Prevention-Related Lymphatic Response to Resistance Exercise in Breast Cancer Survivors at Risk of Breast Cancer-Related Lymphedema

The objective of this study is 1) to study the acute and chronic effect of resistance therapeutic physical exercise (RTPE) in the prevention of breast cancer-related lymphedema (BCRL) in breast cancer survivors at risk using variables related to the lymphatic response; 2) Study the possible relationship between changes in body composition at a local and regional level and volume changes produced by RTPE in patients at risk of suffering from BCRL.

Contribution of Oncogenetics in Breast Cancer in Reunion Epidemiology of Breast Cancer in Reunion: Study of the Reunion Mutation on BRCA2

In mainland France, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with an estimated incidence of over 58,000 new cases. Even if breast cancer is a cancer with a good prognosis, it is responsible for more than 12,000 deaths per year (first cause of death by cancer in women in France). Breast cancer is a multifactorial disease, which results from the interaction between environmental, lifestyle, hormonal and genetic risk factors. In Reunion, more than 400 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed annually. As in mainland France, it is by far the most common cancer in Reunionese women, and its incidence continues to increase significantly since the age-standardized incidence rate increased by 28% between 2007 and 2017 to establish at 64.2/100,000 AP. Two studies carried out in patients carrying mutations in the breast-ovary predisposition genes in Reunion, showed that more than 50% of patients carrying BRCA mutation have a mutation specific to the Reunion population on the BRCA2 gene. These two studies, which confirm the genetic specificities of Reunion already described in other pathologies (Mucoviscidosis or Friedreich's Ataxia), suggest that this mutation could have a significant frequency in patients with breast cancer. Thus, evaluating the prevalence of this mutation in patients with breast cancer in Réunion would make it possible to adapt the indications for access to the oncogenetics consultation and the associated preventive measures

Theory-based Training to Promote Breast Cancer Screening Among Women With Breast Cancer Worries: Randomized Controlled Trial

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer worries are important determinants in relation to behavior favoring breast cancer screening. OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of theory-based training to promote breast cancer screening among women with high and low levels of breast cancer worries. DESIGN AND SETTING: Randomized controlled trial, conducted in two family health centers. METHODS: In total, 285 women were recruited. Women with low levels of breast cancer worries were included in the first intervention group (112 women) and the first control group (112 women), while women with high levels of breast cancer worries were included in the second intervention group (37 women) and the second control group (43 women). Theory-based training to promote breast cancer screening was given to intervention groups. The women's willingness to undergo breast cancer screening and breast cancer worry scores were evaluated at 1, 3 and 6 months.

A Prospective Study to Assess Both Thyroid Abnormity Incidence In Chinese Women With Newly Diagnosed Breast Cancer and Thyroid Toxicity of Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Chemotherapy

Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in China. Even though advances in the field of breast cancer therapeutics, chemotherapy remains the mainstay therapeutic modality. The cytotoxic therapies are generally associated with some immediate or otherwise delayed side effects, such as adverse effects on gastrointestinal, hepatic, renal and hematological systems. The effect of chemotherapy on endocrine system, however, is comparatively less envisaged. Several epidemiological studies show a positive association between plasma thyroid hormones levels and breast cancer risk. Thyroid dysfunction is emerging as a variably common endocrine toxicity of several anticancer drugs. Due to the scarcity of data on the functioning of thyroid gland during chemotherapy in a large scale group, the present study was aimed to investigate the incidence of thyroid abnormity in Chinese women with newly diagnosed breast cancer, and also the effects of chemotherapy on thyroid gland functions or structure in these breast cancer patients undergoing at least four cycles of chemotherapy.

The purpose of this randomized controlled trial (RCT) is to evaluate a decision support website (RealRisks) designed to inform patients about breast cancer prevention options. It is coupled with a physician-centered (BNAV) decision support website as part of clinical workflow in the primary care setting. The investigators hypothesize that improving accuracy of breast cancer risk perception and understanding of the risks and benefits of breast cancer risk lowering drugs, also known as chemoprevention, will increase the uptake of chemoprevention in the primary care setting.

Lapatinib Ditosylate and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Locally Advanced or Locally Recurrent Breast Cancer

Phase II Study to Investigate Concurrent Lapatinib and Radiotherapy in Locally Advanced or Locally Recurrent Breast Cancer and the Impact on Breast Cancer Stem Cells

This phase II trial studies how well lapatinib ditosylate and radiation therapy work in treating patients with locally advanced or locally recurrent breast cancer. Lapatinib ditosylate may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Radiation therapy uses high energy x rays to kill tumor cells. Giving lapatinib ditosylate together with radiation therapy may be an effective treatment for breast cancer.
