Acupuncture for Prophylaxis of Vestibular Migraine

The Efficacy and Safety of Acupuncture for Prophylaxis of Vestibular Migraine

With its high incidence rate and low diagnosis rate, vestibular migraine (VM) can seriously affect patients' quality of life. Current treatment of VM mainly contain rescue treatment and prophylaxis, both of which are often pharmacological-based therapies and bring a series of unavoidable side effects, which leads to poor compliance of patients. Moreover, frequent VM attacks can seriously affect patients' daily life and work. Therefore, prophylaxis treatment is of great significance for VM patients. As a non-pharmarceutical therapy, acupuncture is widely used for a wide range of migrainous and emotional disorders. Thus, it might be an alternative treatment for VM, but current evidence remains inconclusive. The aim of this randomized controlled trial is to investigate the prophylactic efficacy and safety of acupuncture therapy in patients with VM.

Combined Scalp and Ear Acupuncture in Patients With Proton Pump Inhibitor- Dependent Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

Combined Scalp and Ear Acupuncture in Patients With Proton Pump Inhibitor- Dependent Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease

According to the statistics of the National Health Insurance Administration Ministry of Health and Welfare, the number of patients about gastroesophageal reflux disease has increased from 610,000 to over 760,000 in the past three years (2016-2018). Western medicine mainly uses proton pump inhibitors to improve symptoms. For patients who are ineffective in drug treatment, it will be treated by surgical treatment (Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication, endoluminal gastroplication).

Auricular Acupuncture as an add-on Treatment for Symptoms of Anxiety

Auricular Acupuncture as an add-on Treatment for Symptoms of Anxiety Within Affective Out-patient Care

Mental illness is very common in todays' society, and it is the most common cause for sick leave in Sweden. Affective diseases, such as different states of anxiety and depression, are the two most common conditions of mental illness that has been reported by different workplaces in Sweden. Pharmacological treatment of anxiety using benzodiazepines, tends to be long, and it may lead to substance dependence, as well as severe side effects such as increased anxiety levels, cognitive impact and psychomotor effects. The Swedish Council on Health Technology Assessment (SBU) have identified that there are scientific knowledge gaps that needs to be filled regarding the mental illness care, such as anxiety. There is a need for evaluations of non-pharmacological, complementary treatments as well as research with a high methodological quality. Acupuncture is a nonpharmacological treatment method based on complementary medicine, for which interest has increased over the last years. It has, to some extent, been introduced in the ordinary health care system. Auricular acupuncture (AA) is a branch of acupuncture where needles are inserted in different areas in the outer ears AA has been used to treat anxiety as well as vid depression and post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) among veterans. A standardised insertion pattern, defined as the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) protocol, is normally practised, and it has also been used to treat insomnia. Evaluations has shown that AA according to the NADA-protocol has a calming effect and seem to alleviate symptoms of anxiety, depression and to some extent, also sleeping difficulties. The aim of this study is to study and evaluate effects of AA as an add-on treatment to treatment as usual (TaU) within affective outpatient care for patients suffering from symptoms of anxiety and depression. A prospective, non-inferiority randomised controlled study (RCT) with a number of (N=72) participants will be conducted to answer the study aims. A qualitative interview study will also be conducted to find out how the patients experience AA as an adjunctive therapy.

Study the Effect of Acupuncture on Migraine Patient Without Aura Via Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Dongzhimen Hospital Affiliated to Beijing University of Chinese Medicine

This study recruits 30 subjects into three groups, including two experimental groups and one control group. The two experimental groups receive acupuncture treatment for 4 weeks and two times functional magnetic resonance imaging scans as well as clinical symptom assessments. The control group receive one scan without any intervention. The aim of this study is to find the whether the effect of acupuncture treatment have diversity among migraineurs with different disease course.

Battlefield Acupuncture and Its Use In Multimodal Perioperative Anesthesia Care - BFA

Battlefield Acupuncture and Its Use In Multimodal Perioperative Anesthesia Care

The study hypothesis is that perioperative Auricular (battlefield) acupuncture for general surgery and urology cases undergoing general anesthesia will decrease opioid requirements, postoperative pain, the incidence of PONV, and the incidence of perioperative anxiety in comparison to simulated (placebo) perioperative battlefield acupuncture.

Correction of Breech Presentation With Laser Acupuncture

Correction of Breech Presentation With Laser Acupuncture: a Randomized Controlled Trial

Acupuncture-type interventions (such as moxibustion and acupuncture) at Bladder 67 (BL67, Zhiyin point) have been proposed to have positive effects on breech presentation. However, the role of laser acupuncture for Breech presentation remains unknown. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of laser acupuncture in correcting breech presentation.

The Efficacy of Acupuncture as a Complementary Treatment for Pain and Anxiety After Breast Cancer Surgery

The Efficacy of Acupuncture as a Complementary Treatment for Pain and Anxiety After Breast Cancer Surgery: Pragmatic Randomized Control Trial

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most prevalent cancers worldwide. Fortunately, survival has improved in recent years thanks to its early detection and curative treatments such as mastectomy. However, this medical procedure is associated with a range of unwanted effects such as postoperative pain and anxiety. Some studies have reported that acupuncture could be an effective treatment to control these types of symptoms, although only few studies have been conducted on women undergoing mastectomy. Methods: This is a pragmatic randomized controlled trial with blind assessors. The study will be conducted in the Breast Unit of Hospital Universitario Sagrado Corazon of Barcelona (Spain). A sample of 40 women will be recruited and randomized to receive acupuncture treatment in addition to standard care procedures, or standard care procedures alone. The main outcome, pain, will be assessed after the surgical intervention and 4, 10 and 30 days later using the numerical rating scale. Secondary outcomes include anxiety, use of analgesics, nausea, adverse effects, and surgical complications. Discussion: Acupuncture is a low-cost non-pharmacological strategy. This study will help to clarify its possible role in controlling post-mastectomy adverse effects.
