self-control, motivation, affect, and current situation.
The purpose of this project is to study whether a mindfulness-based training program supports self-regulation, resiliency, effective classroom behaviors, and persistence in teaching.
The investigators have developed an eHealth intervention based on self-regulation for the promotion of self-regulation of physical activity and fruit and vegetable intake among adults who visit general practice. Effectiveness of the intervention will be evaluated in a three-arm clustered quasi-experimental design in general practice.
