Acupuncture for Headache Post-Traumatic Brain Injury: A Feasibility Study
This study evaluates and addresses challenges to implementing an acupuncture intervention for adults who have headaches after sustaining a moderate traumatic brain injury. Eligible participants will be recruited from Seattle and the surrounding areas to receive weekly acupuncture for 12 consecutive weeks. Participants will complete questionnaires to assess headache impact, depression, health-related quality of life, and cognitive function at the beginning of the study and every two weeks for the duration of the study. Participants will participate in structured interviews after the study for their views on the acceptability and tolerability of the study protocol.

Acute Salivary Flow Rate Response to Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation Versus Electro-acupuncture
Between available therapies for dry mouth is electrostimulation. Using an extra-oral device like TENS - which result in a statistically significant - increases the quantity of whole salivary flow rate production in xerostomia patients. The use of acupuncture as an alternative treatment modality for xerostomia has been documented in the Western medical field since the 1980s. Observational studies have demonstrated that acupuncture treatment may increase salivary flow in healthy volunteers.

Clinical Efficacy of Acupuncture in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Disorders(TMD)
This is a single-blinded, randomized controlled trial to explore the effectiveness of acupuncture in the treatment of the pain due to TMD using the latest diagnostic criteria combined with subjective and objective indexes.

Self-Administration of Auricular Acupuncture Pilot Project
Veterans who have responded well to Battlefield Acupuncture (BFA), a form of auricular acupuncture, in routine clinical practice will be invited to receive education to insert the needles themselves at home. A 3D-printed wearable prosthetic will also be explored as a means to facilitate needle placement. Primary end-points will include whether adverse events occur over a six-month period and whether the aforementioned prosthesis significantly facilitates needle placement in terms of subjective ease of administration.

Combined Effect of Laser Acupuncture and ElectroAcupuncture in Knee Osteoarthritis Patients: a Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is a common degenerative joint disorder affected 250 million people globally. It can not only result in disability, but also associated with cardiovascular disease and mortality. The most common treatment for KOA is non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. However, the effect of analgesic is limited and may complicate with side effect. Hence, many patients search for complementary and alternative medicine. Acupuncture is one of the most popular complementary treatment with good analgesic effect and less side effect. Electroacupuncture (EA) or laser acupuncture (LA) was reported effective in pain control in knee osteoarthritis patients. However, there is no study about combination effect of EA and LA. Methods: This protocol is a randomized controlled trial investigating the combination effect of EA and LA on KOA. Fifty participants diagnosed KOA with aged more than 50 years old and knee pain more than 3 months were recruited and randomly assigned to the experimental group (EA plus LA) or sham group (EA plus LA without laser output) in clinical research center. The subjects will undergo EA plus LA treatment thrice a weeks for 4 weeks. The experimental group will receive acupuncture at GB33, GB34, SP9, SP10, and ST36 with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator on the GB34+33 and SP9+10., and the LA deliver 6 Joule of energy at EX-LE5, ST35, and BL40. The subjects in sham group will receive the same way but the LA is without any laser output. Outcome measurement will include visual analogue scale (VAS), Western Ontario McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), Knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome (KOOS), body composition analysis, knee range of motion test, muscle stiffness test, standing on one foot test, and the 30-second chair stand test before intervention and after 4 weeks intervention. The result will be analyze and compared between the experimental group and sham group using the paired t test and one-way analysis of variance. Objectives: The aim of this protocol is to investigate the combination effect of EA and LA in KOA patients.

The Comparison of Efficacy of Manual Acupuncture and Laser Acupuncture on Autonomic Nervous Activity and Quality of Life in Women With Dysmenorrhea.
Integrative medicine raises public's attention due to either mainstream or traditional medicine has its limitation. The topic "dysmenorrhea", with prevalence up to 50%, troubled many females with symptom as depression, reduced the quality of life; and even withdraw from daily activity. Clinically, gynecologists apply analgesic such as Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs, and oral contraceptive pills or progestin as conventional therapy. As NSAIDs cause gastrointestinal discomfort, while hormone therapy leads to other concerns; some women now adopt acupuncture as an alternative therapy for its safety. Furthermore, laser acupuncture has been practiced in recent years for it integrates the meridian theory and laser therapy; hence there are also some positive research in academic field.Whether laser or traditional acupuncture is more effective is still under debate. Additionally, investigators had published that the theory of yin/yang (meridian) is compatible with autonomic nerve theory. As many women with dysmenorrhea suffered from insomnia, anxiety, convulsion of the uterine muscle, which are related to autonomic nerve dysfunction, investigators are intrigued to know whether the effect of acupuncture is related to adjusting autonomic nerve system. Investigators intend to investigate the efficacy of laser and manual acupuncture in dysmenorrhea, and whether their mechanism is germane to hormone alternation or autonomic nervous system adjustment. The points in this proposal are 1.evaluate the efficacy of manual/laser acupuncture in dysmenorrhea in respects of symptoms and quality of life 2. compare whether these types acupuncture will alter the prostaglandin or hormone and the relationship between with the efficacy. 3. evaluate whether the mechanism of manual and laser acupuncture is relevant to alternating the autonomic nerve activity and if not correspond to Yin-Yang theory.
