A Randomized Controlled Study on Acupuncture for Perioperative Pain After Open Radical Prostatectomy
Acupuncture has been shown in several meta-analyses and clinical studies, in different surgical settings and chronic back pain, to be a safe adjuvant option for postoperative pain treatment. In this study, the investigator hypothesize that acupuncture can decrease postoperative pain intensity and amount of given analgesics, and accelerate recovery of bowel motility, in patients after open radical prostatectomy. The investigator will also investigate whether or not acupuncture with needle skin penetration is more efficacious than acupressure.

Randomized Controlled Trial of the Use of Acupuncture and Cupping in Patients Awaiting Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) Due to Knee Osteoarthritis
Given the lack of studies in the literature associating the use of acupuncture and sliding suction cup in patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis, the objective of this study is to evaluate the benefits of this association in patients of the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology outpatient clinic of the University of São Paulo while awaiting surgical treatment of knee osteoarthritis as a method of pain relief, limb function improvement and quality of life.

Acupuncture for Adults With Sickle Cell Disease (SCD): A Feasibility Study
The investigators long-term goal is to demonstrate the effectiveness of acupuncture for the treatment of adults with chronic pain due to sickle cell disease (SCD), a debilitating pain syndrome characterized by acute and chronic pain. The objective of this study is to explore the feasibility and acceptability of acupuncture with adult patients with SCD. All participants will receive acupuncture treatments twice per week for 5 weeks. Subjects will complete measures at baseline and post-treatment, and a measure of study acceptability at post-treatment. The investigators will describe the procedures and potential challenges to implementing the acupuncture protocol, and expect to identify and rectify any procedural problems that subjects report regarding the 10-session study protocol.

The Effect of Acupuncture for Insomnia in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy: A Randomized, Sham-Controlled Trial
The proposed study is a randomized, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, subject- and assessor-blind trial. It is designed according to CONSORT and STRICTA recommendations. The 138 subjects will be randomly assigned to one of the two arms using block randomization in a 1:1 ratio: (I) acupuncture treatment, and (II) sham treatment. In groups (I) and (II), acupuncture or sham acupuncture treatment will be given twice a week for 6 weeks (12 sessions). A maintenance tapering treatment schedule will then be applied once per month for 3 months (3 sessions). The primary outcome will be improvement in sleep quality as measured by the change of ISI after 6 weeks of treatment. Secondary outcome assessment tools will include PSQI, HADS, BPI, BFI, FACT-B, sleep diaries, drug diaries, blinding success questionnaire and reports of adverse events. The subjects will be scheduled for on-site follow-up assessments at 3 and 6 months after the last treatment. An intention to treat (ITT) approach will be used for data analysis.

Acupuncture vs. Standard Therapy for Treatment of Postoperative Pain in Patients Scheduled for Arthroscopic Knee Surgery - a Pilot Non-randomized Controlled Trial
Aim of the study: To investigate whether acupuncture with indwelling fixed needles reduces pain and analgesic requirement and foster mobilization in patients after arthroscopic knee surgery (AKS) Design: Prospective pilot investigation with non-randomized arm Number of patients: N = 60 (30 patients with acupuncture additional to standard pain treatment (SPT) vs. 30 patients with SPT only Inclusion criteria: Adult patients scheduled to elective AKS in general anaesthesia with < 80 min. duration Without previous opioid and psychotropic medication Given informed consentOutcome measures: Postoperative analgesic requirement; Pain intensity; Incidence of side effects; Physiological parameters; Mobilization score

Akasaray University
Objective: This study aimed to investigate the effect, onset and duration of action, and short-term outcomes of acupuncture therapy in the treatment of patients with severe chronic subjective tinnitus. Methods: This study is a randomized, controlled trial evaluating patients with chronic, idiopathic and severe tinnitus. A total of 105 participants were divided into two groups using the randomization method: the study group that received real acupuncture therapy (n = 53) and the sham acupuncture group. Ten acupuncture sessions were applied over five weeks. After treatment, each participant was monitored for up to three months according to the changes in the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Pure-Tone Audiometry and Speech Discrimination scores.
