Early Warning of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy by Using Infrared Thermography and the Effectiveness of Electroacupuncture in Its Prevention

Part Ⅰ:Infrared thermograms of four parts of the soles of the feet, dorsum of the feet, palms of the hands, and dorsum of the hands of healthy volunteers, diabetic patients, and patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy were collected by using infrared thermography, and the patterns of change in the average temperatures of the parts of the participants in the three groups were analysed and compared by using the accompanying software. Part Ⅱ: Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) mainly presents with symmetrical pain,numbness, and ankylosing sensation, but reversal after diagnosis is particularly difficult. Electroacupuncture can significantly improve the function of peripheral nerves, regulate local blood flow, and reduce the inflammatory response to promote nerve regeneration, but no study has shown that electroacupuncture can effectively prevent the occurrence of DPN. Therefore, it is of great research significance to determine whether electroacupuncture has the possibility in preventing the occurrence of DPN.

Long Term Efficacy and Tolerability of AP707 in Patients With Chronic Pain Due to Traumatic or Post-operative Peripheral Neuropathy

Over the last years a rising medical need for treatment of chronic pain was identified. Based on previous findings indicating the pain modulating effects of cannabinoids in chronic pain disorders, this clinical trial investigates the long term efficacy and tolerability of the THC-focused nano endocannabinoid system modulator AP707 in patients with chronic pain disorders due to traumatic or post-operative peripheral neuropathy. Patients receive AP707 or placebo over the course of 14 weeks as an add-on to the standard of care. Changes in pain intensity, quality of life and sleep and others measures are monitored through different scales to assess the efficacy of AP707 in patients with chronic pain due to traumatic or post-operative peripheral neuropathy.

The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the effect of Self-Thai Foot Massage on type 2 diabetes peripheral neuropathy. The main question is to answer the role of massage in the improvement of peripheral neuropathy. Participants will be taught to perform the Self-Thai Foot Massage every alternate day for 15 days. Researchers will compare the intervention group with the control group (without intervention) to see the improvement in Somatosensory Reception, Range of Motion, and peripheral neuropathy-induced Pain.

The Effect of Hand-Foot Exercises on Platinum-Based Chemotheraphy Induced Peripheral Neuropathy Related Pain Severity, Falls and Quality of Life in Colorectal Cancer

Colorectal cancer is the 4th most common cancer in the world among all cancer types. Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is a common and serious side effect caused by chemotherapeutic agents, especially platinum analogues, taxanes, vinca alkaloids and bortezomib. The most commonly used chemotherapeutic agents in the treatment of colorectal cancers are platinum analogues It is known that oxaliplatin, one of the platinum analogues, causes 85-96% of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The most common symptoms of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy are; numbness, paresthesia, dysesthesia, pain, hypersensitivity to cold or heat, tingling, muscle cramps, distal weakness, gait disturbances, balance disorders, and impaired movement. Oxaliplatin, which is frequently used in the treatment of colorectal cancer, causes symptoms of both acute and chronic chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. There is no proven method in the treatment of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. However, various pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches are applied in its preventive and symptomatic treatment. Exercise and physical therapy interventions; It is stated that it improves strength, balance and other functional disorders in patients, reduces symptoms, and reduces the risk of falling by affecting gross motor dysfunctions such as balance and gait abnormalities. However, the limitations of studies on this subject in the literature draw attention. This situation suggests that new methods that can be applied in the care of cancer patients who develop peripheral neuropathy due to chemotherapy should be developed in the field of nursing. This research is the first study to evaluate the effect of hand-foot exercises on colorectal cancer patients who developed peripheral neuropathy due to platinum-based therapy. Research results; Alleviation of KBPN-induced pain and prevention of falls are important in terms of increasing the quality of life of patients and providing evidence for nursing practices by using it as a new method that can be applied in the care of cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of hand-foot exercises on the severity of pain, falls and quality of life associated with platinum-based therapy-related peripheral neuropathy in patients with colorectal cancer.
